    The silver Casio calculators (fx-991ES PLUS) have an even easier cheat:
    MODE > "5: EQN" > "4: ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d = 0"
    Then you get a table with 1 row and a column for a, b, c and d (i.e. the coefficients of each power of x), so in this example, a = 1 (1x^3), b = 1 (1x^2), c = -16 (-16x) and d = -16.
    Hit "=" and you get "X1 = 4"
    Hit it again and you get "X2 = -1"
    Once more, "X3 = -4"
    That gives you your 3 solutions.
    There's an option for quadratics equal to zero and for problems in "ax + by = c" and "ax + by + cz = d" form too. Really useful, and perfectly permissible in an exam!

      I regard A Level Maths as `proper Maths.` For me it was challenging, but so immensely fascinating. I can`t answer your question, to be honest, because to me it is as fascinating as it is challenging and I always get the two mixed up - if that makes sense.
      I didn`t do A Level Maths because I had to, but because I love it -which I think helped a lot.
      No doubt there will always be those whom are going to find this A Level easy. You might be one of them. Enjoy it.

      Student Vlogs - Dylan, agreed, get the best calculator allowed, and use that to solve those equations. But you still have to do it properly without the calculator, they will not give you many marks if you just write the answer in, you have to show the workings otherwise they know you just used your calculator.
      So learn the proper solution, and use this tip to check you got it right
      Or if you run out of time, then give it a go with the calculator and hope you get lucky

    The part where you have to insert a value for start, end and steps (basically the number of values you want to include in your table), the for start and end, the maximum you can go up to is between -14 and 14. Any range larger the calculator will say "insufficent space". Hence technically you can explore other roots of equations at a larger range than between -5 and 5.

    Hey bro I used to use this but it doesn't always work. If you have something like 2x^2 + 4x + 2, and you factorise u get the same answer as factorising x^2 + 2x + 1, but thats clearly wrong. You have to take out a factor (in this case 2), and then you factorise. Please put this in your video.

    Any ideas on how to solve this question,
    In triangle ABC, AC= 18cm, angle ABC= 60 degrees and sinA= 1/3
    Use the sine rule to show that BC= 4 root 3

    • @justinchi104
      @justinchi104 5 лет назад

      Taylor Shill I know this reply is a month late but here is how you do it:
      (I’m assuming you know the sine rule.)
      If you rearrange the equation to make BC the subject, you would get:
      BC=(AC x sinA)/sinB
      Since AC= 18cm, sinA= 1/3, and angle B is 60, you can deduce that:
      BC= (18 x 1/3)/sin60
      = 4 root 3
      Hope you understand it. :)

    START = The lowest value of f(x)
    END = Highest value of f(x)
    STEP = Numeric Interval between f(X) values
    So, START = 3, END = 6, STEP = 0.5, will give you f(x) values: 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6.

      jodiestardust If it's C1 then you're out of luck xD. This is for C2 and C4 I believe as you can use a calculator in those modules.

      Jono Shaw Wow, I thought it was non-calculator. Guess I was wrong. I thought it was going to be non-calculator like and C1 and then then C4 be calculator, well then - you learn something new everyday I guess.

    I think it's important to note that this method will not work immediately for functions which have coefficients of x³ or x². It will still give you the roots, but you will not get the correct set of brackets if you go from those values.
    Instead, if the coefficient of x² for example, is 2, then there's going to be a bracket that involves 2x. In This case, use 0.5 as your step. If the coefficient is 3, use ⅓ as the step, you get the idea. Then if you get an answer like X = ½, the bracket will be (2x-1).
    Or, just buy the better fx-991ES calculator. It'll save you a lot of time and it has some very useful statistics functions too.
    If money is no object, go for a graphical calculator such as the fx-9750GII. I can't express how useful the graphical calculator is for A-level maths, especially when you get to A2 and start dealing with modulus graphs. Both of the aforementioned calculators are allowed by JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) and so are allowed in to any A-level maths exam where a calculator is permitted.
    Anyway, I hope this helps someone, and good luck in May/June!

    This just utilises the factor and remainder theorem. It check values from -5 to 5 and shows the remainder when they are input into the function instead of x. When rem is zero the value is a root of the function which means (x and the inverse value) is a factor that divides it perfectly. Know the maths not tricks ffs
