    Thanks Paul for the two videos. I'm surprised of the antenna performance as shown in the video. The SWR plot looked like a dummy load connected to the transceiver. The flat SWR probably indicates heavy losses on the radiator. I suspect most of the radiation efficiency comes from the coaxial counter antenna, which reminds me a similar set up to the T2LT antenna. However this a good solution for hams with restricted space. I wonder what will be the difference using a larger radiator for example a 2.5 meter long whip, which is still a decent size using a fiberglass pole or and ld CB vertical. I also wonder if there is any improvement making a 4 to 5" diameter coil that will exhibit a higher Q, with a better and "healthier" resonance. My guess is in set up show in the video will achieve the best performance with the coaxial line up to the choke as straight up and clear from clutter as possible as this is probably where the antenna efficiency comes from.

    Paul, very nice experiments! It would be interesting to know the reactive (imaginary i.e. capacitive or inductive) component of the antenna measurement too. Also, how does the received signal compare to the spiderbeam?

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  5 лет назад

      Hi Jan, thank you for you comment. Sorry but I don't have real antenna analyser yet. Can you recommend me one? Shouldn't be too pricy of course :-) HF range only is OK. On my HEXBEAM antenna is not a 40m band segment so I can't do real comparison. I can hear clearly 40M band signals on HEXBEAM but antenna is not tuned and of course is not capable to compare. But i plan to hang 45m long end fed antenna from my building to other so after that i will be able to do comparisons :-) 73 and Happy new year!

    Neat work as ever. How might this compare with just putting a 1:1 balun in the feedline with your Moonraker spx100 ? Perhaps do a direct comparison of the two comparing results of station readings of signal strength on RBNet - would be a bit less subjective ??

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  5 лет назад

      Thank you very much! :-) Comparings on HF are still questionable because of different phasing, polarity or QSB between two different antennas and due to different ionospheric refractions or paths. But just for approximate comparison is should be good. The 1:1 balun is not much neccessary to use on Moonraker due to different design of antenna. ;-) 73 Paul

    Excellent video once more. Congrats! Though I am still wondering if this antenna would be capable of a really big DX, like Japan, or Indonesia, or Australia, or South America. I do want to try and make an antenna of this magnitude, cause I am in very difficult QTH. I have neither enough height, not open space. If you have something like this in your plans, it would be great. Congrats again!

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  5 лет назад

      Hi. I am able to compare this antenna with 20m band dipole only and results are clear. I receive DX stations stronger on 20m dipole. But MicroVert antenna is lower than dipole, has an opposite polarization and almost complete radial wire is hided at the elevator room. So I think that it is not very fair-play comparison. I believe if MicroVert was located on the the high rod and it's radial wire was hangt vertically down from antenna in open space so I am sure that it could be as good as the dipole is. If you have a space problem so try to made a magnetic loop antenna with remote controller. You can use a vacuum variable capacitor and thick copper tubing feeded with gamma match. In vertical plane is this antenna directional and in horizontal plane omni-directional but with less gain.

    Hello Paul. Part 2 of the build of this antenna is amazing as you say. We often think that a compromise will not work. Why? Because the theory says it shouldn't or maybe some of our friends are the stimulus for that doubt. Then you try using the antenna and find that it does work. I think you said it correct in your first video that you would not depend on this antenna for decent DX but sometimes it might work decently if band conditions permit. Best 73 es HNY de KB8AMZ

      Hi Terry, yes I agree with you. Hamradio is so nice hobby right because of small miracles like this when you will made own small home made antenna and will put it on the roof, tree or tripod and with just a 5W you will get some good contacts. That's my happiness times with radio hobby. There is no doubt that big beam antenna will work properly and will be efficient but I am more happy when I make a QSO with QRP radio and small portable antenna :-) Many HAMs has telling me that magnetic loop, EH or shortened verticals are a small unefficient antennas and there is no reason to made them. But sometimes it's the best way how to work with radio when I am outdoors for instance or in this case when I don't have better bigger antenna for 40M band, it's better that nothing and it's still working fine I found out :-) 73 and Happy new year!
