  • Whether it's helping you locate where you parked your car, or jump-starting your dead battery after you leave your lights on, Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center's security officers are a uniformly reassuring presence on the hospital campus.

I am the lead security officer at the hospital I work at and this is some of the things we have to do. Among others such as light maintenance which falls under changing out light bulbs, plunging toilets and replacing call button remotes or things of that sort, but only when maintenance is not on duty. Now as far as patients go if they are here for behavioral issues or overdoses we must clear the rooms inventory their personal belongings and lock it up in a safe which is located in the security office. Monitor patients who tend to cause problems due to psychiatric issues, or because they are under the influence. It's a bunch of mess and no one gets credibility for the good deeds performed, or saving someone from getting hurt by another person that sort of thing but whenever we have to address issues with employees for example for parking in wrong parking lots that are designated for patients or even doctors, or asking someone not to smoke in non smoking areas, these people are ready to report us or degrade us for doing our job. So yeah not enough props for those who work in this field. I totally understand where you guys come from when you say security officers/guards do not get recognition when deserved.

i am a security officer at a smaller hospital. We carry pepper spray, hand cuffs and a taser. We have a lot of patient contacts and at times it gets pretty bad due to the rise in psych patients we constantly have to deal with.

Because either nothing happens at his Facility or they are not letting him tell what really happens in the ED. This is busy work calls.

This puts down all the security officers that do some security work. This guy probably gets paid $5 an hour. Sounds like he has no patient care/contact. Problem patients are delt with by real security officers.
