Renowned Urdu poet, Prof. Waseem Barelvi, born Zahid Hussain on February 18, 1940, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, stands as a towering figure in the realm of Urdu literature. After completing his M.A. in Urdu literature from Agra University in 1958, he embarked on a journey that would see him become not only an acclaimed poet but also an influential educator. Rising from the ranks of Assistant Professor to Associate Professor & Head of Urdu Dept at Bareilly College, Barelvi's passion for Urdu poetry remained undiminished. His contributions to the literary landscape earned him prestigious positions, including Vice Chairman of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Throughout his illustrious career, Barelvi's poetry has graced numerous literary magazines across India, Pakistan, and beyond, capturing hearts with its depth and resonance. His verses, including those from celebrated collections like "Tabassum-e-Gham" and "Mausam Andar Bahar Ke," have been immortalized through musical renditions by eminent singers of the Indian Film Industry. With a plethora of accolades, including the "Firaq Gorakhpuri International Award" and the "Naseem-e-Urdu Award," Barelvi's legacy as a poet par excellence continues to enrich the Urdu literary tradition.
