Leaders are by and large too self important and woke to take this on board. So is western media; which is why we are listening to this channel. Thank goodness it exists.
If we had actual leaders, rather than neo-liberal market force ideologues in charge, then they would already know all of this, and be acting on it. Instead, our electorates continue to put more of the same in power, because not only Russia's disinformation but our own consumerism keeps us from wanting to deal with the harsh realities of disruptors like Putin. What Putin calls our decadence, our weakness, and what he is relying on to bring him victory. I do wonder where a Churchill, a Roosevelt, or even a de Gaulle (!) might come from. Great interview. I really enjoyed how Dr Stradner was able to tie a lot of threads together. Id love a deep dive into Putin's ties to the middle east as it relates to the UAE hiring Wagner in Libya etc. In terms of Russian colonialism I like to point out that Russia was a signatory to the Great Act that arose from the Berlin Conference of 1884.. aka "the Scramble for Africa."
Dear Jonathan, our dear Jonathan, allow me to be "local patriot" now, for this brilliant, stellary brilliant Lady has spoken the very essence of wisdom on these troublesome times we all experience now. May She be heeded among the western leaders. Currently, EU has entered the pact with Serbian fascist leaders and one of Her crucial messages here is: Democracies should not enter compromises with totalitarian leaders. Thank You Jonathan for this precious conversation.
Auwtsj, this is probably your most painful interview I've seen up to now. Straight to the heart! Ivana Stradner is GOOD! Now, question: We are all discussing how to save democracy. Why are we not discussing how to destroy autrocacy?
This is not about hearts, feelings, emotions nor democracy. This is about the BRICS threatening the free us$ printer. It has been decided that the ferocious combat between Russian and us military industriel complexes and the competition between their respective currencies must be happening in ukraine. Now you can tell me who is the real aggressor!?
Should democratic countries be aiming to 'destroy' autocracy? Is autocracy universally unpopular? Is it universally bad (or otherwise worse than democracy) for the majority of citizens under it? Isn't there a clear difference between a leader like Putin, who is a clear threat to Russia's neighbours, and an 'autocrat' like Lee Kuan Yew, whose focus was essentially improving Singapore. When it comes to intervention aimed at bringing about democracy, the track record of 'The West' is mixed but has often been pretty dire. Promotion of democracy in ex-Soviet states has been relatively successful. But these are the neighbours of European states. They've kept the attention of The West because of this. There are clear, tangible benefits to promoting democracy here. When it comes to meddling further afield? Eh. I could see Afghanistan, even Iraq, having turned out differently BUT it would have required many, many years of effort, during which significantly greater resources would need to have been expended. E.g. the level of involvement the US showed, and continues to show, in Japan and South Korea. It's simply not realistic to expect this in more than a handful of strategically important countries. Hal- hearted interventions push the countries which suffer them, and those that can identify with them, away from democracy and The West. In most instances, I'd argue that a more effective approach would be to leave them alone politically and focus upon providing well targeted, meaningful aid, whilst doing something to get western countries in order. Stagnating, if not declining, living standards, the rise of populist types like Trump, Johnson and Le Pen, along with the instability they cause and are a symptom of, does very little to promote democracy.
Ivana really makes good points. One thing I might add that wasn’t said is that she strongly promotes democracy, and it is a great thing, but we should understand that the rule of law to support liberty is even more important than democracy. A dictator can be elected in a democracy. So the understanding of the principles of liberty and the laws to support and maintain liberty which includes the rights of the individual are even more important than the establishment of democracy. Perhaps when she promoted the rule of law (which is so vitally important) that is what she was talking about.
As much as the USA helping Ukraine, i feel like Americans dont seem to grasp how Ukraine downfall would gave changed the world. Ukraine actually served western civilisation and more should be done to help them survive
The election in US is very important. If US still want to enjoy democracy in the west, they must vote blue. Wether they like Biden or not. He will not be in office for so long, but at least he will be replaced with someone how cares about democracy. The other option is catastrophic for our way of living.
Now this person is, without a doubt, one of the most well-balanced strategic world thinkers alive today! Why have I just now discovered this gem? Don't let that pretty face fool you. She is brilliant, articulate, succinct, and grounded in reality. I will now follow her closely.

People like her should be the ones making policy, or at the very least assisting policy makers in the West to make wise decisions. She appears to be Polish or Ukrainian at least partially, she's definitely Slavic looking.
Extremely well thought out l, thank you for outlining Putin's mindset and his thinking around North Korea, threats to the West about the possibility of arming them and Iran.
Putin looked seriously ill during the meeting, heavily drugged and exhausted, which of course makes him weaker in every sense. The North Korean leaders exposed a heavy show, with a lot of imposing music, but in spite of being heavy, it also looked utterly primitive, not totally well coordinated and rather cheap. Most of the music were just repetitions of the same simple tonal and rhythmical phrases. Furthermore, everybody looked weak from starvation, except the political and military leaders.
greetings from germany. I am a bi in a bubble of people who swallow with pleasure what the kremlin delivers. I try to question that in a kind and subtle way. social mediais a demeritorical good in my view. there is more harm in it than gain, especially in free speech-societies. because bad actors abuse that massively.
"The West has forgotten how to speak to the Kremlin, while the Kremlin has mastered reading the Western mind." There you have it, folks. Most of the global security situation can be summed up with that one statement. Our enemies, in general, under us far better than we understand them.
Great explanation. Ukraine helped reveal many details about the evilness of rusian regime. Bulgaria seems to be prepared for something, but it is not on the world's information map.
Dr Stradner gave what I thought was a very good understanding of the situation, featuring a realist bent. As escalation management slips, we see the spill over into Asia with the rearming of NK. This is entirely unsurprising.
America, the land of the boldly ignorant. Thanks Jonathan, another brilliant interview with an integral guest. Love, Tracija Wrights, Latvian/Washingtonian
Naaa, like all things, in the US, Canada... with liberty, civic rights... comes the possibility of spectrums being everywhere, as opposed to the absolute supreme leader one point of view, hive mind, persistent fear... nope: Spectrums. If one tried to depict so called "American" culture, one must assess and compute all spectrums and represent them in real time and as woven into a mass too scary to even imagine, in authoritarian regimes. To use one qualificative to represent an infinity of morphing points of views and many things not even represented yet... is an exercise in futility, an insult to life itself. Being depicted as one thing doesn't make this depiction reality; grunt work to consider all things in real time might depict a much better picture and bring an understanding worthy of consideration. There are brilliant people, and people collaborate with other brilliant people, in "America" and is a sharp contrast to any and all autocratic regimes, and will always be the ideal of these anti-democratic regimes, wanting to have it all but through slavery, destruction, terror... a death cult. NK, CCP Land, Putin Land populations, the majority, is maintained absolutely ignorant by design. A little bit of this is quite true ass well in the West, as a spectrum, but the knowledge is available and protected; not systematically suppressed and replaced by fictions.

Over a thousand Russian soldiers a day are being killed or injured in Ukraine. Are Russians concerned at all? How long can Russia feed the military forces with men?
I saw a stat that only about 1% of Russian losses have come from Moscow & St. Petersburg!
@@waynegordon2628Exactly, Russia views non-Russians as bullet stoppers and cannon fodder. They send THOSE people to the meat grinder, forcing Ukraine to fight them.
@@waynegordon2628Putin refuses to draw from men there bc he fears it would ignite his overthrow.
I guess we lack Margareth Thatcher 2.0 concearning foreign polecy....
AMAZING she has explained profoundly the way Putin thinks, speaks to the West and operates against the liberal world order. Excelent thinker. I have learned a lot. BRAVO❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Thanks for the update and views 🇺🇲🇺🇦

Loved Irvana’s quip “with friends like Putin, who needs enemies”. Excellent guest, most insightful ❤
Spot on. This beautiful woman has bigger balls than our politicians.
Smart and beautiful lady. I’m in love
Tell me about it.
Would tear my knees in front of this brilliant , stellar Lady, proposing on Her.
She is a beautiful lady, inside and out.....I would be very surprised if she's not married to a guy worthy of her. She has amazing eyes.
Oh god yes !
Excellent. YOU i trust . I will follow you. Слава Украiiнi !
Intelligent woman are ❤❤❤
I am very impressed with Dr. Stradner, she knows what she's talking about, and she is also a very charming lady. I hope she will be a guest again in the future. People like her should be the ones making policy, or at the very least assisting policy makers in the West to make wise decisions. She appears to be Polish or Ukrainian at least partially, she's definitely Slavic looking.
Convincing analysis.
A Key Takeaway point from you Ivana is Putin is not a military guy, he is a KGB guy.
It’s good to see you , Eamonn ! 🤗
One only needs to listen to fox news to realize that they are receiving the things that they broadcast from Russian intelligence
And the audience is caught in the net of Putin.
They don’t know, until they are forced to obey and clap their hands. 😢
Great interview.
Extremely well thought out l, thank you for outlining Putin's mindset and his thinking around North Korea, threats to the West about the possibility of arming them and Iran.
Here endeth the lesson. Even Jonathan looked uneasy with the truth.
What Ivana says makes a lot of sense as I have read the book 'The Narrow Corridor' by Acemoglu and Robinson.
I really hope this lady speaks to government leaders and policy makers.
She does, fortunately.
You are willing to risk nuclear annihilation, for Ukraine? Psychotic.
I hope the CIA and MI5 are watching this for tips on new necessary initiatives
30:35 Pro-Democracy political groups MUST MERGE!! UNITE!! Do we want democracies as much as Fascists want absolute power???
Slava Ukraine. From Indonesia.
One smart lady. ❤
"The West has forgotten how to speak to the Kremlin, while the Kremlin has mastered reading the Western mind." There you have it, folks. Most of the global security situation can be summed up with that one statement. Our enemies, in general, under us far better than we understand them.
We in the West better be listening to this and learn from it
At about 20:42, I just want to give a shout-out to Ms. Stradner's PROPER use of the "could not care less" formulation. THANK YOU! lol
More like arrogantly ignorant.
heck, this is a right old word salad
