Y’all should watch Stro Elliot live drumming on his Push for Jazzy Jeff on a Dilla tribute. Multiple different hats, kicks, snare rolls on different pads help create a live drum kit sound and swing!

JFilt, I'm a mouse clicker lol. Maybe in the future I'll start experimenting with hardware, but for now, moving the blocks around like Tetris has been working for me.

Definitely try hardware my dude. You get into a groove when your bangin' away on the pads or on keys... I feel like you connect with the music better that way.

I create ghost notes by building out a drum pattern and layering it with one or two drum breaks.

So, I suffer from my wrists and thumbs getting fatigued really easily after heavy mixing sessions.
Lately I've been rocking with the regular Mouse on my dominant hand and then a track ball on the left of the keyboard.
Between The Mouse and the phone and the tablets are dominant hands have too much to do. I really like the trackball mouse on the left-hand side so you can have more of a balanced approach physically.
    That's all. Make that magic!

I keep it old school. I just quantize the drums and snare(maybe) but leave the hats and other percussions unquantized.

Weapon of choice is MPC live 2. I started on DAWs years ago with Reason, but I definitely prefer pads over keys. The MPCs limitations spark creativity for me.

Nice. I'm old school too, brother. I prefer finger drumming as well. I feel like I can relay more feeling in the patterns that way. I also picked up on the note repeat process style from watching producer Zaytoven on the MPC. I have never really been a fan of drawing lines on the screen in the DAW. To each his/her own though. Just make good music. :) Peace
