Don't be afraid to change your system when you need to, either. Most ADHDers need to swap periodically and that's okay. Give yourself grace, because the same brain that needs change and newness makes those beautiful little drawings and that's lovely.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 25. I found that I really need to break down tasks and projects to a very granular step-by-step list. Which does seem overkill to a lot of people but it helps me not forget important steps for complex processes and also my brain sees all the individual tasks as their own thing, rather than just the one main task.
My biggest thing I’ve learned since learning how to work with and not against ADHD is to do what makes life easier for me and not worry about how that compares to what other people need to do. Easier said than done but always goes better when I do!

I LOOOOVE your ADHD planner. I love it so much I got a little baby planner myself so I could do the same thing. It reminds me of a period of my life last year when I was so completely stressed out and overwhelmed that I did something like this, including details like "walk upstairs" and "brush teeth," "get dressed," "walk downstairs," "eat lunch," etc. Because I just couldn't even think once my day got going. An ADHD friend of mine (who is also a life coach) called it "externalizing your executive function" which was a wonderful way of describing it, and made me feel less embarrassed. It was a kindness to myself to do that thinking ahead of time. I really love your way of doing it. I got a little A6 hobonichi graph notebook because I'm currently addicted to Tomoe River paper lol.

Fellow ADHD-er here, and YES! My planning system (figure out my to-do list in the morning, redo it in Sunsama so it syncs with my calendar and gives me notifications, and then write down what I'm working on in addition to that) would be ridiculously redundant to many people, but it helps me run my business and keep my life (mostly) together, which is all that matters!

For anyone that is super busy at work and need to communicate effectively with your manager how you are accomplishing your tasks and why so there is so much more to do..... This method works really well.
Not ADHD, but my Dean was like you should have enough time to do all the things. After presenting him the daily interactions in my day from, emails, meetings... office team, student team I managed, meeting with clubs about their events, reviewing their event activity requests and approving, training clubs on the college rules, setting up travel, helping clubs put in their events, running campus wide student events like movie day with popcorn, welcome back to campus, mid term and finals treats. My days were jammed packed. I barely had time for a lunch let alone a comfort break in the restroom... lol😂😂😂 he finally got it. Oh and I still had to approve the work my student employees did for posters for clubs, putting up and taking down posters❤

That ADHD journal makes complete sense to me. It basically looks like you’ve looked at your cousin to-do list and spread them out into steps. We need the extra help with breaking things down and keeping focused. Congrats on your diagnosis and I really hope you find great support to manage with your ADHD (hope it’s okay to say that ☺️). I personally need a list too, but I know it doesn’t work for everyone. My difference is I can’t have multiple lists in multiple books, but I love how we’re all finding things that work for us. ❤

I'm not Helen but I hope I may help as well ☺ For me the most important thing is making all things highly visible. This refers to tasks, time, the passage of time, appointments, etc. You don't have to be an artist, although it helps as we can all see in Helen's beautiful spreads. But making tasks visible on a notepad on my desk and breaking them down into sub-steps, making timers and time visible. Otherwise, everything merges into a ball of confusion in my brain and nothing gets done 😶 Things that vanish visually (like a to do list somewhere in my cell phone) will never get done.

    • @purplepaisleypassion
      @purplepaisleypassion 3 месяца назад +1

@isomon5441 oh wow this is SO TRUE! Things need to be analog for me, if I'm going to get things done and have success gaining control of each minute/hour/day. Lists in my head or on my phone just don't help me.

Fellow ADHD’er here! Love your share on your adhd approach. I would say don’t limit yourself to how much you share. No one thinks you’re a doctor saying what they should do, but that these are working, or may not work for your brain. People will take what they need, and leave what they don’t.
I do something very similar. If I see my full to do list in front of me, I hit task paralysis and shut down. So I brain dump in an inbox that I then close so I don’t see it lol each day I list my top three tasks / deadlines for the day then go get more tasks as time allows from my next actions lists. I am going to try your habit of marking when you take breaks. My one thing with my adhd is when I hyper focus, I could go hours and not come up for air. That’s not healthy either. So striving for a few break marks a day in my list, might be good motivation. Thanks for sharing!

Ooh I love your ADHD planner! I'll often write "the next three things" (that I'm going to do) on random post-it notes, etc. but I kind of like the idea of seeing the little successes adding up! I think I would have to be really committed to only writing what I am definitely going to do on this list (save the aspirational to-dos or reminders of things that aren't actionable yet for another location), so it would stay manageable and approachable, and maybe after a while of seeing things getting done, it would build some self-trust and be a positive thing that helps me know I can do things! I just pulled out a Hobonichi Weeks memo notebook to try it out!

(And bending, lifting, squatting, stretching and leaning over the table...)
If I were beside you, I'd draw in little gold stars on those days, because the total activity on those days went above and beyond what your normal 10k steps do. Consider those Gold Star days and keep the streak going! :)

I love your ADHD planner and they way you have broken out your tasks makes so much sense to me. So often, managers and peers don't understand that a simple task is comprised of many tasks and it takes much more time to complete it than they think it does! I am responsible for creaitng a specific quarterly report. Written on my to do list as "X Quarterly Report", but in reality it takes 13 steps/different tasks to complete the report, so really the single line item written on my To Do List is actually 13 "to do's"! I'm going to incorporate my own seconday planner that breaks out all the steps/tasks it takes to complete a lot of what I do so that I can show my manager.

As someone who had undiagnosed ADHD till my early 30's, I've tried so many planner systems to keep my life in order, and I've learned that it can be a crapshoot whether one will work 🤣 It can depend not only on our brains, but also the job we have or the season of life we're in. I've currently got a detailed task list for work in a Sterling Ink planner, and then I keep my personal life afloat with my bullet journal and my Todoist app. It's probably the most consistent I've ever been, but it took a lot of trial and error for me to get her, so I love seeing what works for others!

I love this idea. I’ve been looking for the right system/notebook to do the to-do list brain dump (like you do in your Hobonichi) so I can then time-block it in my weekly vertical planner (like you do in your ADHD planner). I would love to put those brain dumps in the back blank pages of the planner then just move them to the weekly spread in the order I want to do them, but object (im)permanence means I simply cannot flip back and forth, they both have to be visible at the same time in separate books. I love you adhd planner! As an occupational therapy student (soon to be therapist) and fellow neurodivergent,I love seeing alternative methods to stay on task and writing down everything that you do in a day. Especially if it helps you to manage your anxiety and time management. The method you use is a common OT method relating to task analysis and breaking down major tasks into smaller steps to complete, making them achievable. Because all the “small tasks” when put together throughout the day can amount to a lot and sometimes feel unachievable. Allowing for yourself to have smaller achievements and a sense of accomplishment to aid in completing the over-arching activities of the day is important. This is my long winded way of saying that I really appreciate this method and absolutely see its role in your routine, it is not redundant whatsoever.
Also you do have the authority to speak about your experience with neurodivergence as you are someone who is neurodivergent, you’re a member of the neurodivergent community and your experience is important, unique and your story to tell. No authority required.

The small task checklists are a great way to get multiple little dopamine hits and stay on track through the day. I get time blindness with tasks so I add an accompanying activity with things to create a stopping point.
Example: I watched this during my "Make M's coffee" task. It takes half an hour from grinding the beans to handing him his travel cup. It's a cozy time of day with happy kitties, and the scent of fresh brewed coffee. I easily fall down a rabbit hole of watching happy videos and need everything to have a similar break point so I can naturally move to the next task.

Thank you for sharing the ADHD journal. I used to keep something similar, but in a much larger notebook. I don't know if this is the case for you, but when I write a short list of items, my mind goes into a kind of autopilot in order to get them completed as quickly as possible. Inspired by your notebook, I just repurposed an old pocket Moleskine to create something very much like yours. I started my list by writing down the things I already accomplished for the day and checked each item off. I drew a line underneath and made a list of items, not necessarily related to one another, but ones I could accomplish in a single "session" or "dash." Since my brain always overestimates the amount of time things take, I recorded the time when I started the group and the time I finished. Amazingly, the list of 5 items only took me 15 minutes! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you again for your vulnerability. You reminded me of a strategy I'm excited to get started again.

Oh my gosh, I would live a process video as you work through your to do list process. My therapist is working on that with me. I can’t focus or keep on task because I have so many things on my mind. She wants me to keep a to do list handy and everything that pops up hot it down then go back to the task at hand. I love your system. I am going to try it! I lose sticky notes so maybe this list style would work better for me. Thank you for sharing. I never thought of turning the book sideways!

I love your ADHD task list booklet. I did something similar in the blank pages of my Common Planner last year. It worked well, but I think I over complicated it. I had checklist columns for work vs. personal tasks, and date columns for when I logged the task and when I completed it, and a column to indicate the priority level. Mine was more of an ongoing, running list. I might try a technique similar to yours. 🥰

Yay, for finding a system that helps you focus! I have grandchildren (Yes, I'm an old) who have ADHD. It can be rough!
I kept wondering what notebook you were using for your ADHD notebook. The answer came when I saw your 2025 line-up in your bullet journal. (I hope Sydney is doing okay)
I'm ready for Fall! (Just random observation)
I did not shop the Hobonichi drop. And I felt all the FOMO. I did look at certain shops, and if the Weeks cover design I wanted had been available, I would have bought one. (Wallpaper design) I did like a few of the covers, but I reasoned that buying a new cover when I'm not using a Hobonichi in 2025 would be a waste.
I hope you have a kick ass week! I am looking forward to seeing your new designs and kits for 2025. I haven't figured out what things I need. I'm trying to be more mindful (and demure, SORRY) about my spending. I need to use what I have and buy a bit less in the coming months. ❤

I love your reading journal! I've been wanting to do a reading journal for a long time, but all the ones I had watched were cutting up the printed covers, doing art way being my time/skill, and making all these spreads. They were really pretty, but I don't have the time/energy to give to that and there was no way I'd actually keep up with it. Your reading journal is simple, yet aesthetic, and I could totally see this being the type of journal I could keep doing for all my books. I'm totally gonna take a page out of your book on this one, if you don't mind.

Nice! You're a fellow "brain" (adhd). For work, I have a notebook where I use a combination of the Ivy Lee method and pomodoro method. It keeps me from getting overwhelmed, since, with adhd, anxiety happens from getting overwhelmed. I love what you covered here, it was so interesting and helpful, but would love even more detail of your actual process -- i.e., do you take an item on your main list, determine to work on it, then break it down into all its steps in the ADHD planner? Or do you have multiple topics at a time in a block, etc... Aaaah, so many questions - would LOVE a video just on that process alone from this video. Thanks for all you do, thanks for such a thorough video, it's beautiful and relaxing and inspirational just to see your gorgeous pages. Ok, sorry this is toooooo long. Thank you! 🎉😂🩵🤗

Thank you for admitting you're not an authority on ADHD - so many people aren't humble enough to do that. Sharing what works for you in planning/journal is YOUR authority ☺ and it helps so many of us.
Your little book listing tasks in order looks perfect for retaining focus. From an ADHD person to another, I'm very happy to hear you found what works for you.
I wish I could follow something like that but it makes my brain super restless over-focusing like that. But listing tasks (and doing them in my own erratic order) definitely has helped me. I never used to list and just held things in my head and that just does not work.
I've yet to decide on my reading journal but I think when journal orders arrive I'll be better able to decide.
I'm probably being dense but I'm confused how your pocket bullet journal to dos etc are different from how you use the Cousin lists etc. Is it completely different tasks/thoughts or do you find you repeat a lot of notes?
tfs sharing your journals, always inspiring! 💛💛
