I had to listen to this today and weep. My beautiful son died suddenly 8 months ago, he was 30 years old and had just become a first time father. His baby girl was one month old when he died. Years ago I played this song for him and we shared the love from Don Williams that day. I miss him so much, always.
Don Williams is my favorite Country singer of all time. He was the epitome of country life to me. There was NOTHING pretentious about him. Nothing fake or phony. He was always comfortably himself when he performed. He sung of the everyday experiences of country life and bonded with us because he was singing our lives. The simple pleasures, the hard work, the sadness, the disappointments, the joys and the wonders. Family and friendship. Our passtimes, our interests, and our faith in God. He put our lives to music with his beautifully deep and fatherly voice. He chose great songs and never seemed to feel the need to change to follow trends. He was himself. What a treasure. He gave us so many great songs to enjoy with such memorable melodies and meaningful lyrics. Artists of today could learn so much from him.

I love this song and seeing Don act like he’s singing. It’s a shame that HerHaw “believed “ in lip-syncing for the majority of their guest stars. Maybe some of them wanted or preferred to dial it in and lips-sync. And maybe some were nervous about singing live before a studio audience and wider tv audience but missed a chance to record such wonderful and amazing country artists back then. My parents didn’t care for country music but I enjoyed watching HeeHaw with my grandfather. He absolutely loved HeeHaw!❤️
