One of the most underrated albums of this decade. Unique and innovative, with an actual artistic vision, while still being pretty good to straightforwardly enjoy and headbang to. It's a shame that this simply went below the rug. It's honestly sad how metal fans can be such conformists and they'd rather listen to what they've already heard a thousand times instead of something new and exciting.
I think Mr Anselmo has totally grown as a lyricist, and human being. This is excellent stuff, Pantera etc was great and still is - but this shows me how much the man has evolved. It's definately worth a listen is this. Love it. Just ordered it - can't wait to blare this out and piss off the neighbours.
Metal music is all about putting across a genuine intense feeling, hearing the character of the musicians. Phil does an amazing job of putting his personality, huge charisma and intensity into the music. In a world of hi-polish production and technical oneupmanship this is getting rarer to find.

PanterA is still my all time favorite. But as for the three surviving members. Superjoint was groove,thrash,hardcore masterpiece. Down was a hard rock,groove,heavy metal masterpiece. And the Illegals are Phil just proving, he invents his own style. Fuck genre's. This is just dirty distorted sludge, groove or something that is Phil's style. He can come up with his own genre. I call the entire genre Phil anselmo because he is a master of all rock and metal and always incorporating many styles together and doing it so well each project is it's own genre. As for vinnie hellyeah isn't even near that level. He was and is a great drummer. But without rex Phil and darrell hellyeah is just mudvayne with a better drummer. Wish vinnie would do a project with rex and Phil again.
