Thank you so much for these video's! I am planning my wedding in October and I want to make my own cake, these videos are going to help me soooo much. I already know what flavor cake I want but I need some ideas for decorating.

The tape is on the bottom side and does not show--the covering has to be attached somehow.

You flip the board over and put the cake on the top, fully-covered side.

What do material used for board? Is that very thin wood?

The cake is on its own separate cardboard the same size as the cake. The carpet tape is between the two pieces of cardboard.

Carpet tape? I'm assuming it's at the hardware store in the carpet area. It appears to be black in the video? Just checking before I go and look for it.

Could you use almost anything for covering cake boards? Say, a thin shimmery fabric? I've heard that satiney material cleans nicely.

Yes, you can use fabric to cover the cake board, but you must have the cake on it's own cardboard the same size as the cake (then this set on top of the fabric) so that the cake does not touch the fabric--since fabric is not necessarily a food-contact-safe item.

A carpet tape??? Much better to spread a little bit of icing to stick on cake to the board.

In warmer climates or transporting vehicles, the shortening in the icing can get soft/slipery. The carpet tape is more secure.
