    Hi, I have a question. I have acquired 2 similar type BYD. And as you make know the charger port is a Female type GB/T Standard pin. Which is Chinese standard.
    Is there a possibility to change the pin from a GB/T standard pin to Type 2 European pin ( I believe the properties of both the types are the same but the receptors are opposite sides). Please advise us if this is possible based on your Experience.

    • @RaglansElectricBaboon
      @RaglansElectricBaboon  2 года назад

      The charge port on mine looks like a standard Type 2. I remember reading on maybe Wikipedia that the connection might be slightly different but it charges OK on Type 2 chargers. I don't know more than that sorry.

    E6 is the taxi/ride share model started in 2016. It’s built for heavy usage, many with over four hundred thousand miles on original battery are on the road. Chinese taxi driver typically replaces a new car every five years and about 440k miles.

    So question, as I'm about to pickup an E6 as my Leaf replacement, the contactor box being at the back on the top means that the battery is directly accessible via this box? a 62kWh battery, just sitting there that also works as a car?

      @@RaglansElectricBaboon certainly will, if I could get 200km at 100km/h I would be absolutely stocked. You might have missed something. It does have the contractors but they are in the HV power distribution unit that you did not know what it is on top of the pack. That contains contractors, more fuses, bus bars etc.
    So with the distributed BMS separate HV PDU and long HV cables from back to front, the level of integration is very low, plus the to-be-improced module designs, hence high weight etc.
    Although the safety is not ideal, it is not really because it does not have contractors but rather being they are in another enclosure. This is definitely not good but not as bad as no contractors which would be crazy. And you should really follow instructions to disconnect the MSD first before you touch any HV components. The moment you open the pack of the connectors, you become liable for your own safety without the company's problem. And the way how you test the bulb is very unsafe as well. So I would recommend you to be more careful next time.

    Hi Regan, I have one last question. The BYD shows a range of 300KM on a full charge. But when driven up to 50% the range drops noticed is drastic. And at instant sometimes in less than 5 mins, the battery kept dropping percentage every second. I would like to know what would be your thought. an email would be great to share some details, as I'm from Sri Lanka it's a rare car here. would appreciate your assistance in this regard.

    Are you interested in CAN sniffing any of the components? It looks like there are two interesting 250kbps CAN buses, one for powertrain and one for charger - and the BMS is connected to both of them.
    Source: imgur.com/a/hlEZooy from max.book118.com/html/2019/1027/5202344142002143.shtm
    There's a BMS pinout about halfway down this page where you can see the two CAN bus connections, but the text is too blurry to read much else: www.gzweix.com/article/sort0253/sort0254/sort0671/info-325886.html (can't find the original source for that diagram.)

      I'd not seen the insides of an E6 until your video. I'm interested in EV conversion projects in general and I figured that BYD had sold a lot of this drivetrain in China, so there must be parts from wrecks out there somewhere (I don't have any source for those, just a theory). And the motor specs look pretty good. So was excited to see someone actually poking at one (haven't found anyone doing this on Chinese internet).

    Not sure where to start with such bias video. What makes you such an expert in this old car when you don't even know what a contractor is? And you do need to work on the terrible camera shake.
    If you want people to take your video seriously, put aside your prejudices aside first and be honest with what is obviously very limited knowledge you have on EV cars.

    • @RaglansElectricBaboon
      @RaglansElectricBaboon  3 года назад +2

      I have no idea why a contractor is relevant to this :-P
      I know exactly what a contactor is thank you very much. I know that there are none in this battery. This is unusual and could lead to people getting shocked if they are unaware, hence my warning here.
      I have no prejudices, i am reporting my findings and preferences. I have driven the e6 for over 4000km since this video and my conclusion remains the same. It is a functional car but no more. The Tesla is absolutely fantastic. I'm sorry if this upsets you.
      Yes, I absolutely need to fix the camera shake. Any tips?

    • @brendanswift6755
      @brendanswift6755 5 месяцев назад

      Sorry but no conductors on the battery clearly is a safety issue, the battery pack is 300 volts DC, there should be a safe way to shut it down. Also of note, the oracat was recalled as owners were getting an electric shock off of the body of the vehicle while charging. And there there is the atto 3 showing clear signs of rust around the body mount points for the suspension components. I get the distinct feeling that chinese evs are built to a price point, that is making them of questionable safety
