My Grandmother used to babysit Ritchie in Pacoima and my father actually played in his high-school band with him!! Ritchie is a legacy in our family!! ❤ Sadly missed everyday.😢
I remember Richie in Pacoima Jr High school. We had a math class together, and I remember when he would be dressed in khaki pants and white T- shirt. That was many years ago.whenever I hear his songs, especially, La Bamba it takes my mind back. His life ended way too soon. That was a sad day when we heard the news. I remember the other two as well. I would sing their songs all the time, as a teenager. their short lives and contribution will never be forgotten!
I heard that Buddy took him under his wing and the two of them even discussed working on future projects together. Can you only imagine how amazing that would have been? RIP to all 3 of them and to the pilot Roger Peterson. 😓
that’s a lie buddy never took him under his wing ritchie wasn’t suppose to fly in the first place ritchie asked buddy holly’s guitar player for the seat and they flipped a coin and richie called heads and they went on, idk about the projects tho
You're misinformed. Frankie Sordo confirmed that Buddy was treating Ritchie as a younger brother on the tour. Buddy had some experience and rightly so might have looked at Ritchie and recognised a humble guy who he could pour into.
It’s also been said that Ritchie played drums behind Buddy for a gig because his regular drummer got frostbite on that raggedy bus. Buddy supposedly returned the favor and played behind Ritchie so maybe they were building a friendship.
Always live richie valens your songs comes from the heart and yours words hurt too much man only people who knows pain will love your music and also your song gives happiness to people too real great artist
I am such a huge fan of Ritchie Valens and I adore his music. Ritchie's voice is phenomenal and his songs are mesmerizing. I could listen to Ritchie sing all day long. Thank you Valenzuela family for sharing your Ritchie to the world. I am truly sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Ritchie. You are never forgotten.
That is so awesome that you are related to him. I've been a huge fan all of my life. Please let your family know his impact on music is still felt today. He was a true pioneer of the rock n roll sound and has inspired me to pursue my dreams. LONG LIVE EL REY...
Give them my greetings too, I'm from Belgium and have been intrigued by Richie ever since La Bamba. Lost my brother in a motorcycle accident so I can understand their grief. He was really awesome, my dad remembers the day the music died.

thanks so much for this. I just utubed an hour ago on his demo recordings and was blown away on how advanced he was as a guitar player for his age..he had an old soul for somone so young. and you could hear his heart through his lyrics..one of a kind and there will never be another...
for his stardom only lasted 8 months Ritchie Valens become a big star to only get cut down in a plane crash , & of all the pictures i have seen of him to be only 17 when he died , he looked like he was at least 24-25 years old , hard to believe it has been 65 years
18 years old! This young man made it, and at that age in 1958 being raza tambien, utter reverence for this man, more than half a century later, absolutely marvelous!
After 61+ years of buying, listening to and some playing music. It feels Great when someone young (15 to 35) tells me they Listen to the Greatest music Ever the "50"and"60"
first time i heard of Ritchie Valens was in 1983 I was 8 years old at the time & the song was Donna my parents had a an 8-track called teen idols & Donna was on it & I liked it back then & it is my favorite Ritchie Valens song
I was 9 when Buddy Richie and the Big Bopper died in the plane crash. My Sister and my friends sisters. Were crying. I didn't quite understand my mom told me about the guys I saw Richie on the Dick Clark Bandstand. He sang Donna. I could relate to the Song..I had a cousin name Donna. I would sing Donna to her. It was bothering me For awhile. 17yrs old had a great music career. Patsy Cline's death by pilot error man . have never been in a plane.
Luis Velarde Oh yeah, I forgot about that...it's forbidden to change history if you go back in time because you can really EFF up the future! LOL! Good point! Touche!
Why does this happen!😢😭😭😭 those young people brought joy to many people when they sang and Richard Vanesula didn’t even finish high school! It was the first coin toss he ever won...
the first & last coin toss , he won , now the way the movie portrayed it was wrong , I say saw in an interview with Tommy Allsup the guy who lost the coin toss , story goes he & Ritchie were talking & Ritchie said he wanted to fly out that night so he could get some laundry done for later , so Tommy pulled a coin out of his pocket & told Ritchie to call it when he flipped it & Ritchie called heads & won
Good video!! I have loved Ritchie Valens music since I saw La Bamba when I was 14. I had learned of his tragic death a few years before the movie came out and have always been intrigued by his life story. I highly recommend buying the CD "Ritchie Valens Rockin' All Night", this disc has hit after hit!! Bottom line, when you really listen to Valens' music, this kid fu##ing rocked it man, and his guitar playing was, get ready, right up there with greats like Hendrix, Krieger, Clapton, Harrison, etc.

To know that his best friend died after a plane crashed and a part of the plane hit and killed him so he was deathly afraid of planes makes this even more sad!
Yes Donna, I remember when he wrote that song about you. It was a beautiful song just for you! 😊 I don't recall, but were you attending the same school? The song was played on the radio all the time. I remember when he would come into class a few minutes late sometimes, his seat was a few seats in front of me. There was another guy that use to perform in the auditorium that looked a bit and sounded like Elvis. He was a good performer, but I don't think he became a professional entertainer. There were a few others that I grew up with and knew their families well. They became professional football and baseball players. I'm a senior now, but I still have a pretty good memory of my teen years and the good old days.
Thanks for sharing :) I really enjoyed this video, just Fantastic!!! I always wonder the story with Donna, I watched the movie and know a bit of what happen, but I always wondered, what really happen, and how she dealt with this tragedy.. Wonderful young man, I know he loved and helped his Mom a lot..

It's a shame that today's "artists" don't have half the talent of classic performers.
True today artist sucks no talent in singing and no music sense also
And it's like they keep getting worse 😭
Today’s artists aren’t even artists anymore

Yeah, he was just a boy and still had the time to write all these songs.
Just seeing his pictures I can sense the type of person he was. He seemed so pleasant to be around, genuine, and kind Rest In Peace Richie
