Sorry to see some unwarranted comments. I don’t think some British people realize that most of their nice towns are going downhill, very quickly, and Bath might be the best alternative for certain people, with some income. It’s an excellent video, and so glad to see this man interviewed to give his honest feedback.
I used to live in Bath for almost three years as a student from September 1970 enrolled at City of Bath Technical College. After completing my 'A' level I moved up north to continue my education. During my time there I used to stay at 11, St. Luke's Road, Bath: 9, Widcombe Crescent Bath: 12, Prior Park Buildings Bath. These addresses are only walking distance to tje college and there's a pub just across the road from the College. Like what's in the conversations there was never any bad incident we ever encounter. Well that was in the 70s despite that time was Skinhead rules 😅.... I will always remember Bath and hope to make a trip there. Hope I could stand the flight from where I am now which the flight time takes about 14 hours or prefer to do a transit in Dubai.... Since I completed my study in UK in 1978 I returned to my country and only returned once around 1986 despite I made many trips to UK due to my work and holidays.
Can't believe he thinks Bath is rude - his experience is totally different to ours. We've been here just over a year, and found it incredibly friendly - especially if you pick the right pubs.
But he lived for more than 30 years in Bath. He also witnessed the changes over the years and lived in Italy as well. Italy is filled with friendly and lively people, you’ll notice the difference if you also lived in Italy
You must keep in mind that the UK is probably one of the most xenophobic countries in Western Europe, many foreigners, regardless of their ethnic background or skin colour, experience what he had to and worse.
I’ve met rude and nasty people in Italy too, as well as very nice ones. And in Germany , Spain , USA… etc . If I branded a whole country on these , I would rightly be branded as racist
If you're white British you shouldn't even talk because the experience for you will be different than one from a foreigner. Brits (white) may not be overtly racist for the most part but they do mostly hang out with their own and are not welcoming or accepting like in other cultures. They are polite yes, but warm and hospitable? No.
Ann you did a wonderfully outstandingly great and very thoroughly informative video. Manuele genuinely sincere expertise was awesome. I am African-American from the us and have also experienced bigotry. Thanks for your time and for sharing. Blessings ever to you both.
My dad used to be able to afford rent on a flat close to the crescent by busking in the late 80s, nowadays you can't afford rent in that area unless you're an exec
The English are known for being cold and aloof and often for acting superior, though that´s declined somewhat with the days of Empire being a VERY long time ago now and with just about no one caring about what the UK is doing anymore. But it´s changing and also people in the north are more friendly. Younger people and those who have grown up with the internet are more open-minded and that´s true in most countries.
@@aminuzaya9945 pretty expensive. I lived in London before so nothing can be more expensive, but it's pretty close. Don't expect to find a one bedroom flat below 800/900 pounds per month.

A pretty awful video based around a single interview with a disgruntled individual recounting something which might have happened over thirty years ago.
Quite right. 34 years living in a city that he clearly hates. He's never considered the possibility that it might be him. Of all the people to interview, she chose a whiny, bitter man without a good word to say about the place.
Of course. People forget how recent the racism of the Brits are. There are probably racist bigots still alive today who would attack foreigners back in the 70s and 80s. Brits now like to pretend racism doesn't exist anymore and if you dare mention race, the instinctive response is you're 'playing the race card'.
I am Bath born and Bred . This chap is talking from a privileged point of view. Bath is horrendously expensive . Unless you have a very good income to live comfortably here . He didnt mention Twerton the south side of Bath at all . Bath caters more to students and tourists than residents unfortunately. We all arent as rude as this guy .
If you like sleeping to the sound of cackling hen parties and drunks EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK and have Christmas crowds shoved down your throat, it's a great place. I think it's shite. My sister lives in Bath and I would never pay to live there.
This has been my experience too, and I've lived here my whole life. Virtually all my close friends are international, the English only hang out with/accept their own. They won't bother you for the most part, but neither will they welcome you, show any hospitality or lift a finger to help you.
Beautiful video, the man’s story is so touching. Congratulations on the filming quality. Regarding Bath, it looks to me just like any other British city… gray, old, boring.
It’s true, the majority of cities in the UK are exactly like you described: grey, old and boring. However, I found Bath to have its own style. I probably haven’t showed Bath properly. Also, Edinburgh and Brighton are good places in the UK.
Every building in Bath legally has to be constructed out of Bath Stone. Grey yes, Old yes, Boring most definitely but lovely to visit. I’ve lived here for 21 years and that’s why I find it boring but there is plenty to see and do for people visiting
@@TheSweetestThing123I'm glad you was lied too! Glad you left because the country is much much better of without your negativity spreading like a cancerous cell
Something tells me Manuele is exaggerating; how did he know the old man was 83? I was enjoying your video until it started playing the race card as is so common these days. I'm not saying he did not encounter racism, but he makes it sound like Bath was inhabited by awful people before 'multi-culturalism'.
I'm bath born and raised..I got pushed out of bath because I could no longer afford to live...This is why many of us voted Brexit...Though Brexit hasn't stopped the influx of migrants.
If you think Bath is a shit hole, you are sheltered like nothing else. I've never lived anywhere else and I know Bath is one of the best off places in the UK. We are not trapped, I can go anywhere in Bath I want right now, so stop talking out of your arse
He's extremely rude about the UK for somehwere that has been his home for so long. Perhaps its his ignorance to say anywhere but Bath is not an attactive place to live; perhaps its because hes still an immigrant and doesnt really know the country.
He sounds like an absolute snowflake 😂. So he got in to some arguments and people made a personal quip about him as most do if they are having an angry confrontation and he says the place is racist, ok 😂. Oh the hardship. Hasn't stopped him staying.
In Canada there is no more ridiculous accent than a British accent , at least in my opinion , and if you mistake their accent for australian they will go ballistic . A more pretentious people than the british there could never be !

Responding to the experience of intolerance with more intolerance and ignorance how ironic and self-defeating. There's no such thing as a British accent. Cornish people don't sound the same as people from London. Stick to your poetry, Edward.
