- Residents in Moldova fear renewed fighting at the border with breakaway region Transnistria. Russian soldiers are stationed in a separatist area. DW correspondent Fanny Facsar visited Moldovan enclaves surrounded by Transnistria, where people are concerned about Russia’s influence in Transnistria and a potential war between Moldova and Russia.

My God! Leave these peaceful people alone!
for real
If anyone's to blame, it's Russia that's responsible. Transnistria is Moldovan territory. Russia has NO right to touch its neighbors and or other countries. If Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia/Sakartvelo want to join NATO and or the EU, that's only their choice not Russia's.

Moldova should reunite with Romania just like East and West-Germany did in 1990. In Moldova 82% are romanians and just 4% russians (Census 2014).

@@SilentSword-tc8dt Maybe you should learn a bit more about history then.
Moldova should unite with Romania. It was part of Romania until 1940, when the Soviet Union occupied it.
The vast majority of people are ethnic Romanians. Alone, Moldova will not stand a chance.
It is not enough that someone is 'ethnically' someone (Romanian, Russian, anyone). People on both sides of the border have to want it. And from what I hear, they are unlikely to want it. Romanians are afraid of the money it would take to rebuild Moldova. Moldovans... well, at least the politicians are afraid of losing relevance in the larger Romania, as these poor relatives from the east.
@@PKowalski2009 You heard wrong.

He can go Moldova and take Odessa from the side. THINK AND STUDY MAPS....
the supporters are deluded. have they not seen russia's economy? it's not tanking as bad as theirs but it is still tanking.
How are the separatists getting help?
It's not like Transnistria is bordering Russia.
Cos the whole population supports russia
Classic neocolonialism:
1) Transnistria (left bank) is supplied with gas by Russian Gazprom via a gas pipeline, but the population does not pay, and the costs fall on the right bank;
2) Transnistria is provided with electricity, which is produced from gas, expenses fall on the right bank….
More than 10 billion dollars of Transnistria's debt is the price that Russia pays to the Transnistrian people for hatred of Moldova and separatism.
For a military-political presence on the Dniester, for influencing Moldova and keeping it in the sphere of one’s interests, it is very convenient to manage it without giving it anything.

As an American, I'm all for self-determination of different regions. After all, America was once a colony of the British Empire.
But, where I'm always skeptical is when there is so much influence by another country.
Russia has troops in Transnistria. If the people could have a free vote on whether to be an independent country, that would be one thing. But, I'd never trust such results because of Russian influence.
The same goes for the Donbass and Crimes regions of Ukraine. They had referendums, but no one believes the results aren't fraudulent.
Likewise with Putin recently being re-elected. His rival was found dead and it's very likely Putin had him killed.
And, the election had Putin get nearly every vote despite mass disapproval with the war in Ukraine.
This is why I'm far more supportive of Moldova taking back all their territory, just as I support Ukraine taking back their territory.
