Even if they build some kind of awesome bridge-like thing across the hole, it will not help them when the next one opens up a few feet in whatever direction the new stuff is standing on. They need to find out where all the caves are beneath them and then completely abandon the ground above them. Also, someone should check if part of the famous Mammoth Cave underground labyrinth was destroyed by this disaster.
It's crazy to think that the hole was there when the museum was being built (whenever that was). Just up until now is when it caved in. Part of me wonders what else lies beneath the museum, maybe a cave system that could attract more guests! So it would be a Corvette/Cave museum. Lol
I own Mallett 98-003. Tested in Car and Driver and Malletts first customer car, built before 002. Beautiful, as picked up from Mallett belongs in museum, you have build archive. Would be willing to sell if interested. Thanks
ehrldawg No but the ZR-1 production was stopped a long time ago. When they brought it back, it was huge for the fans of the ZR-1s. Kind of like when Camaro stopped making cars then made the new one or something
Actually the last one still remains elusive. It's the 2001 Z06 that is still in the sinkhole. They retrieved the 1.5 millionth today. now they are trying to locate the last one..there is TONS and TONS of rock slabs and debris in the way.
Only one I really have any pity for is the 62. As a car guy this happening to any car museum is not good. Well unless youre housing Ferraris, lambos that sorta thing
No, it's not ok to happen to any museum. Just because Mustangs aren't as popular as Corvettes are, doesn't mean the folks that do love them wouldn't be just as upset.
Amen .They should have had the ground sounded before building there. On the property next door is a sizable sink hole and the surrounding area has sinkholes.
dougslittlediesel Not to mention the fact that this is very close to Mammoth Cave. One of the largest cave systems in the world. Geo. Surveying DEFINITELY should have been done. I love the museum though. I've been there twice pre-sinkhole.
WHAT ABOUT THE LAST 3 ?? i noticed today they are pouring dirt in the hole over top of the black Spyder and the Mallet Hammer is still down there too Along with the 2009 1,500,000 Corvette AND the frame and Drivetrain display that no one has mentioned yet that also fell in the hole. as of the time that the 84 Pace car retrieval there have not been any cranes or other retrieval equipment in the building and then today without removing the remaining cars i see the construction crews dumping Dirt in on top of the cars that remain down in the hole, from the repair work being done to the spire. WTF???
it's all propaganda thats why the different stories... much of what u see in the news isnt real. look up corvette museum hoax. watch thos videos see what ya think
ja ja el corvette mas nuevo y menos costoso... fue el que tuvo menos daño..jaja se ve que la misma gente de chevrolet se dio cuenta que eran una mierda y los tiraron en un poso a todos..ajjaa
if it wasn't for the sinkhole I wouldn't of went to this museum the corvette is one of the most over rated cars ever built and the sinkhole was more of an attraction then the museum its self
Sometimes GM really shows their greatness. This is definitely one of those times. Thank you GM for helping to rescue and save these cars.
You mean the crane company they highered?
Sabtath Equlmath Learn how to spell before you post DUMB ASS!!!

i remember i got a little emotional when i saw the video of the Blue Devil fire up... i cant wait until i get to come and see it.
I hope GM does this for the restorations
wonder if they considered leaving the cars down there and putting a glass floor over the hole? that'd be something you don't see every day
Such a shame that the millionth corvette got so ruined, I really hope they have insurance that will pay for most of it.
That one might be pretty bad, but the ones you can't see down in that hole will probably be worse. I bet the 1.5 million car will be unrecognizable.

What lies beneath the museum is the world’s largest cave system, Mammoth Caves.

Can u do a video of highlights and a walk around
Awesome.
The red spike is a tail light of a corvett
Im not a vette person. Why is the ZR-1 significant?
The ZR-1 is significant because it is the first, serial number 1.
D3ATHPRONE But why is the ZR-1 model significant? Does the vette museum have a car from every "series" and/or year?
ehrldawg No but the ZR-1 production was stopped a long time ago. When they brought it back, it was huge for the fans of the ZR-1s. Kind of like when Camaro stopped making cars then made the new one or something
Is that 5 out of 8 in the hole?

Great!!!!
So how deep is that hole?
I asked my wife that once. I still have the scar.
Dan Vloedman Awesome reply comment!
Dan Vloedman You sir have balls the size of watermelons.
Was the one and only 83 destroyed?
No; didn't even fall in the hole.
Good luck restoring these cars
let's all let's all be honest its okay if this would happen to a Mustang museum but not the Corvette Museum! the Gods can be so cruel!
Only one I really have any pity for is the 62. As a car guy this happening to any car museum is not good. Well unless youre housing Ferraris, lambos that sorta thing

Mike Mclkinney Why the heck would you say that? Someone who calls himself a car guy should know better.
Each historic car on this planet is important.
Monster jam
Pas de chance pour le National Corvette Museum ! perdre 5 sublime bolide !!!
Next time pay for a geo survey

It's to protect the cars while concrete slabs are removed...it's just sand
So they are leaving 2 in the sink hole? I heard on the news it was only one, what a shame...:(
it's all propaganda thats why the different stories... much of what u see in the news isnt real. look up corvette museum hoax. watch thos videos see what ya think
All 8 that fell in the sinkhole were eventually removed, albeit some were damaged beyond repair.
ja ja el corvette mas nuevo y menos costoso... fue el que tuvo menos daño..jaja
se ve que la misma gente de chevrolet se dio cuenta que eran una mierda y los tiraron en un poso a todos..ajjaa
Undvn mm
This was not a Documentary about the Sinkhole, was a documentary about douches going on and on about a car.
Austin Schaeffer Stop crying kid.
Right. The sinkhole isn't important. The cars are.
Is this propaganda?
if it wasn't for the sinkhole I wouldn't of went to this museum the corvette is one of the most over rated cars ever built and the sinkhole was more of an attraction then the museum its self
Not at all... Corvettes are the most iconic sports car in American history
Even people that don't care about the Corvette, don't care that you don't care about them.
