As a kid my stepdad had season tickets to all of those Ram home games. Watching this RUclips highlight film was thrilling for me. I had so many favorite players on that team including Tom Wilson, Jon Arnett, Les Ricthter, Del Shofner, Lama Lundy, and more. Can’t recall the year Lundy switched to defense. Thanks for the memories.
After this season the Rams traded ten players for Ollie Matson(Cardinals). Matson is a Hall of Fame running back but he never, unsurprisingly, justified the trade . The trade tore the heart out of the Rams' organization. They didn't have another winning season until 1966 in George Allen's first year as head coach.. Incidentally, the GM who engineered the trade was Pete Rozelle.
That 1958 squad to this day is one of my favorite Rams teams along with the 1967, 1999, and 2021 teams. Why Dan Reeves allowed Rozelle to make this deal will always be a mystery. But then those were the days of a house divided because Reeves needed several partners to help with financing and the back-stairs politicking between the partners no doubt contributed to this tragedy and I think Rozelle was just a handy yes-man who ended up engineering the deal to please his bosses.
@@KarlBeeThree Billy Wade set a Rams' team record for passing yards in 1958 that stood until broken by Vince Ferragamo in the early eighties . In 1962 Wade set the Bears' team record for yardage in a season until broken by Jim McMahon in the early eighties as well.
@kevinmadden1645 , The Rams were declining regardless. Matson certainly didn't provide a solution to that, but it's pretty hyperbolic to say the Cardinals reaped much of a benefit, let alone stealing the 'heart' of the Rams. They got two solid linemen, who performed at league average for several years each, but otherwise the players they received (or acquired as a result) were garbage. C'mon, this is the Cardinals we're talking about. Both teams (well, mostly Rozelle, as the agitator) would've been best advised to have forgotten the whole thing and kept their rosters as they were.
One change I noticed, you can see the infield dirt and pitchers mound at the Coliseum as the Dodgers played their first year here(actually thru 1961)after they moved from Brooklyn.
The final win against the Packers left GB with the worst record in the NFL at 1-10-1. This would be Scooter McLean's last game as Packer coach. Vince Lombardi would be coming in 1959 to start a new chapter in the fortunes of GB.
Wonderful upload!!! I never knew that Lamar Lundy was a receiver before becoming a member of the Fearsome Foursome a few years later under George Allen.

Both of these teams initially played in Cleveland. The Browns came from a totally different league.
it is amazing the Rams would trade Del Shofner to the Giants, thanks
28:40 Rookie guard Jerry Kramer at the end of a disastrous 1-10-1 season. There would be better days ahead.
