I really love your videos. I'm at the very beginning of my artistic journey, as you would say. I find them very helpful and instructive.
This is just my opinion, but it's a bit of constructive criticism. You should either add voice to all your videos or, failing that, add voice to at least all new videos and i'll explain why I think you should.
First, you have a lovely voice. Your English is a little broken but not prohibitvely so. In fact, because you speak in a slow, clear, calm and sincere tone, it makes understanding what you mean to say very easy, which is already understandable. Please don't that the wrong way, I'm from the US, your English is better than many Americans. So, if self consciousness is your reason for using subtitles in some of your videos, then you have nothing to be self conscious about. If I had to guess, well, originally I thought you were Filipina but there's an extra note in your voice that makes me doubt that guess and that I can't place. It almost sounds Indian. Idk. Anyways, I digress.
Back to my point, if I had to guess, it's just easier to produce videos with subs rather than voice. Adding voice can be time consuming by having to re-record parts you don't like, whereas with subs, you type what you want to say one time and it's done.
Here's the thing, your videos are, by definition, demonstrative. That means that to get the most out of your videos, the viewer must pay attention to what you're doing, at least, as much as what you're saying, which is difficult if the viewers attention is split between what you're doing and what you're saying in subs. To simplify what I'm saying, subs require the viewers eyes which makes them in competition with what you're doing on camera. With your voice, there's no competition since the viewer uses their ears to process auditory information, obviously.
Lastly, voice is more engaging than subtitles. It will help to grow your channel and to have people coming back in a way that subs just cannot replicate. If growing your channel is important to you then you must change to add voice. It's ok to add subs in addition to voice, but not to replace your voice.
If you absolutely do not have the time to put in the effort to make a voice recording in each video, maybe because your channel is not profitable yet or not generating any money at all, then I will suggest a middle ground alternative.
Instead of adding subs, which requires a script anyways, there are free AI voice tools that you feed a script and it will read it in a mostly human like voice. Some are quite good. I'm sure you have noticed many content creators choosing this option.
However, since your viewers will definitely notice the difference, if you choose to go this route then let me make two suggestions. 1, you must explain in the first few videos that you are, in fact, using an AI voice over and then list the reasons why you choose to do so. Because it's more time consuming to make authentic voice recordings or because you feel like people will understand what you're saying more or whatever your personal reasons are. (also, you can use chatgpt to help edit your script so the English won't be broken anymore which you don't need to do unless that matters to you. I don't think it's necessary at all)
Second, as your channel grows you have to make a decision at some point to forever use an AI voice or, once you are generating enough income to operate your channel full time as a job, switch back to your own voice forever and never go back to AI. My advice is that you do that one because your voice shows your character, your personality in a way that AI cannot replicate. It creates a generic human like character but not your character. Your voice will always be superior. It's unique to you. It's a crucial part of your brand.
Your channel has a lot of potential and you could take it as far as you wanted, even going full time and making it your primary source of income. Truly, I believe that.
If my advice resonates with you and you want to hear other thoughts I have, let me know. That would be my thank you for you taking the time to help the rest of us get better artistically. It's very generous of you, especially if you are not earning income from your channel yet. I'm a native born English speaker and I am a writing enthusiast. If you want help editing your scripts, I would be happy to help. (obviously for free.) Maybe you do this for fun and while you want your channel to grow, it's not a primary concern because you have other focuses on your life. Both are valid and so is everything else. Either way, I wish you the best of luck in the future, whatever you decide, even if my advice is not particularly helpful. Cheers!
