I watched many videos by far this was the best one simple but very effective. most of all I appreciate the way you explain it.THANK YOU
Thank you so much! It means the world. :) Thanks for watching! :)
I didn't have a mannequin head so I cut off a real human head. Now I'm in prison. Thanks Jeff!
It's not my fault! :P
🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️
This is the first "overview" video I've seen that actually took the time to discuss hard and soft lighting and how to use it. Most videos only discuss positioning and ignore the type of light falling on your subject.
It's the simple breakdown of how light works and the cheap accessories used fer me. Thanks !
4yrs later, still great tutorial. The light principles still apply. Thanks!
Love your videos. I'm becoming more confident that I can turn this small apartment room into a decent studio because of you man. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.
Miles Stevens I’m glad that you’re finding the value in these! They’re incredibly fun to put together. :)
I honestly need a refresher. I'm getting my groove back 😅 for photography/videography.
This was the easiest example of lighting explained, thank you.
Dope video, learned a lot thanks for taking the time to create this video
I don't know how I came across your youtube channel, but I'm glad I did. One of the best videos I've seen on explaining light. So simple. Thanks.
Light is light. You should have an Amazon store to help your students and your bottom line. You are a great teacher.

Very simple and straight to the details
This was so helpful!!! I am forever overwhelmed on what to buy first for a beginner photographer, and this gives me a bit of an idea, but i wouldnt mind a little guidance! Thanks!!
Man , you just simply deserve that like button, like thank you so muck
Jeff. One of the BEST lighting tutorials I have EVER seen. Nice job. Keep em coming!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words! :)
You are a great teacher. Thanks !
Just stumbled across this video, excellent introduction thank you ! I'll see what else you have.
I quickly gathered the flashlight, plastic bag, and cutting board to try this out 😂 thanks for the easy to understand and fun explanation!!
NEW STUDIO AREA ...
I have a green screen background and I have a white board which I want to stand in front of for making some videos.
I have two light boxes, four hardware store clip lights with the reflective cone and two "umbrella" lights. All sport daylight corrected CFL bulbs (BIG suckers).
I am a neophyte when it comes to lighting.
The white board loves to act as a "mirror" of sorts to show any lights in front of it. Moving the light main to the side to avoid the reflection produces a lot of obvious shadows (ICK).
I am also having trouble evenly illuminating the green screen background (my chroma keying in post production is a real challenge to get right and I often have to mask out parts of the subject to avoid semi-transparent subjects).
What kind of advise can you give me on this?
Well spoken. You made this so easy to understand
That was a phenomenal tutorial! For real it was concise easy to understand and I walked away with a new genuine understanding on how lighting works

Which is generally considered more flaterring, direct lighting with more defined shadow, or the softer lighting & shadow? I always hear people attribute the lighting for their flattering photos and it seems the brighter and more direct the light, the better they look in my observation. I'm just a beginner, though.
Very practical, thanks.
Hey! with your small in home studio set up what lens do you shoot with? I am in the same situation with a small in home studio and am trying to figure out what lens to use. I also have a crop sensor camera so ill keep that in consideration
Plz
Explain in English or Hindi .Yeah! It's comfortable . Carry on and keep it up.Mine Name is Shameek dhar.I've gonna come from Kolkata West Bengal India
lmao small world but im pretty sure i just inspected a house for you in CT!
lol yes. Yes, you did.
A monolight and soft box brand not to expensive that you recommend ?
I can only recommend what I use. :)
Thanks a lot
It's a best ever clearly explains the light in a simpler way ., & Your works and tutorials are wowsome 👌👍👏😍
Wow lovely thanks
amazing
Thanks mate
damn this tutorial helped me out more than anyone I watched today about lighting. i wonder if a blank white wall would work for portraits. Keep in mind that i'm using a f/3.5-5.6 lens so if there are any imperfections it may not be blurred out, especially if the subject is close to the wall. other than that, would it work if i got the subject to move away from the wall?
Cool
Great video.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
this was dope. do you have any tips for shooting fashion in a big studio?
love it. thank you.
Very good, very helpful! Brother thank you soooo muchhhh. This helped tremendously. God bless! Liked, sub

cool video
Brilliant thank you 🙏
Nice❤
You're wrong, good sir. I do, in fact, have a mannequin head laying around at home. My mom used to be a hairdresser. We have a whole box of mannequin heads somewhere. Thank you for the cool information, this was sorely needed for a composite photo assignment in one of my art classes.
Thank you man.
Clutch!!!
How does this work with the sun outside? I can't move the sun around lol sorry if that's a dumb question
You may not be able to 'move the sun around', however you can move your subject and yourself
@adampriroda oh yeah I wrote this half a year ago, I've improved tremendously
@@wednesdaymonroe glad to hear thattt. thats nice
I surprisingly have all of those items at home 😂

This wasn't what I thought it would be I was hoping to learn how to use like to take better pictures / selfies but instead it seems to be about light and shadows.
Which would help you to take better pictures....
@@SAJORFFEJ but you don't explain what the shadows do you the overall photo. Like make an object seem smaller, larger etc
@@Joey-ms3xg My channel combines videos that cover various concepts and techniques related to lighting, which could make up an entire college curriculum. Use the info in this video with the lighting videos on my site, and you'll be on the right path! Best of luck!
