Thanks so much Pete. I think you did a great job with this video, and what I liked the most is the comprehensive nature of it- you not only focus on the “what”, but encourage the need to focus on the “why”, which, as an engineer by profession I really appreciate. Well done
I have a 99 accord v6 I tested my antifreeze today I have two testers an older type with the balls it was -10 the peak tester was -43 I have a few days comeing of snow wandering if pertection is ok.
Really great info and explained in a clear way. After watching this I'm thinking about getting a "refractometer". I've never heard of those before this , do you have any recommendations as to what brand to purchase??
So, was it the original factory fill, and if so what was the mileage? My owners manual says first coolant service is due at 120.000 miles!! I dont buy that!!
I don't remember if it was the original fill or not, nor do I remember the mileage. Neither should be considered, in my opinion, when determining when to service the coolant. For example, Class 8 tractors get 400,000 - 500,000 miles on their coolant fills but they are tested routinely and additives are replenished when necessary. We don't have that option - so if the coolant loses its additives we have to replace the coolant and correct the reason for the premature service.
