Because everywhere I've been in life castlevania either gets the "never heard of it but won't ever try it" response or shat on. Its so incredibly refreshing to see that there are actually people put there who love this franchise. IV is probably a top 10 game for me, so I cant wait to fully watch this!
Mostly I just never stop hearing about SotN whenever Castlevania gets brought up. I'm an alien I guess, but I just can't relate to the ubiquitous enthusiasm for SotN or the other "metroid" style games in the series...just never been into mazes and backtracking, let alone the flat anime aesthetic slapped on top of it all (I'm more a fan of the Western "Gothic" style of the earlier games' promotional art). The best iteration of the adventures of Simon "Thunder Thighs" Belmont. Edit: The Castlevania nerd in me is speaking loud so allow me to share a few fun facts about this game. The "Tongue Skull" enemy at 39:25 is known as a "Puweyxil". It got renamed to Man Eater in later games, even becoming a boss in Order of Ecclesia. Now, if you are wondering what the heck a Puweyxil is, just read the name backwards. There you go. The Golem at 46:09 is known as "Koranot". Read it backwards again. All that spinning and shrinking and growing and whatnot that they achieved with his sprite is *cheating* , because in actuality he's the *background* of the whole scene. Notice how the whole place goes dark all of a sudden, that is the reason why. The exact same effect is used with Bowser during the final battle of Super Mario World. At around 1:05:22 Vinny almost accidentally found one of this game's best kept secrets!! If Simon keeps whipping at that very ground, a hidden staircase can take you to a secret hallway full of candles, complete with it's own special music and a unique enemy. A ghost nobleman that sends his creepy zombie dog after you. This guy also returns in later games as a more common enemy. The ghost dancers at 1:20:47 are special from the other more generic ones that appear in later games, not just because they are bosses but because they actually have names! These two drongos here are known as *Fred Askare* and *Paula Abghoul*
Additional fun fact: Puwexil's "tongue" is the real monster, a giant worm residing inside the skull. I was a dumb kid and thought of it as a bunch of almonds when I first saw it though. And not helping is that the falling rocks in that battle use the same sprite as the worm's segments. Also I think the zombie dog's owner is supposed to be a ghostly groundskeeper.

Basically, all yakuza run industries. Video games are seen as wasteful in Japan, given the hard working mentality of their culture. The primary method of takeover in these businesses is to have Yakuza members infiltrate executive boards and essentially disrupt affairs until it's understood that they have final say. For video games, this is usually as a front company. The games themselves are likely funded by money from illegal sources, and is effectively laundered through the development process. Sure, you can make any of the thousands of schlock games that came out in ps1 and ps2 era, likely for that exact reason, but it's even more effective to convert company assets to pachinko - especially if you have a legacy to use as a lure. You take money from one shady operation, gamble all of it in your own machines, and since they're yours, you just take the money back out. If there's any kind of investigation, it's hard to trace where that money came from after it's been put in a machine. This is likely why Konami has no real interest in video games anymore: they never really had an interest to start. This is also why everyone under their umbrella with an interest in video games left. Nintendo has some of the distribution rights from their early days, so those games will sometimes resurface, but there's little chance Konami is going to waste perfectly good dirty money to appease fans they never really cared about. Maybe if it takes the least amount of effort possible, like cameo rights and selling creative licenses. Geez this was my favorite Castlevania game in the entire series but even though I played it hundreds of times during my childhood, I couldn't for the life of me make it past Stage 4! It was so hard! I love it anyway though, I thought it was the coolest thing how every time you beat a stage it would give you a overview map of your progression towards the goal. I love it when games give you a overworld like Super Mario 3 did

If it were a matter of people not liking the game that would be fine. Instead I have to listen to people complain about things that are unexplained that are explained or worse, hear complaining about emo shit. There's not liking FF 8 and then there's being wrong about it. A lot of people are wrong about it. Keep in mind, discussion isn't typically welcome here besides. I've said I don't like a game. I don't remember which game. Let's say Mother. And I was basically told to kill myself. And insulted in many other ways besides. It was a game 'chat' liked but I had something to say so I said it. Not rudely either. The community picks and chooses what game gets squad protection. FF8 won't be one of those games. FF9 was. I tried to explain a complaint I had with FF9 (the fanbase) and why and Vinny pretty much responded to laugh at me. How do you think it feels knowing that if you're remembered at all by the Channel Creator he thinks your some asshole because he only ever 'chooses' to see when voice a complaint or dislike of something? It fucking sucks. It fucking sucks that the only thing I've ever gotten from the community is ridicule. Whenever I might have offered a negative opinion all I wanted was discussion. I don't care about trolling. None of what I'm saying now has much to do with the original point but still. I've been here 6 years and I've said more nice or innocuous things than not. uuufhhhgghh the music in the game is so good. The composer(s?) really fucking cared. Its not like, mind blowing, but it feels like there's a definitive vision for a lot of the tracks. Like there was a feeling they were trying to accomplish with the tools & effects they had, rather than just scoring as bg music
talking about good song soundtracks in the middle of the video 55:00, god I love Devil May Cry's soundtrack. There's a lot of stuff like vinny described, short looping experiences, that I really enjoy and can load on my phone and listen while I'm out and about. But like... Bury the Light is really *really* good too. Playing through DMCV and hearing Devil Trigger go into overdrive when you get into S-rank is one of my favourite game experiences music-wise.
In regards to movement and castlevania purist. As someone prefers the older castlevania's, its not that I think it HAS to be that way, it's just in castlevania 4, there is almost no reason to use the items. The items are suppose to cover the weakness of your basic abilities and you're suppose to pick the right item for the right situation. I think Bloodlines has the best compromise of giving you more attack directions while still making items useful. Castlevania 4 is still one of my favorites though, its just so good.
Oh, my first horror game... The memories of me putting the game on my SNES, turning it on, and never pressing start when the game reaches the title screen.
Remember: This collection kicked off Haunted Castle (the first Arcade Castlevania) onto other Konami compilation in favor of Kid Dracula. At least the game is translated now.

On a general note about the game, can we talk about how actually impressive the scale of Dracula's territory is, and what a bro the guy is for letting so many other monsters reside on and even seemingly have some control over parts of his property? And just how much of the castle in each game actually goes unexplored when you really think about it?
I think a valid complaint about Castlevania IV is that the whip is way too strong, there's not really a reason to use the subweapons. They seem like they're there more because someone in development said "We can't just leave them out, it wouldn't be Castlevania!"
@@Lucas-db2jq I mean, say what you like about Arin (don't really care one way or the other for that dude), but I believe he did bring up some good points in that particular Sequelitis. The range of the whip does undermine the point of the sub-weapons, which in turn (for me, at least) somewhat robs the game of the signature methodical platforming and combat that is present in the other classic-style Castlevanias. I do think Castlevania IV is an excellent game, but considering the fact Konami never returned to that control style and the franchise still thrived in spite of that decision, the game can't help but feel like a black sheep of the series to me.
@@UshiUshiKakuThe2nd I understand your point, but I still use plenty of the sub weapons when I play this game. You can even see Vinny making use of them right here, seeking the double throwing power up even! And it's hard to say that the franchise "thrived in spite" of the whip mechanics in this game, considering we only got Dracula X and Rondo of Blood afterwards and then the massive change in gameplay from Symphony of the Night took place.
Nah, it's underrated. Probably the most cryptic game of all time, but certainly with quite a few merits. I like it more than 3, because 3 is completely infuriating with how broken it is with the US release.
I recommend you, a reimagining called Rebitten, combines the difficulty and the gameplay of a more traditional castlevania and the exploration factor very well.
_Rattle me bones!!_ Despite its controversial place among the Castlevania lineup, it's easily my favorite in the series for how easy it is to just pick up and play whenever and have a good time. I livestreamed it 3 years in a row for Halloween, and wouldn't you know it, the Dungeon is also right about where I always needed a break, if not a full-on restart after a game over. Tough stuff. _Trivia Time:_ The Second Quest, which I just finished this month, is surprisingly not that different from the first run. There's some surprises and extra bullshit in the first few levels, but towards the end it feels exactly the same, which is a shame - I'd loved to have seen more enemies outside of their native levels, like the centipe- actually, nevermind
Fun fact that no one wants to acknowledge for some reason: Simon was always a redhead and he was never actually supposed to look like Conan. Also, yes, Vinny, Ayami Kojima's redesign of Simon WAS well received. Unless you're talking about the Takeshi Obata version from Judgement, in which case A. that's literally based on Kojima's design, and B. Judgement isn't canon anyway, so why bother complaining as though it is?
I'm so gravely disappointed that you entirely skipped the introduction dialogue with the great music before the main menu screen! Where the lightning bolt destroys a grave and releases Dracula! How could you just skip that part!? That was vital story informations!
Did Vinny ever comment on the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 DLC and would he still be interested in it? He said that he would play potential DLC but that was over a year and a half ago. The DLC drops in November. Can any dedicated Vinesauce viewer answer me this?
Dang it, Nintendo. Could've given me some extra Mario content on the 3D Collection. It would've been a photo gallery of Miyamoto's pets and I would've considered it a damn good collection.
People only talk shit about castlevania 4 because they watched Arin's video. Arin being the same person who thinks metroidvania is not a good term to describe a genre because he prefers Super Metroid over Symphony.
"Search Action" works way better. They probably came up with it after seeing Character Action, just place the emphasis before the primary gameplay type. When people make metroidvania's I feel like they get lost looking at two primary example games and forget they're making their own thing that doesn't have to be like metroid or castlevania.
These ports are very good and I can't believe they were bashed upon release. The only problems I remember were audio issues in 1 and no JP 3 and both were patched not long after. Not as shiny as M2's Sega Ages/3D Classics or their ShotTriggers ports but still better output than most.

TL;DR: Konami most likely accidentally made great games while trying to hide illegal dealings, and they don't plan on going back.
Father Pucci - Made in Heaven
Rondo of Blood was originally released on the PC Engine, not the PlayStation.
literally just finished playing through this game for the 100th time and saw your video. it's cool to see you give this game some attention. it's definitely one of the better titles in the series.
I love it when games give you a overworld like Super Mario 3 did
It's about damn time, Vinny! Now I'm just waiting on Final Fantasy 8 on my list of "Games Vinny talks about all the time, yet either hasn't played or streamed back in 2010"
I'd rather he not play that so I don't have to listen to chat or youtube commentors bitch about the game.
@@bongchoof Aww, don't be like that. People will complain about anything, just don't pay them mind. You can't expect everyone to appreciate all the same games you do.
@@bongchoof You never had to do that to begin with lol. Just focus on the stream and ignore the rest if you're oversensitive about it
@@Onigirli 'Oversensitive.' I feel about the way I should about it. It's also not about people being unable to 'appreciate' the same games I do. There's reading text and not reading text.
People would rather attack me than answer me. Sometimes a question is just that.
Sorry, this reply was all over the place.
Vinny's favorite Castlevania because babby mode SMILERS
Wish Adventure ReBirth was added to the collection. Great Castlevania game that a lot of ppl haven't played.
20:35 How it feels to play Sheik in Melee
Oh man, more Castlevaniasauce yay.
I played this and symphony before school. This is memories.
uuufhhhgghh the music in the game is so good.
YAAAASSSSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!!!
Thank you for putting it into plain english for me!
Oh, my first horror game... The memories of me putting the game on my SNES, turning it on, and never pressing start when the game reaches the title screen.
I’m disappointed that no one told Vinny about the secret room in level six! He even cracked the floor for it and mentioned it
Remember: This collection kicked off Haunted Castle (the first Arcade Castlevania) onto other Konami compilation in favor of Kid Dracula. At least the game is translated now.
Who cares? That game sucks.
Worthy trade
Vinny's making the easiest vintage Castlevania look difficult again.
Up until 3:40 Vinny explores the Castlevania Anniversary Collection's bonus features which is erroneously described as being played on the PC. After this, he starts the titled game.
This, along with Donkey Kong Country I would have to say is one of the greatest games to ever come out of the entire SNES.
God, the music in this game is so fucking good.
It's not one of Yamane's OST's, but it's still sick.
i've always been kinda sad that I never got to experience huge leaps in graphics like from the nes to the snes and stuff. since I had a 360, wii u, and then xbox one, it was just incrimental increases. I never got people who would rant over graphics, like Red Dead 2 and Pikmin 3 look just as good to me. I think the only game that made me stop and notice the graphics was probably playing BOTW and Mario Odyssey, and then from Fire Emblem Fates to Echoes i remember it blowing my mind for some reason.
VR is going to be the 3d of your generation I think
@@GrandDawggy the only VR i have tried is labo VR, and i know that isnt like anywhere near what real VR can do, but it still was pretty cool. Maybe I'll get that new oculus or something
@@glasssawsslipperstraws7410 only buy occulus if you use Facebook because absolutely all of your games are linked to your Facebook account. Delete Facebook and delete all your vr games
Castlevania 1 is my favorite game ever and I think CV4 is just dandy. They're two very different games with unique strengths.
On a general note about the game, can we talk about how actually impressive the scale of Dracula's territory is, and what a bro the guy is for letting so many other monsters reside on and even seemingly have some control over parts of his property?
And just how much of the castle in each game actually goes unexplored when you really think about it?
Kinda wish Vinny would replay symphony of the night but a Richter playthough
I think a valid complaint about Castlevania IV is that the whip is way too strong, there's not really a reason to use the subweapons. They seem like they're there more because someone in development said "We can't just leave them out, it wouldn't be Castlevania!"
ok arin
35:57 Whipped irl
1:27:43 Crickets can flatten their bodies down to the thinness of a single sheet of paper, so good luck finding it...
Wallachia on Switch is by the same creator as the free Castlevania fan games, Lecarde Chronicles 1 & 2 - challenging but very good experiences.
22:58 I like Vinny's reference to his own song here.
Am I the only one who likes Castlevania 2 simon quest? It has flaws, but I like it somehow, it's Hard to say.
Nah, it's underrated. Probably the most cryptic game of all time, but certainly with quite a few merits. I like it more than 3, because 3 is completely infuriating with how broken it is with the US release.
It certainly is annoying to play.
I recommend you, a reimagining called Rebitten, combines the difficulty and the gameplay of a more traditional castlevania and the exploration factor very well.
Awesome collection!
38:08 A true TRUE new yorker gamer moment
Evil skull is kinda like undead speed Luigi
30:23 lol that genuine anger
_Rattle me bones!!_
Despite its controversial place among the Castlevania lineup, it's easily my favorite in the series for how easy it is to just pick up and play whenever and have a good time.
My favourite game of all time...
Vinny predicting Village Vampire lords name it made me think he said when he talked about the falling rocks
Oh fuck, this is the game Luigi from Smash is from.
I'm so gravely disappointed that you entirely skipped the introduction dialogue with the great music before the main menu screen! Where the lightning bolt destroys a grave and releases Dracula! How could you just skip that part!? That was vital story informations!
Oh no! Simon killed Dusa!
It's okay. Shell appear back in the styx pool and be back to work on time
this was my first ever castlevania game, i played it last year
LETS GOOOO BEST TRADTIONAL CASTLEVANIA
1:51:40 Kid Dracula defeats a klan member.
Did Vinny ever comment on the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 DLC and would he still be interested in it? He said that he would play potential DLC but that was over a year and a half ago. The DLC drops in November.
Can any dedicated Vinesauce viewer answer me this?
yesss... legally distinct vinnyvania
I will say that castlevania 2: belmonts revenge has the best soundtrack on the gameboy,

Dang it, Nintendo. Could've given me some extra Mario content on the 3D Collection. It would've been a photo gallery of Miyamoto's pets and I would've considered it a damn good collection.
this counts as spooptober
Huh, it's funny you're playing this. I just beat it on the collection and have started playing the DS games again starting with Dawn of Sorrow.
YES CASTLEVANIA 4
People only talk shit about castlevania 4 because they watched Arin's video. Arin being the same person who thinks metroidvania is not a good term to describe a genre because he prefers Super Metroid over Symphony.
The kid's one looks way more interesting than the others no kidding
38:00 for A
"Search Action" works way better. They probably came up with it after seeing Character Action, just place the emphasis before the primary gameplay type. When people make metroidvania's I feel like they get lost looking at two primary example games and forget they're making their own thing that doesn't have to be like metroid or castlevania.
I like"exploration Platformer"

These ports are very good and I can't believe they were bashed upon release. The only problems I remember were audio issues in 1 and no JP 3 and both were patched not long after. Not as shiny as M2's Sega Ages/3D Classics or their ShotTriggers ports but still better output than most.
Just know that the music
