TDR Nova is a free plugin with dynamic EQ and it's what I've been using in the instances where I need it as a Studio One 5 user. Often it gets used in a similar situation to your room mic application, in that 3-5K range where sources can get a little harsh at times but you don't want to cut the whole frequency and lose the life from the track.
@@piscesman54 I haven’t had a problem with it, but I usually only use it in a couple of instances. I can see how it might cause issues if you use it all over a mix.
Hey Joe, for what it's worth, I find the lengthier discussion very helpful. This video demonstrated the problem that needed a solution, then showed in detail the workaround you chose and included discussion as to *why* and what your thought process was. In the end, I am much more likely to gain a benefit from this video by understanding the thought process and modelling my own decision-making processes accordingly than I am from anything else. I really appreciate you taking the time to walk through the problem-solving workflow step-by-step, rather than just telling people to turn on this or that or the other plugin.
I have in my small stack of plug-ins, the free TRD Nova dynamic EQ, Waves F6, and the stock dynamic EQ from my Studio One Artist 6. I've been using the Waves F6 and have tried the Studio One variant. I've yet to use the free Nova. Yes I have more plug-ins than needed, but I had to find which one gave me the results I'm after. Honestly, I only have a few EQs compared to my compressor selection. Anyway, great video on the dynamic EQ. Joe always has some great info.
one of the best features I've been using dynamic EQ for lately is using the sidechain feature to duck certain frequencies to get things to pop more. I.E. have like 50 or 100 hz on my bass track getting attenuated everytime a kick hits to make it pop out in front a bit more. gives the kick clarity without that super pumpy electronic music sound of sidechain compression. same with getting vocals to have more calrity over say a thick wall of electric guitars. get more vocal clarity but then have really thick nice sounding guitars when theres no vocals.
Yeah, I recently quit buying anymore mixing plugins, unless I need it for a very specific purpose. Saved a lot of money this year. Haha. Good tips, Joe.
Hi there, Joe! Thank you for all the helpful videos! I’ve been loving the new EP and was wondering if you had CD’s for sale. Thank you for all you do for us home studio-ers!
The snare sounded great! It had its own character. Maybe move the EQ but don't mute the rings completely. My advice as just a listener is don't circumcise it Ask others first.
Same thing happened to me. I switched to Mac and studio one at the same time from windows and protools. Couldn’t be bothered installing plugins so just sent stock. My mixes are way better.
Great advice on plugins. I think when you are new you need to find your groove (read find my platform). That means DAW, EQ, Instruments, etc. After doing it for 6 years I've settled on Reason, Native Instruments, FabFilter, and Orangetree.
Great videos Joe! Thanks for all the free content, I’ve learned so much!…. I just got a m1 macbook with the Presonus 1810c interface… only one of the headphone jacks work, any ideas? A/b button? Cue mix? Idk? Couldn’t find any answers in the manual, thanks for any help!:)
Ha. Just as I'm looking at a famous 3rd party EQ during the week of Black Friday sales. Is that what's going on here? Maybe... I should save a few bucks. 🤔
Not a hater - but it was nearly seven minutes into the video before you got to the topic. I'm moving on. Respect the reality that time is precious - share what you are going to share - we don't need seven minutes of backstory.
You made my workflow better. Thank you for all your videos.

TDR Nova is great. The only problem I see with it is it's a huge CPU eater. Have you experienced that problem?

Congratulations Joe on starting your band!🤩 Let's go rock 'n' roll!💪
Thanks Joe!! Good information!! I use TDS-Nova and you just made me aware of ways to use it more effectively..
Thank you Joe for all the great videos, you have helped me so much!
Best Studio One channel ever.

Great tutorial! Thanks, Joe!
Thanks for the tips, Joe!!

Joe you mentioned EZ Drummer. Any chance of a tutorial on that software?

I love my Studio One so much❤️
Interesting, when I tried it just for fun I was unable to locate even basic functions like adding plugins to a track. :D Bitwig user.
I learnt it from the demo song which comes with Studio One.
Just feeding the algorithm for Uncle Joe..
Joe always brings good vibes back to the studio and my interest for engineering is awakened everytime I tune in :) thnx

That's funny, I just uninstalled reason.
Cheers, Joe 🙏🏻🤟

Do you have an online course with installment payments?
Simply shape the EQ around the sound, then use the volume to master it in your track.
To reduce the high frequencies on the room mic during just the choruses, could I use automation on a regular EQ as an alternative to dynamic EQ?
Joeeee💯💯💯
👍👍👍👍👍
👍🎵👍....concerning plugins: less is more!

9 minutes wasted before he starts
6 mins before you get to the point of the film? Good information but you ramble too much!

Wow the New 2022 Pro EQ3 GUI looks like the stone age version of Studio One V3. Not good & for that reason won't be upgrading to V6
Feel you
to much personal details and not enough about the subject = boring!!!
This guy talks too much
