I agree with you, It's really sad they need to be first in line to get destroyed, At least after all of that they still have those vics strong and going today. They do need the explorers, chargers, taurus' *etc* to stay in a financial standpoint so they don't end up being the first ones destroyed but they're the newest.
And in the 1980's they did the same with all the AMC Matadors in storage near Chinatown. IIRC LAPD picked up a number of those notorious 1979 Dodge St Regis clunkers with the smogged 318s for use as beaters as well.

98-02 crown vics are still pretty common. They're mostly used by people new to the job, or people that frequently patrol smaller, less dangerous, areas of the city.
That’s because over here in the Uk we are a lot less likely to be moving at quick speeds and the vans are better for our small streets. Like 2 vans is a street blocked whereas if they did the same over there it’d be like 3-4 vans for a street

I’m guessing they had those markers so that it’s easier for officers to identify their vehicles, since there were lots of emergency vehicles at the protests. As well as probably being another way to assign each vehicle to each jurisdiction during the mass protests.
its a large city, large suburbs, large area, they need alot of these, especially because cities are big hotspots for drug deals, speeding, etc. cops have this many to try to keep crime out and ppl safe on the roads.
