I’m sorry to hear about your struggles - it seems an all to common story. I’m lucky enough to have a good job in tech, for a company currently working on accessibility features for our product (and owned by a multinational that seems to take it seriously). So, there’s some awareness (though my needs aren’t great at this time). I’ve been getting involved in the inclusion and diversity initiatives, advocating a bit. I’m going to do some more study in the HR area - I’m learning that there’s a need for advocates and understanding inside companies more and more, especially in relation to disability. I had done some work on the side with a company called Lionbridge, who support search engine results quality. Interesting, but not lucrative, sadly.
Good for you doing the advocacy, I agree that most companies have a long way to go. I would have liked a bit more notice so I could have prepared myself a bit better career wise.
I feel you, bro. You are not quite sure how much to tell an employer when you are interviewing for a job. I noticed that I will lay out all my best strength in the beginning and pretty much sell myself their and then bring my vision. But I also let them know that I have. my own resources that can help me perform the job. I think employers do not want to be bothered with dealing with and that is why get so may rejection letters. I had to learn new skills and find a new career as well.
