I have 2 rx570 with this simptom. I was suspecting the PCI express wasn't working, this is a good place to start from on my next break from covid fighting as a technician inside this hospital. Hope & illusion is what pushes the world ahead. Thanks! I'll try to post as soon as I can disassemble those cards and check this.
Unbelievable this actually worked!!! I had an Asus RX580 that would reliably fail 20 minutes after power up. I removed heat sink and fan assembly, cleaned off heat transfer grease from GPU, then heated the board up with my heat gun. I slowly heated the whole board to about 170c then heated the vram chips and GPU to between 187-200c for about five minutes. I used an infrared thermometer to monitor temperatures. After letting it cool I applied fresh grease re-assembled and powered up. I have been running GPU benchmarks for 2hrs and board is working perfectly. Thanks!
BIG FAN BRO. You definitely know what you are doing. Could you please make a video showing the rest of us the basic procedures of diagnosing and how to identify which components/circuits to test (i.e.drivers,fuses,etc etc. )and acceptable ranges
"sorry for the voice - it's 3 am". Do I understand you, my friend? The best things I do they start from 10.30 - 11 pm, then they usually dive deep in to the night...
Can tell from start this is a pro at work. I checked your location and it shows you are in United States. How unlucky for me, coz i got 2 brand new RX 570 and RX 580 that simply refuse to work and i bet you could fix em in a blink of an eye.
Hey Eli, all we know you stopped to do repair gpu vid etc...etc...., but I ask and hope all is fine. Thank you anyway for all this work and the fixing vid tricks we all can find in your channel. I really hope you're fine, all the best for you and your family. Daniel from Italy.
Hi Eli, I'm from germany and was looking for a video about repairing a RX570/580. My 570 died last week and I wondered if you could have a look? I like the idea of things beeing repaired and not thrown away even if it is economically nonsense. I would like to send you my card, if is not repairable I glady would like to give it to you for your "substitution needs". Great video btw, I really admire your profound knowledge of electronics ;-) Best wishes ...retox
I wish you would show more of what you are doing. You say we have 12 volts and the board is not in position to allow us to see what you are touching and how you decided that was the point to touch. You say you are checking the phases. How and where are you checking and what would tell you it was good and what says it is bad. How, where, and why do you check that. Thanks for the video.
I am half blind and stuck my pci express 1x riser adapter in wrong and i think it blew a pci express driver NO Fan NO LIGHT SAME THING . The first quesiton people ask is how ??? its slotted. weel the 1x mining adapters can be flipped are you can put it to far and put the back pice in the front part of hte slot and leave the front part over hanging not plugged into anything (exactly what i had done). So how much was the thingy you replaced? Can i send you my card an you look at hit how much to repair?
Hi Eli, Excellent video I'm sure your teaching alot of people who have the skill to try what your doing in your channel and yes i do believe you should have more view since many people can learn a thing or two from your skills, now I'm such a fan of all your videos posted from time ago! BUT I have a RX 590 Fatboy which I'd love to send you to make a video of and see if your able to repair it.
I am particularly impressed because I think your view a little opened to get, when i´m watching your videos. that will certainly be the goal of the whole and that is certainly a great talent, or a great gift of yours. I think this is something that cannot be learned by the normal pc-hardware nerd.
in short, could you tell where is the problem with the disappearance of the volts ? I find it difficult to follow you. Which is the function of that very LDO-regulator? The problem of failing to have 1.8volts in VRAM is due to this regulator?
Hello I have an MSI R9 380 it works just fine, never crashed, no overheat fans spin normally BUT only outputs video through DVI I and DVI D ports no displayport nor hdmi port. How could I fix it or what may be the cause of this?
hello I hope you are well I wish to get in touch with you to have some advice on how to handle the process of re-soldering components on pcb such as cg and motherboard to save the material rather than to recycle it please accepted my greetings and above all you are a genius
A guy on Ebay sells failed cards from Rx 550 up to Gtx 2080ti, theres gotts be good money in it...I'd like to have studied electronics, the smell of flux and solder...and with I.T and Gaming it's huge economy...non stop work...luv ur MM and diagonstic tests...😀👍
Hi, can you guide me? Let's see what your intuition says. I have a Sapphire RX 570 NITRO +. The fans rotate, but I have no image for any port. The mother's don't beep sounds with all wires connected. If I disconnect 8pin power, 5 beeps sound. What do you think which component may fail? Thank you
Im subscribing. I need help, pls!!! So, my Asus rx 580 4GB, VRM got burned when i was on google chrome, not when i was playing. Before to send it to warranty it was automaticaly overclocking (by the driver) to 1430 Mhz and was maintaining it flawlesly. Now the drive is still overclocking it at 1430, but it crashes, it crashes even at 1380 Mhz, and I cant manually increase the voltage anymore. They've replaced 3 mosfets and a mosfet driver. I don,t exacly know how this voltage controler works, I'm a noob. The voltage fluctuates, i have a brand new PSU 600W, active, and nothing. How do i fix it? Can i find the origynal schematics? I think that they replaced the mosfet driver with the RX480 's one.
Great channel for those of us who like to see how things work and sometimes don't work. And how to go about fixing them. I have an RX 580 (14 months old)that works fine till you start to load windows 10 then the fans stop video goes black. This started a few days ago after bios reported the card overheating. I disassembled the card found the heat pad's in incorrect positions and some folded over. What can I order as far as replacing the pads? Purchased some from Amazon but not sure if they are correct for this application. Also are their card-specific kits you can order or is it mostly DIY. When I was young we did like you tried to fix it ourselves, sometimes we succeded and other times we failed, but we learned something by doing it and not just buying a new one. I'm happy to see others with that same curiosity thank you, also how would I get this card to you if my efforts fail?
Yo creia que los magos se habian extinguido, pero al ver este video me di cuenta que aun estan entre nosotros, porque usted hiso magia. Hay que hacerle el saludo.
Hi Eli, first of all nice vídeo I'm a tech from Argentina and I'm having an issue with my Sapphire Rx 580 nitro plus, maybe you can give a me an advice of what can be the problem with it. When I put the card on the pci slot the motherboard doesn't power on. I've tried it with 4 motherboards and it goes the same with each one. All mother's work fine without the card pluged in, ¿ in this video when you put the card on your mother is power on ? If no, maybe a can do a step for step like you do to know if a regulator or a driver is in bad state. Thanks for your time and keep the good work :D
I have a 580 that is dirty from lots of dust. Any chance that is why when I play games the background of some surfaces flickers black and some of the textures stretch out of their wireframes? It's a little glitchy and annoying. Full disclosure, it was used for mining and does have 3rd party cooler on it that wasn't for that exact model.
Hi Eli! I have a sapphire card, and the fan controller part burning out even if the IC's and other parts needed to change were changed. 1st and 2nd attempt too. Do you think in my case is it because of this LDO regulator too? Or is it powering the GPU only? Thank you!
Hello. Great thanks for your video. I'm experiencing another kind of problem (sorry for digging out this old video) with a RX 580 Armor 8Gb. I'm on a new computer (Aorus AX370 Gaming K7 with latest firmware, 900W PSU, 16gb DDR4, NVMe SSD drive, ...) running Windows 10 x64. The graphic card is a second hand (probably a mining card) and I've a "error 43" but a clean display without any artifacts (but no hardware acceleration). I swapped GPU firmware with one corresponding to memory chip on techpowerup but not solved the issue. Tried to uninstall driver / reinstall (different version... tried crimson version too... no better result). Tried pixel clock patcher... no more luck. I managed to make the card running one time on Ubuntu (played witcher 2 about 1 hour without any problem with ultra details) but no more after a computer reboot (the computer freeze on booting... black screen for a while and all fan running full throttle about 5 seconds before a reboot. maybe an UEFI issue ?). The MSI support doesn't give any more help for old graphic cards and have not issued the latest stock firmware for the card. Is anybody encountered the same problem ? Is there a solution (hardware component to check, software to install) ? The only "old" thing on my computer is the screen (not a 4K capable monitor). Can it be the origin of the problem ? Thanks for any help
You cant see what chip you are checking and on what pin. How do you find out what phase is being checked and what voltage you should see. How do you check it if the gpu gets hot right away? Thanks
I have same problem no output voltage could i just send 3v on the output and bridge it to test if that is problem??? Because i no have replacement chip
Hi, I just admire the way you work.. I have the exact Same card, it works and shows video signal but the fan coolers and the led where says "sapphire" brand, are not working.. Any hints? I can't use it because it will get hot because of fans not working
XFX RX 580 I got has problems as well and I wonder if it's simply thermal pad and paste that needs replacing (It runs, it just crashes the PC if the GPU seems to ramp up usage, via BSOD). I never got around to actually trying to fix it because I don't use that GPU anymore (Asus Strix Vega 56 user here, I gave my Nitro+ 580 to my brother, and the old Intel i5 2500 system is using a 470 since it has 500 Watt PSU.
You should make a channel where you teach this in more depth. Like EEVblog but more geared to repair. Theory where applicable like how these power circuits work. I'd subscribe. I'm amazed you know what to look for and where. How did you learn this stuff? You're a wizard with this stuff.
is there a course or something to learn things like the names nd wht they do like which one gives power.... i wanna learn how to repair gpus but i wnt to start from the bottom
Hello, I have 2 rx 480 with the R47 choke broken, I've been looking for this choke for months and I can't find it anywhere... Do you know where I can buy it or get it? Thanks bro
Hey eli I have same problem with a rx580 msx armor card think you can give me help to repair? Mb sees card but not the os no fans spin nothing. Ppl say card is dead but the mb sees there is something in slot just don’t know what it is I guess like in the vid. Don’t have proper tools just voltmeter
Hi Eli, Love you channel and your work. May I ask how/where to start learning about Graphics card schematics ? can I ask for a video to explain how you learnt all this? Please.
hello excellent video, I have several saphire cards that only one fan works for them I have changed them and the same error continues will you know how to solve it?
Hello, im really happy you made this video because it might be the same problem im facing with my RX580 which do not power at all. 12V fuses have blown, but no short found, the core takes amps from the coils of the power stages but not right after the blown fuses. The situation for me is quite differente as i don't own a motherboard yet, i have a lab PSU and multimeter and i was wondering if it's enough to target the GS7103 as faulty, or even the NCP81022. Do the PCIE connections has to be feed as well during the process ? In my case, if i feed the 12V rail and bypass the fuse, i don't get output from the GS7103. Wish i found the guilty part.
Hi, I have Palit 3080 Gaming Pro 10GB. I wrongly connected +12V to speed signal of double fan socket and GPU died. Now motherboard don't detect GPU. But single fan and RGB LED works when power up. I discovered the GPU. It has one Holtek HT50F52241 and one IS25WP080 and others. Your opinion, which chip controls fans? and which begins communication with motherboard? May my mistake damage main GPU chip? Do i hope that repair it? Please answer me. Thanks for videos.
Hello there, Great to see people repair electronic parts! I was looking for a replacement R68 inductor on mine rx570 (Asus Explorer 4gb) Do you have a some advice for me?
My GS7103 doesnt even get the 3.3V, but the 3.3V line from PCIe is there. what else can i check? Onm the APW8722 i was able to measure 12V on pin 5 and pin 8
@Eli Tech how do you check the regulator, where the point to check this, i have simillar card rx 480 sapphire nitro, my vga fans spinning but not hot and no display
My congratulations... Can I ask you for some help... I bought a 2nd hand RX580, I run it 1st time all perfect and I decided to change the Thermal Paste and Clean it, because it was really really dirty... also with some oxid. It runs perfect... but I have a problem if I leave the graphic card some hours power off, I need to give some hot air to make it start up. After that hot air it starts and I can leave it without any problem hours and hours...
Hello Eli :), i am testing one of my Sapphire nitro Rx580 8gb follow your steps with voltimeter :), in my case video card not show video also on windows no detected my video card, when i tested on PCIe with finger on GPu is getting hot and i shutdown at moment, some suggestion to keep testing ? thank in advance note: is wear because i save this card inside box over 1 year and alls card was working perfect, and now after one years 50% of card getting the same issues :(.
Hi Eli, I have a RX560 4G it can boot up and can install the grahics driver. But sometime it just have some abnormal display and black screen. Is the GPU dying?
Thanks for these videos. You mention the PSU didn't go into defensive mode. What would that indicate if it did? My 580 is putting my PSU into defensive mode and shows a continuous red led on the card.
Love those videos. Feel bad for you, you deserve more views and subscribers. Keep your work and you will succeed !!

The UK needs guys like you. Amazing.
Eli can u please show where exactly the voltage testing points closely, the 12, 5 and 3 volts

Hi Eli, I'm from germany and was looking for a video about repairing a RX570/580. My 570 died last week and I wondered if you could have a look? Can't we use the oven method on this one???

Nice job, glad to see that you got that card working again!!
Hi Eli, Love you channel and your work. May I ask how/where to start learning about Graphics card schematics ? can I ask for a video to explain how you learnt all this? Please.
I have tried this repair, but that chip you replaced only gives me 0.5v output on VOUT, any suggestions?
You have great skills. I want to do what you do. And be as good as you. What degree do you need to learn to repair computer parts? And I subscribed 😁
hello excellent video, I have several saphire cards that only one fan works for them I have changed them and the same error continues will you know how to solve it?

Great video. Is there any way you could try and fix a quadro p1000? Need it for my low budget solidworks pc.
Hi Eli, I have a RX560 4G it can boot up and can install the grahics driver. But sometime it just have some abnormal display and black screen. Is the GPU dying?
You really know your shit dude, couldnt stop watching, very interested to see how you repair other defects.
Thanks for these videos. You mention the PSU didn't go into defensive mode. What would that indicate if it did? My 580 is putting my PSU into defensive mode and shows a continuous red led on the card.
i have an RX 480 with the exact same problem. how much would you charge to fix it? i'm in the USA
