- Craving an adventure, I found myself a bargain train ticket from Birmingham New Street to Holyhead and decided what better excuse than to cycle NCN route 8, better known as Lon Las Cymru across the length of Wales.
On one of the hottest weekends of the year, at around 30C, I tackled the 400km route north to south. Bikepacking gear packed, I started with a loop around Holy Island before the first leg down to Snowdonia.
Brilliant route, well signposted and taking little country lanes and cyclepaths for the most part!
Absolutely loved this adventure, although the heat made for its own challenge - punctuated with many an ice cream stop along the way. Shout out to Cariad Gelato in Porthamadog for one of the best ice creams I've ever eaten!
Loop round Holy Island: 30km 290m
Day 1: Valley to Penrhyndeudraeth: 106km 850m

I’m planning to do this ride this year. Looks amazing + You had great weather for the first part of the ride… hope I have the same!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the journey. Thanks 😊
Ah fantastic - it’s an amazing route - I was blown away by Wales! Will try and get parts 2 and 3 up for you soon!
Lovely area Wales, good miles 👍😻
It really was! Was unexpectedly beautiful, although can’t decide if it’s just because I was spoiled with that weather (and amazing ice creams!)
wot a dream ride
Is it on your bucket list?
Rode this in July.
Ah, your making me excited for my bike packing trips this year!
Ah thanks Connor! How can the weather not get you excited though… roll on shorts and short sleeve weather!!!
Hi. I am doing the same ride at the beginning of July this year. First time I have done anything like this. I am going to start at Bangor and finish at Cardiff. Be good to see your other videos, any tips, b&b accommodation, food stops etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt

I have a gravel frame with 32c tyres. Sometimes gravel roads but most of the time I'm riding on concrete or tarmac.
