@@turrock276 EA certainly shares some of the blame, but even if Bioware was an independent studio, Veilguard still would have turned out much the same. The veteran employees that made the games we loved just aren't there anymore, they all left.
I'll be finishing the game tonight. Hit the point of no return monday night. Had to stop and save there because I'm on shift at work until 6pm tonight.. 7on 7off 12hr shifts hurt gaming at times 😂. Like you said a solid 6-6.5. I agree with pretty much everything you said. They messed up not having a party tank available early like chapter 1 early. Not that it matters, I played warrior and was still auto targeted over the other warrior characters. Back to BG3 and Origins after tonight.. heck maybe The First Descendant unless its nothing but bunnies and freynas everywhere 😂
You know, reading this made me think of something. Both assassins creed and dragon age suffered because it’s almost like they released too late. Looking at dragon age veilguard, there is just too much competition to compare it to and it’s just lacking compared to everything else. If I want a fantasy setting with action combat, why would you play veilguard when you can play final fantasy xvi? If you want a more traditional meaty crpg, why play veilguard when Baldurs gate 3 exists? I may still wait for the inevitable Black Friday sale for this game, but it’s just crazy to me that they could look at the competition and just think this will sell. Even without the identity politics, it just looks so basic.
It's been so long since I played Inquisition, I hadn't really considered the implications of this being a canon sequel. The fact that Solas' story ended in a cliffhanger and is being resolved by THIS game, and the fact that he looks like this 25:29 is kind of upsetting.
honestly I dont know why people like Solas that much. I like Dragon age. I think Inqusition is a very bad game. And I can barely remember solas. Also the player reaction to that awful subpar game, directly resulted in Veilgaurd.
The boss fight you mentioned as the worst in the game: I just wanted to point out that you were using entirely ice abilities/attacks against it, when it is resistant to ice... which will dramatically increase the amount of time it takes to kill it.
What is the correct play in such a situation I wonder. Is there a way to know in advance what resistances you are going against? Or can you adjust your gear and skills during the fight?
I only disagree on the spongey damage enemy health. My rogue is absolutely ripping through health bars with a necrotic/bleed build on hard both damage dealt by enemies and enemy health.
I’m tired of people say Andromeda was not a success when clearly andromeda had better combat an honestly if it wasn’t for andromeda I probably would of never came back to ME
Whenever a game talks down to you and dumbs everything down for you, make you feel like a 10 year old kid, I feel insulted by the developers. Let me, as a player, feel the consequences of my actions in an RPG game, let me wonder about how my choices might affect the characters and story down the line. The game's decisions aren't real, they give just an illusion of choice as everything will eventually lead to the same outcome. I haven't seen any meaningful gear visual progression, they looked the same at level 1 at end game. Also, it's not a dark fantasy game like Origins was, or just even a fantasy, so it's a pass for me.
The devs went too safe considering the studio's pass failures. It made one feel there could have been more additions and few more things to improve the experience. As you said, it's not a bad game but not a great game. Just ok
Why would anyone want to replay this game? When the combat is mediocre the story is laughable. The choices have no consequences. I dont understand the bulletsponge criticism... I killed on night mare everything in just a couple of hits... Of course with the caviat that I finetuned my builds. I dont think the enemy health is an issue, I think the issue is that 90% of builds in this game simply do not work (Which is of course a game issue. It means it was not game tested enough). I just finished it myself as well, went for a full 100% completion. Initially before playing, not going to lie, i jumped on a hate bandwagon a bit. But now after playing it for myself, i have to say, while not perfect, it was actually a pretty enjoyable game. Superb visuals and optimization, combat felt great as a staff mage, the length was just right at just shy of 70 hours in my case, the world looks absolutely gorgeous, especially in elven areas but also necropolis which i found really cool. Certainly a game i plan to play again just to try other class and see if i can get a bad ending and see how that all plays out. All that said, its not without problems, the lack of references to events from previous games for one. Only Inquisition was really mentioned to some extent, and even that felt like too little. Also dialogue seemed a bit too modern at times and i felt it didn't fit the fantasy setting but when it happened i just chose to brush it of as silly and moved on and by doing that overall the game felt better. Story could have been done better but act 2 and 3 especially i felt were really well done, such a great ending for the world of Thedas if you get the best possible ending. Combat also felt really good as a staff mage i felt, but i played on story mode so probably that's why, its my looter shooter brain enjoying when stuff gets deleted pretty fast and lowest difficulty provides that, especially later on when you max out your build. Higher difficulty just didn't feel good in comparison because of the insane health pools. I guess its just a preference thing. As for characters, i would say there really is only one out of the entire team that i really didn't like and that's Taash for reasons stated above, she just didn't land for me. So overall, i enjoyed it and would give it a solid 7/10.
The game that had me say: Bioware is dead after I played that and ME2. The game that made me stop buying bioware titles was... Well recieved? Please say it ain't true or gamers as a group are even dumber than I thought they were.

I played through all of the characters missions. I get it, but it doesn't hit you unless you fully playthrough her full arc. Taash is a non binary character. They were also at odds with it. I hope that adds some context. I enjoyed her companion missions probably yhe most actually.
9/10 for me. Just finished this morning. It definitely feels like this was closure on the Dragon Age series (in a good way, for me anyway). Corrine Busch was correct- DAV is a complete game- zero need for dlc to flesh things out. That being said, it could get an expansion if they wanted, but again, not terribly necessary. Fun combat, enjoyable companions and storylines, beautiful visuals and satisfying ending.
As a long-term fan of the franchise myself, I don’t buy the arguments some people calling themselves big fans have about the lore, sorry. The game has continued and developed themes that have been in the games since Origins. It nails the dark fantasy in a way that hasn’t really been present since Origins (starting with D’Meta’s Crossing and everything involving the Blight), varied with the goofy humor that they’ve always used to break the ice “swooping is bad”. It answers questions that fans have had from the start about the Old Gods of Tevinter, the Forgotten Ones, and the Evanuris in a way that is consistent with the information that is presented there. Furthermore, the game follows up on lore from all corners of the franchise. Masked Empire is put into the forefront again with Felassan’s perspective being highlighted. Maevaris showing up in Minrathous is an absolute delight. Isabela getting to live her dream as a pirate captain is wonderful to see. It builds on Origins, it builds on 2, it builds on Inquisition. It has difficult boss fights with difficulty options to match. It has some Cronenbergian levels of horror while still being sensitive in what it explores. It knows that darkness needs light and does so with more than just a bit of comedy. To say that the game doesn’t respect the previous entries in the franchise is frankly disingenuous. It has so much respect for what came before. It many ways it feels so much more like a sequel than the previous games specifically because it picks up on and follows the plot threads as established, rather than introducing new ones. 2 and Inquisition all have you starting over in a new place with a new story. 2 only slightly follows up from Ferelden and the Blight, mostly dealing with the fallout. Inquisition straight-up skips the mage-templar war that 2 spends its entire second half building up to. Veilguard actually follows from Inquisition, continues what Fen’harel is up to and develops it while still leaving him a relevant threat. I haven’t finished the game yet, only about halfway through (maybe a bit more), but this feels like the successor I want from a Dragon Age in 2024. I’m not the child I was when I played Origins, I’m a grown-ass adult with a whole other set of worries and horrors. The world has grown up since then, and I’m glad that Dragon Age has too.
I've mentioned this before. If you have paid for this game and it is too late to return it, if you want to get your money out of the game by playing it, put it on easy/story mode to get past the combat as quickly as possible, since the combat is the most time-wasting and mindless part of the game.
Almost every video talks more than just the woke politcs in the game. It's not just "woke" but some of the writers are political activists and their writing is awful. Since you have multiple people working on the game that doesn't mean all of the writing is awful. Most agrees the beginning and the ending are the best parts and if the rest of the game was that good they could deal with the woke politics.
A 6/10 would be too generous, it's more like 3.5 - 4/10. The writing is abysmal, the story itself is mediocre at best and the characters and many creatures look cartoonish. The environments generally look great though and so does the hair. And don't get me started on the combat with all the annoyingly flashy effects. If I want flashy effects, I'd play a bloody mage not a warrior or a rogue. It doesn't help that I don't like action combat in RPGs, especially not in party-based RPGs.
We all know the "mature" rating itself is to attract children instead of something like a movie rating like pg, r, x. As a child I seek to be mature , be like my dad. Most things label "mature" are actually "immature" in games.
So they could’ve done the minion thing but in the past games they show those as bad magic that should never be used because you have to summon demons to possess the bodies with blood magic to be able to use the “undead” but you’re supposed to be the hero your not supposed to be a bad guy in this game you’re trying to save the world and keep morale up the entire time that’s why I think they didn’t give us any interactions to make our companions mad it is very simplified
@ spirits and demons are one in the same a demon is a spirit twisted by human desires and can be made to possess a body by binding it I never used that skill tree in origins so idk how that one works
Yet in this very video this guy implores you to NOT look at it as a dragon age game.......but for some reason people angry about the game are incels rather than people with legitimate complaints?
This seems fair, I gave it an 8.5 because I didn't think the writing was that bad (it even has some great moments). My biggest issue is when videos like this blatantly lie about the combat/mechanics of the game.
@@AKABoondock19 Not the people with legitimate complaints, I have them too, but the people who focus on the non binary/trans/LGBT stuff when I can play the game for dozens and dozens of hours with no mention of it. The people who made it sound like around every corner someone was going to have a minority character and they would be a problem.
This is nonsense what you re saying, about a game calling itself DAge, fueling itself from DAge notoriety and success, and you ask to not take it in consideration or expectation. Its like goin in steak restaurant you re used to, asking for a steak in the menu, and when you eat it has not the taste of meat. And you re informed, its a vegan imitation with no meat... Of course expectation matters, over past experience, its why in game industry they do sequel to thrive on succes of past product. So expectation are part of the process for both sides. You used to be more smart than that. People buy DAge Failguard, expectecting a natural sequal of previous game. And not a generic action game, they will have not buy if they knew. And the farcical reviews are proof they wanted to hide that.
I get the concept but I just can't buy into it. Subjectively, I see it as a weak storytelling device to encourage you to do alternate questlines rather than something that reinforces my immersion. If Taash is truly a legendary Dragon Slayer and seasoned warrior of her tribe I have a hard time believing that a lack of family dinners is what brings about her demise in the battle to save the world. Just my opinion, though.
@@EloyBushida yeah but used extremely poorly. Most s!icude mission companions quests were more than just "I have an emotional booboo and I need a hug before I can do on". The ME companion quests (and previous DA games quests) *actually* impacted the companion's ability to stay with the protag until the end of the game. IE Blackwall getting arrested, Zevran being kidnapped/killed if his quest wasn't resolved, Thane making sure his son was safe etc. Those quests were way more impactful than "I'm saaaaad".
They don’t want to pay good writers. But even if the writing is subpar…no excuse to completely change the style of the game. Makes no sense. Dragon Age Inquisition was fantastic and GOTY. The franchise is known for their great strategy based combat and story.
Veilguard was such a crushing disappointment to me as a long-time Dragon Age fan. I can tolerate slightly mid gameplay from Bioware, they were always traditionally about narrative, dialogue and characterisation anyway. But they can't even begin to get that right anymore apparently. Almost the entire cast felt like edgy teenagers constantly trying to out-quip each other and their interactions in many cases were so utterly banal it felt like a waste of money paying the voice actors to say it. And this is the company we're getting Mass Effect 5 from?
0/10. This game is a awful. It’s not just the obvious propaganda and gender based agenda. Everything about it has an ugliness coated with a Paint of glowing purple and a pointless, empty story.
What are you talking about....the game sucks because of all the woke dialog.. not cuz game play or any other reason..stop making excuses and ignoring the truth why the game sucks ..sale out...
This game was fine and i enjoyed it. Sure it wasn't a 10/10, but i'm suprised on the amount of negative comments this game has. This review feels spot on. I think Bioware wanted to play safe on this game, which seems logical.
I'm having fun with the game. There's been a few games over the last three years that from before they even release, it's just popular to hate on them and it causes a lot of people to miss a game that they otherwise would have enjoyed. And while this game is no masterpiece, it's a fun game to play inside the dragon age universe. The combat is fun, the progression is fun, the exploration is fun, and the overall story seems to be pretty good.
Great game. Super upload✌🏼. Right now I just reached character limit 3 but only starting now. I have to reload the game and I’m going crazy. This needs a patch. 2024, they could at leave try. I’m on console with 2 TB. #dragonageveilguard
I honestly don't know how anyone can make a serious argument that the progression/combat in this game is dumbed down. Character builds and gearing are significantly deeper than previous Dragon Age games and deeper than most other RPGs. Yes, if you compare it to something like the Pathfinder games (Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous) or Diablo style games like Path of Exile it's going to be simplified, but compared to other action RPGs like The Witcher or God of War I think Veilguard's systems and combat are a lot more refined. Heck, even though BG3 is my favorite game I'd say the combat in Veilguard is also deeper than BG3's, but that's mostly because D&D 5e is a really shallow RPG system.
solid note don't listen to dumb hateful idiots when it comes to media... they ruin everything... combat great, level structure great, mission structure great, side missions no fetch quests big fucking win... full story on release came out with only a few bugs.... also curios to hear if you reset and tried multiple builds with your character. 7 out of Ten which considering their first build of this game was trashed by EA (which was going to be an origin style game) then forced to make it multiplayer then finally given the ability to make a single player game based off the multiplayer build which is prolly why this feels so different from other dragon age games... hopefully with mass effect 5 they get free reign from the get go... and stay the hell away from open world....
@@turrock276 Using ad hominem attacks doesn't help your case. If something is actually in a game then it's fair for someone to criticize it. If the game was called Dragon Age Make the Kingdom Great Again and in the game you had to find a cure to the "woke" virus those of the left would criticize the game for having right wing politics and I would agree with their criticism.

It's a fun game to me are ppl mad about the fact you can flirt with the opposite sex lol if you like girls like girls in the game lol....
Well, I mean they totally reconned almost every aspect of the lore, so I guess it's redundant complaining about any one single thing lol.
I've mentioned this before. If you have paid for this game and it is too late to return it, if you want to get your money out of the game by playing it, put it on easy/story mode to get past the combat as quickly as possible, since the combat is the most time-wasting and mindless part of the game.
Anyone buying without knowing what they're getting into, almost of deserve getting ripped off
can someone in tell me the game is bad for the woke topic or is actually bad?? I dont mind the woke things, just want to have a good time
Almost every video talks more than just the woke politcs in the game. It's not just "woke" but some of the writers are political activists and their writing is awful. Since you have multiple people working on the game that doesn't mean all of the writing is awful. Most agrees the beginning and the ending are the best parts and if the rest of the game was that good they could deal with the woke politics.
you still havent addressed the issue whether the hate was justified? because you are simply telling all the reason why everyone hated it.
Well, it's the REASON why we hate it... so I'd say the aggressive dislike count for this 'game' IS justified.
Yes.... the M for "matured" Target audience lol.
Hmm
We all know the "mature" rating itself is to attract children instead of something like a movie rating like pg, r, x. As a child I seek to be mature , be like my dad.
Most things label "mature" are actually "immature" in games.
@@smidlee7747 And this game is immature in its writing.
I think reanimating the dead isnt a forbidden spell in Dragon age. In Origins its a spirit spell.
@ spirits and demons are one in the same a demon is a spirit twisted by human desires and can be made to possess a body by binding it I never used that skill tree in origins so idk how that one works
Taash died because of what it "identifies" as.
Her pronouns are was were
Seems like they turned Dragon Age to a mobile game you play on the toilet
It's better than incels would have you believe, but it's no 9 or 10 out of 10 either. It's a 7 or 8 for me.
And the farcical reviews are proof they wanted to hide that.
if your minds not on the game you perform under par, hope this helps for you understanding taash's death
@@DrybearGamers Its the same system/logic they used in Mass Effect 2. If you skip (or botch) the companion quests they die in the final mission.
Yeah but also, if you don't do your job you get fired. The end of the world doesn't care if you fix your feels.
@@noctoi if that's what you got from the companion quests in veilguard I question your media literacy.
ROFL are you saying the gameplay is GOOD?!?!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. I hope the devs continue making games despite the contention.
Great game. Super upload✌🏼. Right now I just reached character limit 3 but only starting now. I have to reload the game and I’m going crazy. This needs a patch. 2024, they could at leave try.
I’m on console with 2 TB. #dragonageveilguard
Great if you're a normie
game looks incredibly mid from just the clips you put in the video
:(
When First Descendant?
Watching this I thought was seeing a reskin of Hogwarts Legacy……..
Yes, dragon age pronoun guard had it not had the name would as a mediocre fantasy game riding off the coattails of Bulder’s gate 3
Drybear sucking off the devs as usual 😂
Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me
I honestly don't know how anyone can make a serious argument that the progression/combat in this game is dumbed down.
So if I don’t want gay propaganda and I liked the previous games what would be there to recommend me to play just a mid tedious combat bad dialog game
there is no gay propaganda, you're just homophobic.
Mod Skyrim. Stop funding modern day gayming, they hate your guts and want you replaced.
solid note don't listen to dumb hateful idiots when it comes to media... they ruin everything... combat great, level structure great, mission structure great, side missions no fetch quests big fucking win... full story on release came out with only a few bugs.... also curios to hear if you reset and tried multiple builds with your character.
Enjoyer of slop
You just described thta you dont have self respect and you consider the bare minimum great.
@@schmidth remember the dumb hateful idiots i mention way to tell on yourself my guy.
@smidlee7747 define woke.... What you call woke or left wing policies I call late stage capitalism and corporations targeting new potential targets to make more money.... This is why culture war idiots are stupid because they don't know how the world works.... Also again important note this is why you shouldn't take culture war idiots seriously because they dumb....
