My Interpretation of the film is that the main character never actually survived the accident....after the car went into the water, the entire film is then based on the character's final moments in her own mind before she dies. The whole movie is what her mind and soul are experiencing before she actually dies. she has the option to get her soul together spiritually but she rejects that as well as any emotional connection....what is actually happening is that she is feeling that she serves no purpose in the world and all of this is what is going through her mind as she transistions into death. I really think that the whole movie after the car crashes consists of events that are NOT really happening - it only shows what was going through her mind while transistioning from life to death. The actual REAL events are at the very end when they pull the car out of the water and we clearly see the main character still in the car.
Absolutely adore this movie. It sill manages to unnerve me every time and the score is just haunting. I'd love to see you cover older and B/W films! This was definitely an interesting choice.
This one was a grower for me but boy did it grow well. First time I saw it, I didnt really like it but with time I kept getting drawn back into it's surreal creepy atmosphere and it has become one of my favorite movies. It has a constant battle with Psycho to be in my top 5 favorite horror movies
This is a true horror classic from the 60s. A ghost story filled with atmosphere that makes you think. The Criterion Blu Ray is a revelation. They did an amazing job with the restoration and loads of extras of course. Thanks for reviewing this one!
Please do more old timey movies! Specifically, King of the Zombies and The Devil Rides Out along with (not my personal favorite one though) To The Devil A Daughter. Really any Christopher Lee movie
my interpretation was that she traded her soul to survive the crash and the consequences were being joyless and an empty shell making her 'survival' pointless because she no longer appreciates the warped version life she sacrificed her soul for, there's also folklore about birds carrying souls after death too.
This was one heck of a movie! Kinda slow... I think thats the word for it, reminded me of an independent film. Very odd... like the predecessor to The Others or something.
Can't believe I can actually say this, but I think its become my favorite horror movie, it does to me what it does to Mary, Im so endlessly drawn to it
It is haunting and scary. Actually, most horror movies that go out with a lot of ghost effects or slashers, with lots of gore don't do anything for me. They make me laugh. It's all Grand Guignol. The psychological ones are scary, Psycho, this one, etc.
Love this movie, the colorized version is excellent also…I think I prefer it to the OG black and white. It had to have been a big influence on movies like the Sixth Sense, Jacob’s Ladder, Vanilla Sky etc. where the protagonist is already dead or in purgatory. Also the zombie depictions are very reminiscent of the ones in Night of The Living Dead, which of course was years later. Enjoyed the review, thanks ✌️
I love this movie. It is very awkward and just off somehow and it really adds to the atmosphere. The acting is quirky and the irony is that the “jerk” Mr. Linden does a great job with his character. He was probably the best actor in the movie. I don’t read much into the story. It’s just a good “ghost” story told on a budget. Mary is killed but somehow straddles the dimensions of life and death. The man is there to place her on the side she belongs. She has no connection with the living and desires none, but still isn’t sure why. She has no real recollection of her past and is only concerned with the present and this man she keeps seeing. In the end she is finally brought to her fate and alas she can rest on the side where she belonged.
I haven't watched the remake since I was a kid but I remember being scared shitless of the the carwash scene for some reason. I'd love to see more older films, maybe you could do the Universal Monster movies at some point.
I was only 7 when I saw this movie on Creature Features. For years I thought I had dreamt parts of that movie especially the dead dancing in the ballroom. It took me to the age of 13 to rewatch and then realize it was from a movie. This movie was so creepy and atmospheric it embedded into my SOUL. No pun intended
I've got an interesting idea for slasher Sunday in Feb :Valentine. It has a special blu ray collectors edition coming out on the 12th if I'm not mistaken. Just gonna leave this here...
Sinister Cinema Reviews I haven’t seen that forever... but it sounds like they don’t use anything sophisticated because if they find a body, they risk damaging the evidence if it is foul play.
I think I'm going to get this, sometime. It sounds pretty good. I noticed you have Shoot Em Up on the shelf, behind you. That is my all time favorite over the top action comedy. Have you ever seen the movie A Bay Of Blood? That is a great whodunit slasher from the early 70's. I'd recommend that for a slasher Sunday, or just to have a good movie watching experience. Thank you for another awesome video ☺
@@sinistercinemareviews5420 that is the only movie of his that I have seen. I'm going to keep an eye out for more of his movies, when I can get a good deal.

yes that's what I believe is happening to her throughout the whole movie. Shes dying and this is the last visions

Katie Woo folklore was probably the word I was searching for
The birds she heard were robins....The zombie people were people who did in the lake and also accidents nearby..

That’s because it WAS an independent film.
This is the first movie I saw that scared me.Also,of course I’d like you to cover earlier movies in addition to the newer ones.
Carnival of souls It was made for 30 not 17
❤️ love the creepiness of this one.
Thumbs Up Jason!!

classic bro classic :D
Insightful analysis!
Actually, the old films were better than today's. The 30s, 40s were the golden age of movies. Some of the best movies are old black and white flicks.
Says you
@@sinistercinemareviews5420Yes,says me. But you won't know bc you won't watch these good, even great, old ones. Some of the greatest films in history.
