You pick out the coolest places to stay. I want to thank you for letting me escape for just a spell from the craziness of today's world. I find myself not watching TV anymore and just enjoying your videos and other streamers like you. My wife and I are in the process of catching up on all of your past videos we have never seen before. Again, thank you so much Terry for bringing a smile to our faces and a little culture for our soul.
Wow, this video is amazing! I had no idea you could find such a nice place to stay ....deep in an alley in the Old Quarter, living just like an Old Quarter resident. I didn't know this experience would be possible without having to sacrifice your comfort. Fun fact: the Old Quarter is famous for having multi-generational families (usually at least three) living in the same home because real estate there is so expensive. If he sold that unit, it could easily be worth several million USD, with old quarter homes priced around $40-50k USD/m². That’s why families often cram generations together and share a public bathroom with multiple units. Most of the time, these homes aren’t this nice or fancy-they’re pretty rundown. The people who still live there usually run businesses like street restaurants or shops around the area. This guy's home, though, is so fancy while still keeping all its original pieces and traditional charm. I love how the host is super passionate about sharing the culture...the Dong Ho drawings were beautiful, and I loved hearing about how the paper and ink were made. It was so interesting and educational. I also checked out their website, and the price for a stay is really reasonable ($70). I usually avoid boutique hotels in the Old Quarter because they make me feel trapped, so I stay around the Trieu Viet Vuong area. It’s close to the Old Quarter and has bigger, nicer rooms. But I’ll definitely give this Airbnb a try next time I’m in Hanoi. Thanks for sharing!
a true gem. He was so proud of his place and his country. And rightfully so, such passion. I hope you go back to Vietnam again soon. You really just scratched the surface. I have been 6 times and can't wait to go back
Great video Terry. There were some very cool features in that airbnb you had. I liked the wooden bathtub especially that you can wash without any water as you just did lol 😂
Who ever thought from the outside entrance and walking up all these wooden stairs and dirty wall you end up in this nice and well décor beautiful room .
About 20 years ago, way before airbnb there were quite a lot of hostels that had a similar aesthetic to your room, the outside environment wasn’t so rough tho - it looks like a lot of hotels are more polished now. I know a similar GH in Bangkok, if you want to visit, like just a couple of hundred baht a night, very basic shared facilities, great neighbourhood and community.

OMG How could you stay in that old tumble-down house . Just the entrance and the long dark corridor already scare me .
Right in the heart of the action with old world appeal. This is exactly what I was looking for.
