Welcome to the world of FAKE NEWS! What they don’t know, they’ll make up! They start with a preconceived notion and no matter what, they’ll twist that narrative. Bob was painting a picture that didn’t fit that narrative so they had to twist it. FAKE NEWS doesn’t just apply to politics.
@Zia Smith yeah but... Some homeless might be ' poor' but a lot are happy & they have everything they need. Lots of rich looking people are in debt millions of dollars & never happy. I'd rather everyone be broke & need to work for things.
But many don’t choose it....living, sleeping in a small car and peeing in a jar and pooping in a trash bag...is not what most people would choose if they had better options. They are as close to homeless as you can get...and still have something over their head....it’s good they have figured out a way, with the help of people like Bob, to do it somewhat safely and know where to go and what resourses are out there
Zia Smith, you’ll get no argument from me about inequality and the housing crisis. I didn’t mean to appear insensitive to people who have no choice in these matters; I was commenting solely on the statement that Robin made concerning the woman who made a particular choice because she can do so.
@Zia Smith - I'm highly confident the US doesn't have the biggest gap. Take one look at Brazil. There is still a solid middle class in the US. The sickness of which you speak is worldwide and many countries are struggling similarly OR worse than the US.
You're fabulous! I'm a 67 yr old woman living in an RV full time. I'm not well off financially, but I'm rich in freedom and the beauty of America. Thank you for your words.
Gotta admit I'm never going to take to the road in an RV, but I'm strangely obsessed with RUclips videos about RVers. And I admire you folks! You've chosen a life on your own terms and that's wonderful! Please don't think everyone believes you're all misfits or sad vagabonds. You look like you're having a lot of fun to me!
Same. But I do have a small pop up camper that I have started camping in occasionally. It's kind of rough but there's also so many pretty places to stay at. I took my kids with me once and they were afraid people would think we were homeless when we stopped to get food. I told them not to care what people think. Lots of people travel in RV's now and just b/c there are a ton of run down RV's that park along a lot of the city streets and basically live there, that's the world we live in. I'm grateful for YT b/c it shows many people are CHOOSING to live on the road. They don't necessarily have to. I'm pretty obsessed w/ these videos and this life although I know with my family, I can't live it full time. I'm also pretty addicted to my creature comforts of home. But hey, summer is here so let's travel and have some fun!
Same here. I'm sitting here in my 1450 SF house watching videos of RVing and vanlife as I do a lot. I live alone and don't even use all of my house. I feel like I have too much space and stuff. I would never sell my house because it's almost paid for and houses nowadays have gotten so expensive that I'd have a hard time affording another one, but I would love to have some type of travel vehicle to start traveling and seeing the country in.
Wanna hear something really weird? Already doing the van thing but I've become obsessed with videos about cruises. I'm never going to be someone who really needs to go on cruises (except maybe to Alaska) but it is kind of fascinating
I'm 53 and I'm giving myself 2 to 3 more yrs then I'm selling my house and getting an RV. since my husband died 3 yrs ago I feel like I don't belong anywhere. we always wanted to do this when we retired, he never got the chance and I'm not just gonna stay here and rot. I'm gonna get out and see things and live in an RV. I wanna be free and happy
Hey I have learned so much from Bob. But face it: he is UNAPOLOGETICALLY the guy in a van down by the river. He was driven to van life because of dire circumstances. Thank God! Because he has completely changed the face of the nomad demographic: proving that if you are down to nearly nothing, you can find a POSITIVE way to live a quality life and live within your means. I know a lot of people who are days/weeks from being in the streets, or those 'forced' to live in their vehicles. I refer them straight to Bob's videos and tell them: "it's not necessarily a bad thing. With a change of mindset you can actually live in incredible life out of your vehicle!!" Bob is an inspiration!
GM Jones Did you not hear Bob’s story? The 1st time he lived in a van was after a divorce. He quickly found he was actually happier. Eventually he remarried, moved back into a house, hated it, and went back to van life. Claiming it was a dire situation is like saying making any sort of financial decision is a dire situation 🤦♂️
@@joleezanes5938 yes I did, which is why I wrote what I wrote. after his divorce he discovered this way of life. And thanks to that situation, he has helped remove the stigma of living in your vehicle. Now it can be seen as a choice, not a sign of failure.
Bob Wells is so beautiful because he is always helping someone. What a hero spirit. That to me is much more interesting than Instagram perfection. I believe a higher consciousness is emerging that sees with hearts instead of ego.
I bought a house and tried that lifestyle.. I now am spending the last two months of my apartment lease renovating my camper van, because I'm a self employed entrepreneur & I can do whatever I damn well please❤ Thank you for speaking your truth!
Owning a house as a single female was horrible for me. For myself, traveling isn't the answer but that so called American dream is not for many. It's just a burden.
knit1purl1 Also, many people would like to have a tiny house but the zoning laws keep you from having one wherever you want. A van or truck camper seems to be the easiest to convert into a home on wheels.
Great land of liberty....if you want to be liberal with your schedule so your boss can over work you because your work ethic is better than 80% of the people around you. My wife works for a huge insurance company and there are people who get promotions and such who dont do anything. Then when the (*&^ hits the fan who do they run too... My buddy works 10-12 hours a day 4-5 days a week at amazon depending on the season, and he still can barely make ends meet because they raise his rent every year. How are you supposed to save up and get a house? Its rigged. Not conspiracy theory rigged. Just, those companies want to make more and more money. And in turn so does your grocer and your land lord. It sucks. No matter where it is as soon as there is a bit more money adjustments are made and your right back to grinding and wondering if youll ever be above water or will you flail about the rest of your life just for gasps of air!
@@seecanon5840 ---uh oh, sounds like a conspiracy! Seriously, you sound like a paranoid person. I'm not saying you're the ONLY one, many of the big media haters have made it clear here that they trust few outlets ... but I just don't understand this whining about it. Hold newspeople & news organizations ACCOUNTABLE! If you find discrepancies, let them know! Only with researched, calm public participation can we hold "the news" to a higher standard. The media is there to serve US, not the other way 'round. Now ... if you tell me the only news you trust is Fox or MSNBC, I know you're not serious about getting rid of "spin." LOL
I watched the video and I think Bob did a great job of representing the lifestyle. It isn’t a lifestyle for everyone, but I am glad to see people talking about it in terms of choice. No matter how the media might portray people who choose a nomadic life, our individual experiences will be exactly what we make them. I choose happy! Thanks for the video. 😎
My husband and I are full time RVers because of Bob Wells's wonderful educational videos about how to be able to travel and not have the headache of maintaining a house somewhere. We've been doing this for over 3 years now and we're loving it.
Exactly, I'm also 57, have been thinking about RV living in a Class B campervan for the past year. After paying off bills, I would continue to work seasonal hospitality jobs on the road for places like Grand Canyon, Yellowstone or work virtually on my laptop. So tired of paying high rent and car payments for what...my time and money is never my own.
I don't care what the average people or society thinks of the RV life. I'm 57 and loving my RV life. And I have a very nice RV , I look at it is our little secret to happiness!
Thank you Robin for coming to Bob's defense. I too thought it was wrong the way they mis characterized him. He had spent the whole of his nomadic life trying to educate people and let them understand that there is a better way of life. Hes a God send to people like me on disability that don't get very much a month. And that comment by the broadcaster after spending one night in a Van that he needed a shower came across As saying that this is a dirty life we live. I really took offense to that remark. Kudos to you Robin for setting the record straight.
You are right Robin. When I spoke with an insurance person, a nurse who is doing supplemental insurance now for retirees, about being sure my medicare supplemental ins and drug coverage was good anywhere in US if I full time RVing. Her first question: But where is your house? I sold it but I will have a physical address to use and a mailing service. She cut the conversation short with "You aren't going to pay taxes and vote?" Automatically assuming bum status avoiding taxes. I said NO I will be paying all my taxes and voting. I am a retired Nurse Practitioner. But thank you. You are not the person I need to speak with! This person was clueless and I agree about TV interview. Loved Bob in the interview but was disappointed in that coverage. You see it heading in a negative direction. My Unity RV finally coming in August. So no, I will have a very nice home, uninformed insurance lady. As I found out my health coverage is good and I have my RV insurance lined up with Nationwide, willing to cover me as full-time RVer where others were not.
Janice I am also a Rn Currently working in the hospital setting. I cannot believe she acted like that toward you. Unbelievable. My hubby & I bought our first 5th wheel last April. I live in it while I’m working in west Texas on a 3 year contract. I couldn’t be happier. My hubby wants land and a house and I want to full time RV. I just don’t want to be weighed down with all that that entails. I’m so happy & jealous of those of you that are doing the nomad life. I wish I had bought an RV sooner.
Great to know there are insurance carriers out there that support the RV life. There is another RUclipsr named Rusty who explains what the options are for older folks that have been full time RV’ers and want to stay in one place. There is mobility and food delivery assistance, which is awesome. So, sticks and bricks are completely overrated.
Exactly! THIS is why the stigma effects us. It doesn't "hurt our feelings" because, who cares about that? It hurts our ability to bank, get insurance, register, etc. Plus, it gives the regular populous the idea they should fear us or ban us.
The person you spoke to was the exact opposite of the one I got, who told me it sounded like an awesome thing to do! Some people aren't happy, so they get it all over the rest of us. Just put on your poncho and let it roll right off!
This is a great video. We are all influenced by our situations at a particular time. My nomading only lasted 6 months and it was not in a van or RV. But I am so glad we did it. We got to know wonderful people and we saw the US all the way around. We were 21, on our honeymoon & so we took our guitars & $50 and sang in bars, passing the hat and just to meet folks and see what our country was about back then. I can truly say that that trip was one of the high points of my life and I am now 81 and full of arthritis, so that life style isn't for me. Thanks for your commentary. Enjoy. Oakland 2021
LOVED your story! I, too, deal with arthritis, etc. now, but am SO glad my husband and I got to travel so much when we were younger. I'm not sitting here sad because I missed out. Now, when I see TV or video showing all their wonderful trips, I just smile and think "Yep, been there, done that and it was fun!"
Get your self on vitamins. I have arthritis but don’t feel it when on vitamins. I take women’s multi- vitamins, D3, a lot of D3, fish oil, vitamin C and vitamin B 12 complex. I barely feel my arthritis. I don’t have restless leg syndrome anymore. Talk to your doctor bought vitamins.
You tell ‘em sister!!!! When my wife and I told our families we were selling everything and going to RV full time, we had someone ask “are you being evicted? Why didn’t you pay your rent?!”....because God forbid we CHOSE to downsize and work remotely so we can enjoy adventures while we’re still young enough to go!!!!! Thank you for speaking up for all of us! Keep it up 😘
I worked in tv for 18 years. This is what tv always does. A quick surfacey glance and on to the next topic. It’s called infotainment, light on the info heavy on the tainment.
Your comments are dead on, BUT you are waisting your energy. TV producers have their own agenda. They don't take time to listen to those that have been living the life successfully.
YUP! I'm a 62 yr old female who fits your stated demographic. Yes I lost my job but I was in no way destitute as a result of it. I had a home with 22 yrs of equity in it and had planned to get an rv 3 yrs from now when it was paid off and go fulltime. My timeline just got bumped up. I knew that even when I retired (3 yrs from now) there was no way I could maintain the house on my small pension and social security w/o continuing to work. There were many other economic factors in my area that went into my decision. The stars were not only aligning... THEY SPELLED OUT - SELL NOW! So I am fortunate to have sold my house and have no debt and live off a small pension till my SS kicks in at full benefits. I'm also extremely fortunate to be HEALTHY! So maybe I am a mixed bag of" Glamping down by the river," but even with history making storms and rainfall since I started in March, I am finding my way and enjoying it. All journalists put their " spin" on stories now instead of just presenting the facts and letting the viewer make up their own mind. Glad to see you call them out on it.
Thank you for saying exactly what I have been feeling the past 2 years. Thank you for being a voice for us and for all the assistance you have provided the nomadic communities. 🙂
I call Portland, Oregon home. I absolutely agree about how we work, live, and pursue a minimalist lifestyle. I choose to live in a 60 sq.ft. DIY converted 2018 van full-time and I LOVE it. Like you, I sold my house to partially fund my dream. We can craft a life that works for us. I am glad you posted this.
Hi Diana, I’ll be moving into my van tomorrow and will be in the Salem and Portland area for a few months. Do you have any tips for finding overnight places to stay? Thanks, Joy
Hello Joy, and congratulations and welcome! There is ton of BLM space on Mt. Hood. In the metro area, there are rest stops on I-5, just south of Canby exit, north and south that are very nice. Near Battle Ground, there are rest stops with fresh water and a dump station. I use them whenever I'm in the area. I hope that helps.
Robin, I've been on the road for 3 years and during that time I have met the best folks who really care. A genuine person is like finding a gold nugget, very rare and very valuable. Thanks for speaking for the rest of us, well said indeed.
@Runner Girlin your opinion. How many people have you talked to you? How young are you? Have you ever met someone like the woman who did the video? What is the norms for this modern-day society are not the same as it once was and I am sick of having to put up with the BS! It seems the Nature-loving people are just friendlier and a lot more Christain acting from my point. Just continue living Runner and growing because 30 years from now you will view things differently and for the better, I am sure
@Runner Girl You look like the woman who did the video. This statement " It IS deficient - it shows you cannot live within society's norms - you cannot make it!" didn't seem to match the message I got out of the video. I am 70 as well, first District Manager for the Circulation Department of the Detroit News now retired. Hey, I've seen a lot of losers in my life also and they all lived in houses. LOL So glad you are working at 70 but I am also happy that I don't have too. I am able to live this new vacation as both a retirer and as a responsible adult on that downward slope to death instead of paying someone else's house off & being stationary. You seemed to be talking about the homeless. I wasn't. Happy trails to you
@Runner Girl LOL my credit is good and my nest egg is big enough. It's an adventure to me. I am excited. I was defective until Jesus did what he did for me and now I am free to live my life more abundantly, notwithstanding your judgment of me, a total stranger, as the world keeps turns thank goodness. My best to you.
I live in a RV and I love it. It's cheaper and keeps you from collecting things you don't need. I choose to live this way. I am not rich and RV life is awesome.
May I ask: do you mean an RV like what we think of, manufactured by an RV company? Is it cheaper because you boondock-or what kind of places do you mostly stay? are you moving all over the US or mostly stay in a few places for a long time? Do you have a channel?
The conclusion of their piece was decided long before they spoke with Bob or anyone else. Truth telling is not on their minds in any way shape or form why Bob or anyone else would expect anything else is beyond me.
@@johnmal5975 yeah I don't think it was a lack of truth, what they represented is out there. The story just didn't show all of what is out there. The thing about getting a good story is you have to first educate yourself enough on the subject to even know what questions to ask. Bob is well know for representing the down and out who are on disability and small Social Security payments, so of course that became an obvious focus and the Instagram factor became the other. If they told the whole story it would not be a segment it would be the whole show!
Did you see the guys tone and body language Jody? It was a joke. The man was literally laughing at him if you couldn't read the smugness I can not help you. That is why people like Debbie said what she said. *HOW ABOUT A COMPLETE LACK OF RESPECT* The other thing he did was leave out information on people who are very capable and prosperous doing this that in essence is lying. The viewer did not get a complete story reporter failed. He was more interested in being a sarcastic dimwit and going about his personal agenda of degrading these people.
YOU are AWESOME! Loved your comments and SOOOO GLAD TO HEAR IT! I remember the anger I felt every time the news would report on an RV fire where folks were parked along a road with other RVers. They made it sound like those who live in RVs are dangerous fire bugs and "we need to protect our communities from these dangerous people!" I would sit there and fume as I thought about the house fires that were reported on, by the same network, who would offer their condolences and compassion for the unfortunate souls who lost their homes, belongings, and sometimes loved ones. It left viewers with the idea, "Those who have house fires aren't dangerous and deserve our respect and compassion. Those who have RV fires are lowlifes who endanger themselves and our communities and should be punished." Oh yeah, your words couldn't have come a better time. THANK YOU
I really appreciate this video. I think you hit the nail on the head. Everybody has a different goal and dream. Everybody has a different living situation, and those situations change as we go through life. Society would love to put us all in a box but it doesn't work that way. I like to think of life as a continuum that changes constantly. I grew up in a barn, yes, a real barn that was "sort of" converted into a house.....not really, lol. My wife grew up in a chicken shack. We now both live in a doublewide on 10 acres, our dream property. We always dreamed of building a stick built home because that's what society tells us to do. That home will cost an additional $300,000 to build, which makes me sick to my stomach and robs my joy for life. I love the idea of getting back to my roots and building a tiny home in the back of our 36x48 pole barn. Not because we can't afford the big home but because, like you said, "we choose to do it", and like Bob says, "it's freedom vs. comfort". Watching videos like yours and seeing you live in an rv full time makes me ask, "Why can't I, with a family of 4, live comfortably in something 1200 square feet in the back of a shop and actually be able to afford it and feel good about it?" The answer is that there is nothing holding me back except for my fear of what society will think. That's it! thanks for your inspiration. PS: I'd love to do the van life thing but I think my wife would kill me while having 2 kids tagging along, lol.
Yes! Why do we allow definitions and being boxed. We are all unique and I hope in the future there is more support for individualism. Good for you and your family, I’m right behind you, looking for land as we speak for our next step after living in the RV for a year or maybe more - only God knows!
You must have pulled the first one. I’ll watch it again. I think this is well said. The show hosts were jerks. Bob did a great job. It’s too bad you can’t get this out to CBS. There was a RUclips video on this segment. The comments were very favorable towards Bob.
N Foss Ahhh, but she can get this to CBS! I took the liberty of emailing it to them right after I watched it. It would be terrific if all of us who commented here copy that link and sent it into CVS, I’m betting it would have them address the issue again and from a different perspective and hopefully with Robin as a representative for the community
Absolutely 💯 correct!!! I'm a 65 year old single woman. I've been on the road fulltime for 3 years now. I sold my home and business to do this! I planned for 2 years so I would understand the ups and downs. It has been wonderful. I've been across country 4 times and I'm not ready to settle down yet. You are right and they were just making a show, not really reporting on anything.
Great talk. We retired and lived in a 41' fifth wheel for 8 years. Camp hosted some, traveled some, overnighted at Walmart and Pilot some, and gate guarded in Texas for 3 1/2 years. Didn't boondock but lived a wonderful fulfilling life and absolutely loved it. We stopped to help our kids with some things and not sure if we will go back on the road. We would love to but being older it might not work for us. What you can see and do as you travel in an RV is so great. We met so many other full timers that were fulfilling their dreams in different ways. Keep up the good word we enjoy your videos so much.
Thank you for this video!!! My husband and I chose to sell our 4000 sq ft 120+ year old Victorian home in 2015 and moved into our 36ft motorhome. Best decision ever!!! We are currently stationary, but vacation as much as possible. We are hitting the road in about 2 yrs when hubby retires and we sell our business. We no longer want to "own" a house and we want a more fulfilling life! Love your videos!
I can afford to live in my apartment, but that's all. I can't afford to do anything else. I would like to do more with my life than sit at home. I know a lot of people would say, "Get a higher paying job. Work harder" (which is implying that I don't work hard already). But I say "Work Smarter, not Harder."
@C Burgess I not a complete homebody. I get out as often as I can. Either walking down by the river or driving up to the lake when I can. I've also taken the painting outside. Whether it's over at the lake or at one of my local cemeteries. I would like to go see my dad and step mom, but they live three states away..
For 7 years, I worked at an organization who constantly harped on everyone to "work smarter, not harder" while simultaneously overworking employees. One day, after a particularly pointless and futile exercise, I finally grasped the concept and knew exactly what I had to do. So I quit.
You can do anything you set your mind d to. But it starts with being positive and having confidence in you. Go out there and do it. It's waiting for you. Start today
I lived the working Nomadic life for the last 25 plus years. I have been off the road almost 2 yrs and my addiction is pulling me back out on the road again so yes I have a major addiction and it's called sunrise and sunset just can't get enough.
Thank you for this video! We are in the process of selling our 2500sq ft house to live in an RV fulltime with two toddlers, two dogs, and a cat... Not because we have to, but because we realized that experiences and memories are more important to us than things. We are excited and we are so thankful for your knowledge and encouragement! 🤗
Thank you for standing up to CBS's glossed over incomplete report. It is amazing that they don't realize it really is no different then people who choose to change jobs and move often, people who live in RVs are just taking their jobs on the road, or there retirement, and their life. By the way my husband said it, "you either live to work and nothing more, or you work to live the life you want". It is a choice and some people are just jealous. Me included, I have purchased the RV for when I retire, then I am going to be that Nomad, down by every river I can see, park by, fish in, etc. Lead the way, I will follow....🚙 (My daughter told my grandchildren that I bought a retirement home, lol, my RV). Thank you for always being interesting and passionate about the RV life style, and to Bob.
Spot on! I CHOSE to move into my van 2 years ago and I'm so glad I did! I had a house that I was dumping money into. I was working full time and just spinning my wheels. I was in Minnesota where I had lived all of my 57 years. I hated the weather. The desert had been calling me since 2005 so i decided to answer it. I'm currently loving life in my van in New Mexico working full time still. I'm planning on retiring at 62 and then traveling. Best decision ever! My only regrets are I can't stand up in my van and I wish I would have done it sooner. Great video girl! 💖💜💖
Nice to read your comment. I've trucked 46 yrs all over 49 states and all of Canada. Ppl have called me the human map. As I've been pretty much everywhere. Alone. I too am in Minnesota. Wanted to be a trucking snow bird. But never worked out. I'm 64 this state messed up my CDL erased it. I think it was that MnLars. Retired now. Debating to join the nomads . As i trucked too much. No real friends to so anything with them. Strange feeling. No family or close ppl. Ones i had. Stole from me or ripped me off. Got things ove got to straighten out. From lack of being at an empty house. Boondocking in a van. Be about the same as living in a semi. Without the trlr. Lots of places I've seen. But no time to stop and look around. Use to see rvs in truck stops. They had no clue where to go. I'd give them ideas. Couldn't believe theyd stay in a noisy truck stop. Guess I will see what happens this year. Last winter was brutal. Others ripped me off on my sleds and fish house. So guess I don't need to be here.
I love and appreciate Bob Wells! Thanks for standing up for him. His videos totally helped me be able to build my wonderful camper-van, which has been on my "Bucket list" for some time! I am not a nomad currently, but, maybe some day! I love having the freedom of wheels to take me where ever I want to go, (esp weekend getaways!), and being able to stop and relax or sleep when ever I feel the need to! Just adds great options to an already awesome life.
If it weren't for Bob Wells doing his "Cheap RV Living"; I'd feel obligated to do it myself. We're better off with Bob doing the work; I don't know how to do computer stuff!
Robert Webb ~ I was gonna say exactly the same!! 😁 I’ve got one more year until I’m free. I hope to never look back. I’ll never forget what that woman said in the documentary where I first met Bob and found out about nomadic living. “I mowed the lawn for thirty years. For WHAT??!!” 😆🤣 I was sold right there.
@@TheFuzzieWuzzie OMGoodness! I looked at that video AGAIN today; it's so inspiring. I too, will be retiring next year and "cutting the cord" from corporate America, homeownership, living my life on anyone else's terms, etc., etc. What a day of rejoicing that will be 😃😍😂!
@@pakliv3243 they have composting toilets and even set ups for out door showers. So you can still do both. I have an outdoor shower that we use while camping you fill up the water bag lay it in the sun and you can have a hot shower and you have to be careful cause that water get's so hot it will burn you.
I watched that interview and I was also shocked at how Bob was portrayed. Some of the nicest people I have ever met have been on the road. Thanks Robin for your voice!!
as a newbie to the RV world, I found this fascinating. Friends would describe my politics as Left-Leaning and I was raised in the Southwest by very southern parents. With that said I did not realize that I had just this bias that I needed to address. Thank you, very thought-provoking.
I bought a 30' bumper pull in 2011, I lived in it for over a year and it was the best time of my life! I didn't have to, I wanted to. I've since sold my camper & live in a brick and mortar. The number of people who thought I had lost my mind or gone broke were astounding, I let peer pressure and my elderly parents talk me out of my wonderful adventure! When I retire I will go back to the Nomad life again!
A few years ago my son was homeless on foot hitchhiking all over the country BY CHOICE. He had do many wonderful experiences and some very dangerous ones too. I told him he should write s book. I was very surprised at how many really good people are out there who were good to my son. This was one praying momma, let me tell you! He is now in a sticks n bricks, married, because he now has a beautiful 3 yr old son. We are both of the wanderlust heart. I think it is so awesome what you nomads are doing. Yes, there are many wonderful ppl out there, I'm sure, and there are some very dangerous ppl out there as well. Sounds just like any other neighborhood. Thank you Robin, for all your videos. Always dreamed of doing the nomad life. Maybe someday I will. Until then, be free! God bless!
I am thinking of doing this - i am 60 worked 2 jobs my whole life & see so many passing away in their 50's & 60's - I am tired & haven't lived yet because of working so much - its time to see this great big beautiful world !!!!
I just turned 48 and have realized that I might just be the happiest ever...if I lived "in a van down by the river". I have lived at an Eco Village for abut 5 yrs now and will be moving into the neighboring town to be able to make more money and to save for a home on wheels. I am usually a home body type and want to plant roots and just work on improving my home and land. However, I am tired of growing roots in areas that I really don't want to be. So, I know now that I need to go and explore and to perhaps find a climate, culture and surrounding nature life where I will want to stay. Right now, I would love to ba able to just pack up afew needed things and leave the rest behind... A.S.A.P.
Thank you for making this video. I have yet to watch the interview but I follow Bob on RUclips as well. As a 45 year old single mother of 3 and a grandmother of 4, my goal is to purchase my first RV in the next 5-7 years and get out there (almost) full time. My house is almost completely paid off, so this is most definitely a choice and not out of desperation! Like I said, I have yet to watch the interview (I will tonight) but it makes me sick the way media twists stories. Again, thank you for posting this- I love all of your videos ❤
I love it when I go out in my bounder i get to wake up and look out my rv window and enjoy the view especially the beach which I love well said right on
Brilliant…thank you so much! I’m a 72 year old solo female nomad. Once a week I visit my sister for dinner and a movie. Since I prefer not to drive at night I stay where I park, at the end of her dead end street, away from the apartment building. One morning I awoke to a note on my windshield…Go back to the downtown Eastside Junkie! The misconceptions are real and I love you for standing up for us and for Bob, who is one of the best people I’ve ever met. 🚐❤️🚐
BRAVA!!! I have lived FT in a TT for 2 yrs now and I LOVE it! I work, I am NOT supported by the govt. and I'm happier than I've ever been in my 61 yrs. Right now, I'm boondocking in the most beautiful woodland hills in Kentucky. Someday, I'd like to fix up an enclosed trailer or have a shed-to-tiny home on wheels. But I'll not stop livin' la vida nomad as long as I am able. 😁
I am a nurse. I choose to live in a small mobile home and commute from the country into the city over an hour drive one way to work. I refuse to go into debt to buy a large nice brick home. We all make our choices. I’m happy with my little nest. Same as I would be if a van was my home. Hoping to travel all over in a van one day. Keep up the great videos. ❤️
Another excellent journalistic post by you. I saw the CBS show and did not catch those inferences or maybe I didn't want to hear them subconsciously. You are right on track. I traveled 5 months across country, going to the WRTR, RTR and many other get togethers. I met so many people that were not what I was used too, which was the working American rushing around. I found that the people living in all their different rigs for different reasons due to different circumstances were such great people. It was eye opening and enlightening. Back home now, I find I am constantly defending nomads and having to explain what it is all about and how great so many people are. When the public hear someone is living in a car or a van or RV, they automatically think of those people shown in the newscasts of people living in the streets in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other places. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone like you put together a documentary showing what this video was saying, getting the real story out there. I think if anyone can do it, you can.
My Grandmother told me over 40 years ago that there was to much of this telling other people how to live. She would be totally shock at what society is now. Our freedoms are being constantly eroded and freedom of speech unfortunately is no more. Very sad.
Thank you for speaking out, I'm retiring and will be going on the road at the end of July, I look at it like this, I've worked 55 years and now it's my time to do it my way. All my adult life I've never rented an apartment more than a year, I just can't stay in one spot too long, my mother use to say I had rabbit feet because I was always jumping around. I will be living in my suv because I CHOOSE to do it not because I have to do it. Thank you again for speaking out, I always look forward to your videos because they're informative and entertaining, thanks
Welcome aboard Vickie. I am 13 mths in my Class C. Next month I will be retiring. I look forward to not balancing work and life. I look forward to concentrating on my future plans.
That's my plan too haha. I like to write but by the time I get off work my mind is too fried to concentrate on anything and there's so much noise around me that I'm looking forward to getting out in the wilderness where it's nice and quiet.
Good job Robin. I saw part of the interview with Bob, and I couldn't put my finger on why it upset me so. Thank you for setting the story straight. You rock.
Me too! That's why I DIDN'T respond for 3 weeks. I just was left very unsettled. Mildly irritated and had to really consider why. I watched the segment several times and the more I watched the more disappointed I became.
I fully agree! When I saw that interview and he said "don't forget to pay your rent", I just about came unglued. There are so many of us women out here and I really appreciate you standing up for us! I sold my house and bought a motorhome, which was my choice for a more fulfilling life.
Juxtapose “remember to pay your rent” with the top 1% of wealthy people buying up all the single family homes, driving up the price to buy & forcing average people to be perpetual renters. I hate rent. It’s money that just disappears.
One video I saw Bob do, he stated something to the effect of "Pay your rent" in terms of putting that money towards a van and converting it into a campervan.
Great video and it applies in Australia as well. The majority of people that criticize the nomad community is because they are jealous or cannot understand how people can be free of possessions and consumerism. I am not familiar with the issues in the USA but here in Australia people have "mortgaged" the freedom in their life in the name of consumerism, materialism, and greed and do not know how to get out of it.
We are full timers. We love living on the road. We are thousand trail members. It is wonderful. We saved and don't ask for or need anybody's money . We are visiting America. I also don't care what anyone. Thinks. The people we meet on the road have been great. I hope to meet you and Bob. Someday. Travel safe.
I was just saying why I enjoyed following you!!! You are constantly reinventing yourself!!! You are both entertaining and educational!!! Blessings to you and the Big Boy!!!
I was disappointed in this video also ….. so glad you are setting the record straight. My house is on the market; as soon as it sells the process of buying the van and building it out will begin. I hope to run into you one day on the road.
Amen. I've been planning on going full-time for over two years. As of today, I've been full-time for just three weeks in an old Ford van I just love. I'm self employed and have been for over a decade. I would have made more money had I stayed in my sticks & bricks home as much of my work requires resources that simply aren't mobile. I didn't make this decision out of desperation. I worked tirelessly to get to a place where I can do this, including several test trips to be sure I was adequately prepared. I still work, I still pay taxes, I still have an LLC., etc. but I'm somehow "less" of a person because this is what I chose? Nope. As a marketing professional, I'm free to help those who need it the most without having to focus so much on what monetary rewards I receive. In reality all I did was swap long term stressors with short term stressors. I have no debt, want for nothing, and looking forward to the rewards this next year will bring. I'm far from broken. For me, the word "consumer" has become somewhat pejorative. I don't exist to consume, rather, I want to create, mentor, and encourage others who simply seek joy. Thanks so much for being an advocate. The role suits you well. Oh, and enjoy Oregon! That's where my journey began :) Be well.
Abrana Standley - That was the entire point to this video - to sell her books. The interview was fair and balanced. No one should have come away with a negative feeling. He stated the life is not for everyone, and certainly not for himself. In fact, I feel he showed the life in a positive way.
At first when I read your title I thought, "Oh what is her beef with Bob and his interview?" I totally agree with your viewpoint on his CBS interview! Right on!! Very well said. It is so wrong to say that nomads are all one way or the other. They vary just as all communities do.
Thank you for representing 😎 They should of known better. If they did any sort of research, they would know the wide range of this lifestyle. Nomadic is not just RV either, there is van, boat, bus, box trailer, tiny house, biking, motor biking, backpacking etc. It seems they came in with an agenda picked candidates and ran it without research.
I just turned 50, been building a skoolie for 2years now& I should finally be out "nomading" in 2021, a dream I've been working towards for about 10 years.. A plan I started formulating, after living in Seattle my whole life. & witnessed the cost living skyrocket , while wages have been flat or even gone down, especially after 2008.. I see it, the water just keeps rising, so I'm go out there, by choice, before I'm eventually forced to do so.. Glad to be going while I'm still young enough to fully enjoy life. I don't know where I'm headed, but I just feel drawn to do it. I just ran across your channel and I've really enjoyed your take on things. I subbed. Thank you. I hope to see you out there on road sometime. Cheers!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We're considering living full time in an RV so we can finally travel and really see the country. We're not rich, but we're certainly not bums.
Im so glad you addressed this! I rarely watch tv but I turned it.on for that interview and I was angry when it was done. They really did miss the point!
I'm glad you posted this. I saw that segment on Sunday Morning and was disappointed too. Bob always strikes me as a very content person, yet the interviewer just focused on the temporary inconveniences. It was a little shallow. Thanks for speaking out.
I’m afraid you are speaking to the already converted. I doubt those others will hear. Perhaps you could get invited onto a news show to say what you have so elegantly said today. Love your channel. Kisses to Big Boy.
We have a funny saying in our family. When someone offers someone something and they refuse, we say "Great! more for me!" It is all about perspective. Some people would not live in a big city no matter that they have theaters, museums, clubs, shops, diversity and are exciting. Some people would not live in some small village no matter that they have peace, tranquility, community togetherness and a sense of tradition. It is possible to appreciate all kinds of life without disparaging any of them. Frankly, I am getting sick of folks putting down other lifestyles like their own is the end all be all for everyone. Happiness is the right of everyone and their choice how to obtain it, well that is sacrosanct. Saying anything else just makes them sound rather simpleminded. So hey, they don't like living in a van or whatever, then great, more for me. (EDIT: Oh and FYI, the US was a nation of nomads before it was settlers, just saying. That Mayflower didn't just get up and walk itself over, nor did the Native Americans stick and brick either.)
Linda Lai then by all means stop watching those videos! RUclips has lots of content. I’m sure you can find something more to your liking. RV life isn’t for everyone.
@@lindalai9092 You are sick of the glamour? Yeah, doncha just hate it when they wear high heels and ball gowns and it throws off the whole camping vibe for everyone! Jeesh, what are they thinking? If camo is good enough for grandpa, it is good enough for everyone! And claiming the extinct freedom, well, it should just be remembered in the history books, along with the Dodo and the white rhinos. Now run back to your lawnmowing and thanks for the PSA!
As a middle aged woman working toward moving in to an RV - I am so happy to see this and to have some language for what I am already hearing from other people when I say that i am planning to do this! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this response to misleading information.
I see the hurt in your eyes ,but they just don't know anything else but to judge! We should start a LIVE show some how about woman in RV'S and promote freedom and joy . Bob looks like the kind of man that don't give a toot of what the media portrays him as! I follow Bob as well and he is very bright and tuff as nails.

“She’s CHOOSING because she CAN.” You nailed it. Well done!
@Zia Smith yeah but...
People need to open up !
You're fabulous! I'm a 67 yr old woman living in an RV full time. I'm not well off financially, but I'm rich in freedom and the beauty of America. Thank you for your words.
Anyone who can afford an RV is well-off.
Good for you, have as much fun as you can for as long as you can!
@@pjaypender1009 - well off in quality of life, yes. Well off financially? Not necessarily.
Good 4u Vicki- u r awesome going it alone- I am trying 2get the courage 2RV solo
I'm 67 and want to go on the road. I will be in my car until I can purchase a mini van. I'm learning so much 😌
Gotta admit I'm never going to take to the road in an RV, but I'm strangely obsessed with RUclips videos about RVers. And I admire you folks! You've chosen a life on your own terms and that's wonderful! Please don't think everyone believes you're all misfits or sad vagabonds. You look like you're having a lot of fun to me!
I agree 100%.
Same here
Good for you! Please keep us posted on your adventures as you have built in support from Robin's subs.

With a change of mindset you can actually live in incredible life out of your vehicle!!"
Bob is an inspiration!
Well said, Bob is amazing.
I am proud of him
@@joleezanes5938 yes I did, which is why I wrote what I wrote. after his divorce he discovered this way of life.

I now am spending the last two months of my apartment lease renovating my camper van, because I'm a self employed entrepreneur & I can do whatever I damn well please❤
Thank you for speaking your truth!
that's the spirit!

That's one reason why I don't watch news programs. A friend once told me "The media is not your friend". I couldn't agree more.
Aspie Runner ......big media like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS report fake news with their own spin and truth on that news.

Great video.
I was plucked from the workforce by a drunk driver. The lower cost of living has improved my quality of life.
I'm glad you are still with us🙏
so sorry to hear that. I am just happy you are alive to enjoy what life has.
I am 57 and really interested in "van life". I'm glad you are the reality in the middle. I want freedom from high rents and the domination of work.
You couldn't have described bobs following better.Freedom from high rent and a life of nothing but work.
You have articulated being a nomad very well Robin!
Janice I am also a Rn
Currently working in the hospital setting.
Janice nice to “meet” you. I’m an NP now looking forward to retiring as a nomad in 6 years.
Thanks for
your commentary.

You are definitely an eloquent representative of the nomadic movement. Thank you!
Movement?
YOU GO GIRL!! I FULLY AGREE WITH YOU! WE ARE NOT LOWLIFES! We are enjoying ourselves and working hard for a living! Thank you!!
Sewspcl - so true! plenty of lowlifes Living in bricks & sticks.
Sewspcl what’s a low life?
Sorry but Bobs following is not working hard for a living and neither are you tubers.
Robin, I've been on the road for 3 years and during that time I have met the best folks who really care. A genuine person is like finding a gold nugget, very rare and very valuable. Thanks for speaking for the rest of us, well said indeed.
Choosing to live in a van/rv does not equate to being deficient in any way. Thank you for setting the record straight. 🦋
Thanks for speaking out and defending Bob. Typical media...
Did you watch the story? How does the reporter attack Bob, or even demean him?
The conclusion of their piece was decided long before they spoke with Bob or anyone else. Truth telling is not on their minds in any way shape or form why Bob or anyone else would expect anything else is beyond me.
John Mal What did he get wrong?
You have a beautiful story, and a beautiful life. 💖
Less is more and there is no luggage department when we leave this journey, I love your message so true !! Best wishes and Cheers !!
1200 sq ft is normal in uk
Yes! Why do we allow definitions and being boxed. We are all unique and I hope in the future there is more support for individualism. Good for you and your family, I’m right behind you, looking for land as we speak for our next step after living in the RV for a year or maybe more - only God knows!
Well Said!
Preach it sister! I personally can't wait to come out and live the life! KUDOS to you Robin!
Rhonda Garrison < pipe dreaming, like most..
You have money and planned. Many do this as a lack of options
GOALS!!!! To see this beautiful country ON MY OWN TERMS & not as "society" dictates. Life is way to short to care what others think....
Carpe' dium
So I quit.
@@CrazzyLaddy69: Go see them before they're gone!

Your two cents is worth a million in positivity! Love it!
I could live in an apt. Or a house but I chose to retire in my rv.
I bet you're having a great time.
Robert Webb ~ I was gonna say exactly the same!! 😁 I’ve got one more year until I’m free. I hope to never look back. I’ll never forget what that woman said in the documentary where I first met Bob and found out about nomadic living.
“I mowed the lawn for thirty years. For WHAT??!!”
😆🤣 I was sold right there.
Thank you for speaking up! 🙋🏻🌷☕
Robin, you did a fine job of explaining the RV style of living. Bob is certainly a hero.
You are right - Bob is absolutely a hero!
Robin, you are so well spoken. You should be an ambassador for RV'ers. Someone should put YOU on TV.
I agree 👍
And i... Thank you Sooo much for this video... So needed and you sed it sooo well. Bless you for trying to help people understand the reality...
Well said!! I am glad you challenged these erroneous conclusions. Thank you
But u still have to go take a shit or shower daily
@@pakliv3243 they have composting toilets and even set ups for out door showers. So you can still do both. I have an outdoor shower that we use while camping you fill up the water bag lay it in the sun and you can have a hot shower and you have to be careful cause that water get's so hot it will burn you.
Penny Stewart - so what do you do in the winter time for a shower? Freeze ur ass off??? Lol
Bob needs to do a second Documentary with you as the producer!
Thank you for such great commentary! I love Bob Wells, you both are wonderful inspiration.
Both Robin and Bob are doing a spectacular job at representing and helping Nomads out there! More power to you both!
God bless!
One word Robin:
AWESOME!!
Love listening and learning from you.
I am thinking of doing this - i am 60 worked 2 jobs my whole life & see so many passing away in their 50's & 60's - I am tired & haven't lived yet because of working so much - its time to see this great big beautiful world !!!!
Go for it........................................
Good for you brother!
@idealist4life I feel much the same , and hope to meet you on the road..down the road 🙃🙋🏻♀️
I'm in my tiny man made unit on my ford ranger an never been happier.im61 to.maybe we'll Ssjj cross paths someday.😁
Robin, you are so right. Thanks for speaking out.
Right on Robin! I am 53 and living in a 2018 Spirit because I can! Thanks for speaking up for us.
That's because housing is so expensive.
Great observations, Arthur.
Well articulated, Robin. You are an important voice.
Well said, thank you for sharing real talk. Never judge a book by its cover 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤
Thanks so much. You too!
👏 BRAVO! So well said! I want them to interview YOU next! Get 'em girl! And I can say that ... I'm a 56 year old woman yearning for the RV life. 🌹
Go do it
I admire all of you that have broke free from being a slave to rent, utilities, 40hrs plus work week. Etc. Love watching you enjoy your free lives!
Well said brother :) EXCELLENT!

Maybe you should contact CBS and talk to the powers that be and out in your 2 cents.
CBS needs to interview Creativity RV when she comes out with her BOOK!!
@@abranasing Sounds like a great idea for a petition to send to them!
I wouldn't. The media will put their own spin on whatever she says. They can't be trusted.
@@abranasing won't matter even if they took her seriously. They will report how they want to story to view and that's it.
Thank you for representing 😎
They should of known better.
We're not rich, but we're certainly not bums.
go for it read about how to do it😘
Im so glad you addressed this!
Good for you to speak for all who can’t. To do it with such intelligence, grace and dignity.... may we all be as strong !!!
I’m afraid you are speaking to the already converted. I doubt those others will hear. Perhaps you could get invited onto a news show to say what you have so elegantly said today. Love your channel. Kisses to Big Boy.
You have done a great service Thank you . Hit the nail on the head,!,
I too am a 50yr old and Robin you inspire me every time I watch your videos. Well said dear. Take care x
I'm getting sick of people glamorizing the nomadic lifestyle and making claims about 'freedom' which doesn't exist.
Linda Lai then by all means stop watching those videos! RUclips has lots of content. I’m sure you can find something more to your liking. RV life isn’t for everyone.
GREAT comment! I hope to live nomadically someday. To each is own and there will always be pros and cons to everything including lifestyle. Thanks!
@@lindalai9092 That's an incredibly narrow-minded point of view.
As a middle aged woman working toward moving in to an RV - I am so happy to see this and to have some language for what I am already hearing from other people when I say that i am planning to do this! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this response to misleading information.
I agree I agree I agree!
Thank you, Robin, for voicing this publicly!!!
I shared this on my FB page, too.
WOOT! 👍🏼✌🏼💜💜💜
Thanks and thanks for sharing!
Hi Robin, Very well spoken and sharing your views. I enjoy watching you, Bob, and several others. Take care and safe travels to all Nomads.
