    I totally get your situation, guys. I'm a freelancer myself and you gotta move where the times, the technology, and the passions! Everyone's using adblockers (though I always disable mine for you guys!) and you gotta not only pay the bills and try and break even, but you gotta try and get more money to be able to spend on improving and expanding. I like the short and sharp videos, and I hope you bank up some to put out when you need them, but look forward to seeing the new direction you're going. Lifer sub here.

      I gotta say with the way youtubes content. The thing I see that works is weirdness. Not your average "face melting off" weirdness but the 4chan, filthyfrank, pewdiepie kind of weirdness. I mean the reason why pewdiepies content became way better is because he looked at filthyfranks videos and basically did that but with video games and reaction videos

    • @FancyFun3433
      @FancyFun3433 8 лет назад +12

      I'm talking, get really freaking weird. You guys are able to do things pewds and frank can't. You guys can do rapunzel but instead of really long hair its a guy with like a really long arm. XD I'm not saying make it but that would be an example

    Personally, I'm super okay with the new format you're going for ! Loved Tether, so it's gonna be awesome to see another project like it. But if you still did some short vids like Top Down Shooter once in a while, that'd also be fantastic. Here's to another year of superb YT content !

    Imma be honest, I was expecting to be really annoyed with the sponsored message. But the countdown when it's happening makes it so nice to skip to after the thing. So that it doesn't force an ad on you, it's skippable. Really love that idea.

  • @Jaryth000

    I've been watching Corridor for a few years now. Fell in love with the content, and then again, and somewhat even more so with this Channel. Seeing Wren deal with the challenges that come up in day to day production is pretty awesome!
    I understand the need for the format change. A lot of RUclipsrs have talked about the way RUclips has chanced the platform to push longer videos (or rather, more engagement). Viral Videos are still a thing, new videos randomly take off every day, but I can also understand its getting harder to rely on a video "taking off", as your production costs start getting higher and higher. Rents not cheap yo.
    So I respect the need for change, and how that change can mean good things, but may be at the cost of why I for one had subscribed to the main channel in the first place. But I'm willing to go with it, see how it pans out. The Meme's video was OK, and this video had good communication, so thats good.
    I guess my main fear, is that the content becomes too similar to what Rocket Jump tried to do. I used to love freddiew, and still do love BrandonJLa (I mean, VR is neat), but what Freddie has turned Rocket Jump into is just... well kinda bad. For me at least. Freddiew had been one of the first RUclipsr's I had subscribed to, nearly a decade ago. It was around 4 months ago (I think the last straw was the Sweet Justice (ft. Harley Morenstein)) that I realized, I just did not like the content he was trying to create, and I had not in a while. Each video I kept watching and thinking "Maybe the next one would be better?" and it never was. So I had enough and unsubscribed.
    I mean, I'm just one viewer, one of millions. But looking at the Rocket Jump subscriber stats, and how stagnant they've been for 2016... I'm not the only one thats been unsubscribing.
    All that being said however, I trust you guys, and I trust that you can make the new format succeed when it comes out. I will echo what others have said however, that finding sponsors that more fit your audience may be a better option. I mean, I've seen this Best Friends Forever app being sponsored on a few videos, so they must be paying out pretty well (hopefully at least), but I think that for both your channel, and the advertiser, finding something more in line with your audience would work out better for everyone. If the option arises at least.
    Anyway, that is all. Sorry I tend to type a lot.

      He's a professional, so they obviously pay him, but he isn't a regular employee. My best guess is they hire him for videos with a bigger budget and/or videos in which Sam and Niko both act.

    I know this change of style is gonna help you guys out more but hopefully you won't change because you feel like you have to and that you can still make videos you are proud of and videos that inspire more people like me.
    Just wanted to let you know that you guys are awesome and I hope Corridordigital stays Corridordigital, the awesome, crazy, funny and original video producers on RUclips, and doesn't become Corridordigital, the channel that makes videos because sponsors said they have to.

    Rip good old nostalgic vfx videos.
    After Freddiew turned into Rocketjump we missed it, then Brandon promised to continue doing it, which turned out into 3dsmax tutorials and bhs then Stress Level zero. Node is fun and all, and a great way to see you all together, but Corridor was always the one that had just that tiny bit of better vfx with like the crazy rayfire scenes and storytelling like Tether and the Cod one, those projects were giant and blew our minds because we were used to the amazing vfx shorts. It felt like an extra, the vfx shorts are the roots though.
    Any way, seeing how good this whole Sam&Niko BHS channel turned out, I guess you can pull something off.

    I appreciate the way you've incorporated the ads with having a countdown timer so we can skip if we're really not interested. I find that it's on a very rare occasion that ads ever engage me so 99/100 times I'll end up skipping if I can. I totally get it though and appreciate that you gotta do what you gotta do to keep bringing the goods and I look forward to seeing where you guys take things. Do I personally mind sponsored ads from you? No. Why? Communication. While most people would just stick them in, at least you give us the courtesy of explaining things. Now the thing I don't understand: what's the purpose of your Patreon then? You say ads are to help you make bigger videos, but you also say the same thing on Patreon ("your support means you get to see more content of the highest quality, while we get the creative satisfaction of creating bigger and better videos.") You cite that that money goes towards production related costs. Now I'm not an idiot - obviously doing what you do costs A LOT of money, and while I know you can't be completely transparent, I'm interested in how much everything costs to be put together. I think a better understand would help more people accept the changes you want to implement.

    • @Corridor
      @Corridor 8 лет назад +70

      Sponsored content usually only comes in the fall when companies are spending marketing money for the Christmas push. The rest of the year we get very few brand integrations, so we rely on our audience to help fund our content.
      With studio rent, average salaries for everyone in the studio, and money spent on the videos, we're looking at costs of about $35k per month! That number is kind of scary now that I look at it... -Niko

    • @ChrisLerouxDesign
      @ChrisLerouxDesign 8 лет назад +17

      Corridor Firstly, thank you for taking the time to respond Niko. I can certainly imagine that operation costs are quite crazy. I have the "convenience" of editing from home (I'd love to eventually start a team like you guys have), but salaries, rent, and utilities certainly must cost an absolute fortune. I'm curious as to how important merch is, because it seems as if RUclipsrs MUST have several revenue streams in order to remain sustainable.
      It's actually really interesting that you bring up sponsorship deals rising in fall. I knew that AdSense fluctuated, but not sponsorships. Those down periods must be pretty strenuous.

    • @cassidymedia
      @cassidymedia 8 лет назад +14

      To be honest I can stand a 1-minute ad at the beginning of the video. I think it's a great idea you have a countdown as to how long it would go for as well as made the ad funny to watch atleast. As long as you guys are still able to create the video you want to make then I'm more than happy with a sponsorship here and there.

      A channel shouldn't have to communicate why they are putting ads in. I don't know where this mentality started. Companies have done ads forever and it is part of the business. They are the easiest things to skip.

    I wish you luck with the new format! I feel that this new approach could work with episodic stories like you did with 'Sync' but maybe shorter and with that sponsor at the begining.
    I've been following your stuff since 'shoot your friends' and learn a lot with you guys! Don't be afraid of pushing foward and If by any chance you need a creature designer or vfx support for a project, well, you know "wink wink".

  • @Watersurf
    @Watersurf 8 лет назад

    Don't know if y'all will end up seeing this but I think taking the story approach is great. I've been following you guys since you launched your corridor channel back in early 2008. Took a lot of inspiration from your work and applied it to my own story based content. I say longer content with less vfx is great. It's easier to produce and I feel like if a strong story is in order, people will watch it as if it were like a tv show or movie. At least, that's what I like seeing, don't know if anyone else feels that way. Since you guys are a much larger channel than me, I feel like if you guys do this story based content, maybe it might change the way the content is created here on RUclips. Sorry if my words sound jumbled by hey, the main point I'm driving is I am all for it. The battlefield series is great and I think whatever you create here will be just as good (if not better). Thanks for doing what you have been doing.

    I'd say you guys handled this latest sponsorship very well. You made it fun to watch (and in a way, its own content), and what's important to a lot of people I think is that you didn't lose the Corridor personality in it. It was still just you guys having fun doing goofy stuff & I think a big problem people have with sponsored content is how artificial it feels. A lot of people don't like RocketJump's sponsored material because they think it loses the actual spirit of the channel (and possibly quality) in favor of putting on this figurative costume that sponsors want them to wear.
    As long as you can incorporate it smoothly without entirely losing your channel's personality in it, I hardly even mind the sponsorships. Of course, I'm always rooting for you guys so it's hard for me to come up with negative feedback :)

    I think that it's really cool that you are doing longer, more story driven videos, and one per week is amazing (don't kill Wren though ;D) but maybe you could put out a shorter more VFX driven sketch occasionally? Something just based around a cool thing you found or some cool concept like Head Hunters, Splinter Cell : Blacklist, Top Down Shooter, and/or Clock Blockers. Just every so often (2-ish months) see if you have an idea for one please because those are really fin to watch for the concepts and editing, not only for story. Thanks for reading this, and I look forwards to this new direction in your videos!

    I really don't mind Ads, out of all the RUclipsrs, I really have appreciated Jacksfilms way of doing Ads the best. He manages to keep his exact humor and style during the ad, that makes it completely worth watching because you should get a good laugh out of it. I will say I am less likely to send the video to my friends because of the 30~ second ad in front.
    Love all your work!

  • @lforlight
    @lforlight 8 лет назад +1

    As much as I dislike ads, the fact that you put up a timer is wonderful.
    The thing I'm now cross with is the advertised product itself. I said it in the comments of the main video: A game or a product that you try to sell as "addictive" is bad. We've seen with Candy Crush that games can be designed to be addictive, and when they slap microtransactions on top of that, they're simply harmful.
    I don't personally know the advertised game and I don't know if it's got a payment method of some sort. What I do know is that people in the comments of the main video said it was a bad game.
    So I say this: Be selective with your advertisers. Just like you won't advertise the neighborhood drug dealer, you shouldn't advertise bad and potentially hateful products. And certainly don't use "addictive" as a selling point.
    What you could do is maybe find advertisers in your actual field, who are relevant to your audience. Like you said, viral videos are gone. The memes video isn't going to reach the casual Facebook audience of moms. So why advertise to them?

    I mostly started watching Corridor Digital because when FreddieW became RocketJump, they stopped producing the short, 3 to 6 minute videos that I loved. That length can really flesh out an idea without overstaying it's welcome. RocketJump's videos often feel like they could have ended 4 minutes earlier, and by the time they're over, they've overstayed their welcome and they lose all of their appeal. I honestly think that if your strengths are relatively simple, VFX heavy ideas, doing longer narrative-driven videos don't work to those strengths, and the potential new format has me extremely worried.

    I know that you guys don't get to pick what companies what companies want to sponsee you, but I think advertising for products and companies that you all use on a regular basis would add a greater sense of legitimacy to the in video ads. While I appreciate you guys trying to make the ads as entertaining as possible, your audience would probably be more likely to sit through an ad based on your experience and anecdotes than an ad for a product you have never used. Just my two cents. I wish you guys all the best on your new format! +Corridor +wrenthereaper

    The first videos I saw of Corridor Digital years ago hooked me because you took a crazy idea and brought it to life. This switch isn't a bad one, but this reveal isn't exactly inspiring. If there's been one aspect of Corridor that's always been lacking it has been the handling of your own brand; partnering with Best Fiends Forever to launch a big change should highlight this problem. Corridor Digital, a company with a history of working with powerful companies and AAA brands in the gaming market, revealed their new content plan along side a brand from a shallow, terminally greedy and low-budget mobile market with a video that, rather than embracing and working with the game, tacks on an ad to a meme-centric video. Corridor has a good reputation and people know to expect quality and crazy videos; RUSH was just launched a month ago where Sam and Niko spent who knows how long crafting a quality experience with the craziness of Battlefield. On it's coat-tails you've release a meme-centric video prefaced with a boring ad (as in 72 seconds of "play this" with fireworks, not 109 seconds of breaking into a tank). This isn't how you sell us this big change. Find a deal with a much better brand, spend time crafting a quality video, and re-pitch this idea of change or it won't end very well. Sincerely, a loyal brand marketer.

    Want you all at Corridor to know you have my backing. I feel like those who are true Corridor fans will support your desires to shape your company into what you've wanted to be for a while. If that means some sponsored ads, so be it. Love your content, keep being original.

    Please be more selective with your sponsors, that app makes no sense with your brand.

      Corridor should try to keep the sponsors to products they actually like. That game has like the same mechanics as all those other stupid apps. It looks boring as shit. I bet Niko hardly plays it at all. They shouldn't lie to their fans about what they like. That's selling out. It was really minor here but I hope in the future they can make enough money to keep making great stuff without crap like this. I love these guys.

    I don't mind the sponsored content. And I'm really excited to see more original content, and longer, more story-driven plots. I really enjoyed Sync, I'm enjoying Rush now, and I can't wait for more! REALLY can't wait to see you guys in theaters! :D

    I'll be interested to see how you guys implement your new format and I look forward to seeing what you can do with a more plot heavy style of content. A word of caution though, RUclips audiences are incredibly fickle when it comes to change. I can't tell you how many times I've seen viewership dwindle away when an audience doesn't quite get what it's expecting, particularly when brand deals are involved.
    That being said, I think authenticity and communication are paramount when it comes to maintaining a loyal audience through sponsorships and changing content, and you guys do both of those better than just about anybody on this site.

    I'm assuming that with the introduction of this more storytelling-based update, we can expect some more like "MERV" (By Little Dragon Pictures). Now, your style, of course, will be different in both story and cinematography, but I'm sure that regardless, these upcoming videos are going to be far more valuable to both the viewers, and to you. Keep it up guys! :D

    Ultimately i watched Corridor for the 2-3 minutes of wacky game/film related videos but also the long story driven ones as well and while i'm gonna miss the fun ones i just hope all the story driven videos wont all be dark and depressing and maybe have some humor here and there.

    could you guys try to open up a store for the uk? it was a bit more expenisve to buy normally as I had to buy $14 shipping, which is a large amount. just a suggestion, I like the idea of your sponsored minute, you guys should also do more detailed walkthroughs of videos, like how you have progressed from your early work to your new work, and see how you have changed.

    I'm all for this idea and completely understand sponsored content. I like how you put it in the different segment instead of incorporating it in the video. Also, since you put the time, I can easily skip the sponsored ad part!
    I personally much rather watch more storytelling pieces then gimmicky VFC focused pieces. It's almost impossible to find anything story related in RUclips these days.
    It's truly amazing how basically Corridor and RocketJump are the only ones left... Rocket Jump are personally too goofy and cringy for me.

    I, for one, am kind of cautious about the new model. I have absolutely nothing wrong about the ads and not as heavy VFX, but as someone who does a lot if writing and acting, I think it's going to be very hard to make content that really engages an audience every week. You can have a beautiful story, with in depth characters, but if you don't form a connection to the characters, the audience loses focus. Your stellar VFX was a great way to add that final element that your videos needed, so how do you plan to supliment that?
    P.S. Tell Wren that he's my spirit animal

  • @TheUnknownGamer324

    I believe that this change is an okay idea, but I still think that you guys should still try to keep putting out 2-3 minute videos. They may put a lot of pressure on you guys to make it and it may not be your dream, but the true fans of corridor love it. Either way, I enjoy corridors shorter videos and its series like rush, so I could go either way. Also, just a tip, when I was watching rush and they were at the first vault, the merc with rocket launcher was undergoing a lot of recoil after every shot, but RPGs have no recoil since all the gas is expelled out the back. Just that I noticed and wanted to tell you. KEEP MAKING VIDEOS!
