Idk if I can agree with pops at all about this being safe. For the time it was in, there was nothing really like this. The closest thing I can think of was Tyler’s first studio album “Goblin” and that’s mostly because of the deep voice character in both albums. Like this set the stage for a whole generation and new genre of rap. Without this similar albums that followed would never have had commercial success. It’s a very nostalgic album to me too though so I feel like it’s all classics. He had such unique flows and beats for this era.
The thing is that now adays this sound forsure is more of a safe move but back when this dropped especially for a new York rapper it really wasn't a safe sound but listening to it nowadays I understand his point of view bcuz he doesn't know what the safe sound of that time was
Almost all of Rocky's albums were ahead it's time, following suit in the Kanye lineage of artistry. This album sounds commercial because it came out and set precedent for music like this, the same exact thing happened with TE$TING.
@@escaleira7002 Live Love is arguably the greatest mixtape of all time, everything after that was just good at best. ALLA is second though I’ll give you that.
@@ChronicallyaddictedtomusicI mean I get it but the soundscape of alla is much more refined and the lyrical content is far superior…but his mixtape has better and more consistent production.
How does he listen to this and get commercial when it’s better music than what most modern artist put out, and majority of the album is pulling from the old school sound lol (saying this in the most respectful way possible)
I’m confused on the “safe” take. Do you think it’s was safe from today’s lens or of the time? Because at that time this was not safe. His features weren’t the features they are now, his sound wasn’t something ppl was use to.
The Lords Never Worry mixtape by A$AP Mob had way more of a New York sound, even had Raekwon the Chef on there. Live. Love. ASAP is better than this, peak Rocky

Live Love is WAY better
it's the least popular by far ig but it's easily the best
Drake's verse on Fuckin Problems is universally recognized as being better than Kendrick's. 2 Chainz did do his thing tho.
Do UENO by Wiz Khalifa
