Jin and RM are from Seoul satellite cities, so yes, similar to your LA surroundings cities. The rest of BTS are from the southern provenances of South Korea. They have songs "Paldogangsan (Satori rap)" and "MA City" where they sing about where they come from.
I’m almost certain he said “Hello? I’m at the Han River. I’m coming.” at that part with the phone call.
Speaking of the Han River (which flows through the center of seoul), he’s mentioned a few times that he spends a lot of time walking or cycling along the river when he needs energy and space to reflect. The lyric in this song “Han Rivers that bear too much Han” hits especially hard when you’re aware that “han” is a Korean word for a specific emotional state: a mix of sorrow, nostalgia, anger, pain, and hope. The suicide rate in south korea is exceptionally high, and especially the han river is sadly well-known for people committing suicide there. There is one bridge that is now called “Bridge of Life”, where people will write comforting and encouraging messages as graffiti. (Info taken from doolsetbangtan).
RM is from a “satellite city” of seoul, as is Jin (so they’re not quite from seoul, but geographically very close). The other 5 members are from completely different parts of the country (Gwangju, Daegu, Busan).
His from Ilisan a province of Korea that's why he said in the tiny desk live Seoul is his second home.
@@leonilasabido3790 I know he’s from ilsan, but if you look up ilsan, you’ll see that “Ilsan is located northwest of Seoul. Like other satellite cities in the Seoul National Capital Area such as Bundang, Ilsan was planned in order to alleviate housing shortages in the city of Seoul.” It’s literally defined as a satellite city (very similar to what jurnalist was saying about LA). But of course that doesn’t mean he’s directly from seoul, and moving to the actual inner city would have still been a big change for him
The production of the mono playlist... its so calming. I used this mixtape to fall asleep everyday. It works so well.
No member is from seoul. Jin and Rm are from around seoul. Their accent is very close to standard seoul accent. Seoul is up north.
Jk and jimin are from busan. V and suga are from daegu. Both daegu and busan is to the east.
Jhope is the only member from gwangju which is really down south.
For more stuff about their home town check out these songs.
1. Ma City
2. Satoori rap
Hobi has a really thick dialect, sometimes it's hard for me to understand. Especially in the early days, Gwangju people were and are so isolated from the rest of Korea, because of recent History. That's why they still face discrimination. Either way, it's sometimes really hard to understand what he is saying, because Jeolla People slur and drag vowels and drop consonants.
Same here, I used to listen to this album to sleep, like lullaby in HipHop style. People think I am crazy and ask why I can sleep playing rap songs. I always told them to listen to the whole album at least one time first.
@@ejentabi I've listened rock and metal songs to sleep 😂 Imagine what people though about me😂
this song always brings something soothing to me
RM is from Ilsan, Jin is from Anyang and J-Hope is from Gwangju. All the boys are from outside of Seoul.
In tiny desk video , rm says that Seoul is like second home to him cause he spent most time of his music making in Seoul and thus it's like him portraying how he feels towards the city
RM is from Ilsan which is a city near Seoul, but it's very different from Seoul.
Almost all members are from southern provinces except for Jin and RM, all of them also have dialects (or satooris) except for Jin and RM who speak standard Korean :)
V and Suga -> North Gyeongsang Province (Geochang & Daegu)
Jimin, Jungkook -> South Gyeongsang Province (Busan)
J-hope -> Jeollado province (Gwangju)
(all from the south, Jeollado being the most southern province)
Jin & RM -> Gyeonggi Province (Anyang & Ilsan)
(Same province which Seoul lies in)
The whole playlist, mono, is like a mood mix-tape imo. RM was musing about how he was feeling at that particular point in time. I listen to it in order and just love every bit of it.
None of the BTS members are from Seoul
RM is from Ilsan (about an hour drive from Seoul)
Jin is from Anyang (about an hour drive from Seoul)
SUGA is from Daegu (about 2.5 hours from Seoul)
J-Hope is from Gwangju (about 2.5 hours from Seoul)
Jimin is from Busan (about 3 hours from Seoul)
V is from Daegu (about 2.5 hours from Seoul)
Jungkook is from Busan (about 3 hours from Seoul)
All of them had to move to Seoul from their home towns to become trainees for Big Hit. That is one reason why they had to all live together.
At the end of Hectic, on the Indigo album, when they sing "We still love and hate this city", that was a reference back to this song.
Before watching… aaah, back to MONO ~ love SEOUL by RM, our Joonie 🥰🎶💜🐨
Thank you!
Oh gosh, I will try my best to describe how to pronounce "Cheonggyecheon" through typing lmao So first, when you see Korean words romanized into English letters, just remember that when there's an "eo" in the word, the closest pronunciation in English to that is "uh". So, "cheong" and "cheon" are just pronounced "chung" and "chun," respectively. The "gye," part...the best way I can describe that it's pronounced is like "yay" (but with less emphasis on the second "y"...so more like "yae") with a "g" in front. So, "gyay/gyae". Or alternatively, think of the Canadian/American Midwestern "eh" sound and add a "y" sound before it, "yeh", and then add a "g" before that so "gyeh". That would be the closest pronunciations I can describe. The result is "chung-gyeh-chun". And btw, in case you were wondering, Cheonggyecheon is an 11 km-long stream that runs through Seoul and there are really nice paths along it that you can walk, and at night, it has really cool lights along it and under the bridges that cross it that are really pretty; it's a beautiful aspect of Seoul.
I probably just made it seem even more complicated, but hoepfully you got it somewhat hahaha
Oh, edit after seeing you try to pronounce it on your own: both "g"s are hard "g"s. So, the "gye" part, the "g" is pronounced like the "g" in "game."
Another edit: no, it did not smell fishy when I was there, but then again, it was really cold when I went so it might be different in the summers when it's hot and humid as hell lol
This is one of my fav songs from Namjoon💜
All BTS members are not from Seoul. They came from different provinces, pretty much small towns up country area compared to Seoul. these stories were told a lot.
Not small towns but yes not in Seoul.
I love this song so much, kinda how I felt about many cities I’ve lived in
I totally get that
mono这张专真的是人生治愈良药。每当我需要独自释放情绪的时候,总是会循环这张专。
I really love the solo works of Namjoon and often listen to Mono and Indigo. He has a melancholy feeling to all his songs that I really like. He often has a theme in his songs about the loss of innocence/childhood. The songs are always very personal. And he is one of artist in BTS who's journey here in ' the second chapter will be very interesting I think.
This song is a total vibe. Please listen to his Mono Album. It's deep but soothes and heals the soul with both the lyrics and music.
Issa mood, perfect album for a chill ride through the country, windows down. I think this is my fav from this album.
We don't really know when he wrote the songs in Mono, it's kind of splattered around the timeline 😭 but I assume is after 2015, and 2016 onward is when BTS started gaining international attention and flying around a lot
no bts member was born in seoul, a rarity.
rm is from ilsan
jin is from anyang
suga and v are from daegu
j-hope is from gwangju
jimin and jungkook are from busan
RM i love them🤗🤗
9:25 the soundwave look is ART T_T and many people don't notice it.
This song is such a comfort..tbh whole mono album is masterpiece
Full Mono album is a really good one. I used to listen to it to sleep and people thing I am crazy 🤣. This album opened my eyes that Rap songs can be in such soft touch. (I came from classical and ballad genre but now starting to enjoy metal, hip hop etc.thanks to BTS)
Well, as you know, I'm not fluent, so I'm not sure of what he said, buy I *think* is something like "Hello... (You're) at the Han River? (I'll) go"
That's what I understood at least hahahahah
ty for the translation, you know more than I could ever guess.
One of my top songs by BTS and a BTS member for so many reasons -especially the feelings it evokes whether you know or don’t know the lyrics. All members come from different cities outside of central Seoul - RM is from Ilsan where he first looked up at the stars as a young boy. I think your analogy to Northridge is also true for Ilsan which is a satellite city in the Seoul National Capital Area. This rxn finally motivated me to learn the chorus in Hangul 💜
Saranggwa miumi gateun marimyeon I love you Seoul
Saranggwa miumi gateun marimyeon I hate you Seoul
Saranggwa miumi gateun marimyeon I love you Seoul
Saranggwa miumi gateun marimyeon I hate you Seoul
check out their song Ma City where they all sing about the cities they're from
None of the BTS members are from Seoul! RM is close though, he's from Ilsan. Suga and V are from Daegu, Jimin and Jungkook are from Busan, Jin is from Gwacheon and J-Hope from Gwangju.
Me as a German hearing "Norddeutsch" I just jump a bit. Since Norddeutsch means the north of Germany
I’m in northern Germany as we speak. 😂
Seoul officially known as the Seoul Special City, is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea.
Love the vibe of this song!
Members from Smaller cities in Korea:
Daegu- suga & V
Gwangju - j-hope
Busan - Jimin & Jungkook
RM is from Ilsan and Seokjin is from Anyang which are close enough and considered Seoul-ish
The MV footage is from Seoul
If you realize it, the visual that start from 8:29 is actually audio wave
I listen to this album almost every weekend morning with a cup o coffee watching the sunrise in my backyard patio. Or when taking long drives at night!
Finallyyyyyyy my favorite song 🤧 Song of peace. He wrote it.
It's a river in Korea so maybe and Korea also has a healthy fishing economy. So maybe there are fish markets around there which might be why it smells fishy. Because they have tons of open street markets everywhere. If I remember correctly all RM said on the phone call was that he was at the Han river and that he'd be leaving soon. I don't remember if he told us or we assumed but I think it was one of the guys calling him. He wrote Seoul, well the album while both on and off tour. He was contemplating his life during Mono.
Jk and jimin. In Busan
V and Suga in daegu
Rm from ilsan
Jin is from Gwacheon, a city near Seoul
Jhope is from Gwangju
lol when you stopped at Cheonggyecheon, you could of rewinded back and heard him say it 😭😂
Sometimes I can’t understand even when they say it. 😭😭
Cheonggyecheon is a river in Seoul, so yeah, I assume it smells like fish, idk?😭😭
I listen to this song almost every day🔥💜
💜💜
non of the members are from seoul. Jimin and JK are from Busan (the second largest city in South korea. Suga and V are from Daegu. Jhope is from Gwangju. Jin is from Gwacheon and RM is from Ilsan which I think is not that far from seoul. they all moved to seoul to train and have been living there ever since, about 11/12 years now
is Jin from Gwacheon or Anyang? i know he has said both… i feel like he was born in one and raised in the other but i can’t find a video where it specifies… do you know a video where it says?
@@lixjoonhoneymt7149 he was born in anyang and he said on knowing bros when asked that he's from gwacheon. also on running man while talking to jongkook he said that he was born in anyang but then moved out when he was young
@@wmk0945 ahhhh, i knew i heard it somewhere, but couldn’t remember
thank you 💜
I vaguely remembered that V is from outside Daegu. Can anyone remember/confirm?
@@onenottwoorthree yeah I said daegu but he's from the district of daegu in Geochang if I'm not wrong
rm doesn't have a driver's license tho 😭🤣
ive heard this is for planetary safety.
@@Jurnalist_ excited for moonchild my fave 😭💜
I love the mood of this song and the way the lyrics sound is also super pleasing to my non-Korean-understanding ear.
Oooh good call on the 6lack breakdown type beat!! Even more so than Brent Faiyaz
10:00 I'd say your theory would make sense because the 1st track was Tokyo and it's followed now by Seoul
So I think it was meant to highlight the contrast between the loneliness of a foreign city, and the love/hate of a familiar place like his second hometown Seoul
CSUN graduate here! Now living in Hawai'i. 💜
Northridge in the house. 💜💜
cheonggyecheon is a stream that goes through seoul.
Yes! I feel like many people can't wait to leave their cities, but then all things considered, you actually love that effing city ^^U
my favorite track from mono! everythingoes is also one of my favs
none of the members are originally from seoul, only jin and rm lived kind of close to it, others lived very far from it
Who is your bias from BTS?
Currently I don’t have one I don’t think. But rap line and jk are my favs
Thank you for the reply 💜
I like the song too it's good.💜☺
You should check out his tiny desk performance of this if you haven’t already he explains how Seoul is his second hometown
Yo shout out to northridge, i have friends from there.
(Sorry, random.)
Gr818 stand up. 💜
RM is from Ilsan...comparative distance with LA to Pasadena
Rather than comparing Seoul and the outlying cities to LA, a better analogy is New York City.
Even people as far away as Palm Springs still have an LA sensibility, and have probably spent a lot of time there. But you don't have to get too far from NYC to be a total stranger to the vibe of that city. People simply don't drive as much as Socal natives, so they don't tend to venture far. Even people who live on the edges of NYC itself have little in common with those in the center of Brooklyn or Manhattan.
Although Jin and RM grew up pretty close to Seoul, they would not have felt totally "at home" in the early years. The others definitely would have felt far from home.
Really enjoy your journey down the bora rabbit hole! Lol, theres a fun explanation video for this song which includes a tour of Seoul. She highlights some of the locations featured in the MV. You dont have to record a reaction for this, of course. I just happen to think youll enjoy the additional context for the song! 💜😂

If you like the vibe of this song, I think you're gonna love his song Bicycle.
ruclips.net/video/XAG7oATVkIg/видео.html
The day I heard this song, I went and bought a bike. I'd been thinking about it for sometime, but I loved this song so much, it pushed me to do it. Great ode to biking, which appears to be a big thing to RM.
He is from a small place near Seoul tge others are way far but they spend their teenagers in Seoul
💜
Thank you for sharing your reaction to Namjoon's (RM) single "Seoul" I'm glad you enjoyed his song. I play this song when I need to relax or drive to and from work. An explanation video that was created 4 years ago by Minidance. ruclips.net/video/0wEcBmjlQzs/видео.html It's a very good video should check it out.
I want you to react to RM songs from soundcloud I beg 🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑
Remind me when I get back
4:50 think of it as syllables: chong kye (read as ka-nye, nye, kye, not... kai) chon (in EN they romanize one of the o sounds as -eo-)
I know Suga and V are from Degu and JK and Jimin are from Busan, but the rest I'm unsure. ( I could be wrong in spelling though, I'm only a year old baby army.)
Ur right the others Jin -Gwacheon , RM - ilsan , Jhope-Gwangju
Wait....how have we come this far in the Journey and you haven't reacted to RM Do You?
There's a really helpful explain video by Minidance that's helpful to explain the cultural references that go over our heads with this one. ruclips.net/video/0wEcBmjlQzs/видео.html
5:20 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheonggyecheon if he says it does... probably it does ^^ Like near ports or such, I actually like that smell in a way
