The thing is that even if this is a writing assignment, that there are real people out there that are just like this woman. A former friend of mine from high school was like this. She made some of our friend circle actually believe she was dating this boy who was on the basketball team... So much so that one of our other friends (also a former friend) approached a girl he was dancing with at the school dance and attacked her even though she was his actual girlfriend.
She isn't just delusional, she's absolutely cruel. These girls were upset, confused and terrified. They probably were told by their dad or overheard parts of the conversation on his end where they learned their mother got involved in an accident. OP should have done activities with these girls that got them to forget their worries and have a little bit of fun. I am sure there were things they could have done like watch a movie together, go to the park, play some games... whatever. She could have at least calmed these poor girls down so that they weren't a ball of anxiety and panic the entire day. Obviously taking the children out of the house for a bit to do anything would have meant asking the father for permission, but he would have agreed if it meant keeping his children safe and occupied until he called them with updates on their mother and unborn sibling.

Story 3: I truly feel for them both, mainly because I’m in a similar situation. It can be hard to make friends for some people, even if you put yourself out there. You can be everything someone looks for in a friend but still end up without them. No one’s owed friends of course but at some point, you get discouraged and stop trying. Her seeking therapy for her depression was a good move. It sucks that therapy is getting harder and harder to obtain but I’m glad she at least has a support system with OP for now.

Its pretty unfortunate, online friends can definitely only give you so much. Part of me does wonder since she has hobbies, aren't there events for these sorts of things where she's likely to meet people who share her hobbies. I will say I don't recommend everyone go down the route of just becoming friendless and trying to cope in one way or another with being lonely as you really have to find that will to keep going in even the worst of situations, which I wouldn't want people to take risks here since failure leads to an obvious result, potentially offing one's self. I am the complete opposite and make friends easily. I've been told a few times by a number of people that I have some kind of magnetic pull that gets all sorts of people to me. Obviously, this has gotten me into trouble with some people being awful and toxic, but I feel like it's a good gift to have because I am able to pull even the most reluctant person in and make friends with them even if they don't think they deserve to have a friend... or want a friend. I feel so sorry for OP's girlfriend. Honestly, I feel that if I were to meet her in person that I'd be her friend. Then instead of calming down the girls who were obviously very distressed, panicked, and believing that their mother was dying because they would've been told by their dad a little bit of what was going on. OP lives in this fantasy world where she says to herself that having these children as stepdaughters wouldn't work. It's very easy to get children to focus on something else for a little bit... to have fun while they are worried. OP could have put on a fun movie, took them out to a family restaurant or a park... do something with them like games or artwork. Anything would have been better other than what she did. Anyway, that is the least of the issues I have with this OP. She's so delusional that she actually set up some kind of fantasy life for herself with this man. This woman is a threat to this man and his family. Especially now that she doesn't have what she wants and knows that there's 'another' woman in the way of her goals.

They also have clubs geared specifically based on academics. I got to be really close friends with a lot of my classmates when I signed up for their science clubs. And I met a guy while totally geeking out about dinosaurs and prehistoric life... Anyway, OP's girlfriend should see how she'd feel about finding a club that is geared to her interests that always accepts new people. I bet she'd make a friend or even two or three if she did that. I just feel terrible for this poor girl.
