    Watching Geraint just enjoying cycling among the best in the sport, leading his team and his friend Cavendish just makes me have even more respect for him. A gentlemen of this sport

    I just loved that little flick of the head from Thomas: “On my wheel, mate.”
    Cavendish is a great rider who never forgets his team mates, when he wins.

    Reminded us of Brad leading out Cav in Paris...
    Wow! One of Cav's best finishes I think. Tactics sound easy but that's because he's incredibly experienced. People been saying he's past it - but he left the pack of other great sprinters way behind....... Sensational sprint from Sensational Sprinter!

      I was stood by the Joan of arc statue that day, the feeling and the crowd when the yellow helmet was the first thing you could see coming out of the tunnel on the final lap was amazing. This sprint definitely reminds me of that day.

    Cavendish picking Gaviria's wheel even after the Giro he's had and being right, is why he was such a great rider.

    Thanks G. That last push helped cav. Watch out boys, if cav can win here he could win another one at the tour. The form is obviously there. Take a break now and prepare. Cav is just amazing. No train of his own yet he picks his way through the mess and wins. A true sprinter. Mad.

    Watching live it looked easy, as if many of the teams wanted Cav to win, but watching it a few more times you realize how perfectly he was positioned and how he just left the quickest guys in the Giro for dead. That was impressive.

    At 2.2 Km to go, 5.37 into the video you can see G check that Cavendish is on his wheel. Both of them are phenonenal riders and great entertainers.

    Saw Cav in the Gran Sasso stage this year as he slogged up the final climb - I shouted out 'Go on, Mark, you'll win a stage this year' not really believing what I was saying. I felt a bit hypocritial so I'm delighted he did end up winning one, and the best one of them all!

    Never been the biggest Cav fan, but he truly deserved to win this stage, after finishing the entire Giro. I was very glad for him, seeing him struggle in earlier stages and having this victory at last. In fact, I was cheering him on, as was probably half of the peleton. Now we're gonna see him in de TdF, I guess, one last time.

    Of all Sir Cav's wins this was the greatest. G smashing a km for no reason other than he loves the man to set him up for this epic finish. Beats 2012 in Paris with Sir Wiggins and number 35 at the TDF for me. This was special as Sir Cavendish was considered finished.

      @@czekhoongtan7857Sean Kelly wrote Roglic off half way up the climb, as did most others. His ascent was supernatural, a huge ‘boost’ from his form thus far

    Just came to see all those who wrote him off a couple of weeks ago eating their words. Funny how they never seem to stir from their coffins when he is doing well. Greatest sprinter of all time, even including the drug-fueled names that many will put forward in his stead.

      @davidoffon he finished 3rd in the points without even trying for any interim sprints. With virtually no help from his team. And got over all the mountains fairly comfortably. If you want to call that consistently dreadful then I'm guessing you've never got on a bike without stabilisers. Another pleb who only gets up from his armchair to fetch the remote control.

    Love this, G's wee nod of the head and Cav doing Cav things. As an aside, the latest edition of the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast has Cav on it and you can just tell the love and respect they have for each other - well worth a listen

    Kudos G for his classy contribution in part of Cav's sprint win.
    The UAE rider put his head down (7:43) and looked up before drifting right and possibly clipped Milan's front wheel resulting in his veering off to the right... nasty crash on the last stage... unfortunate.

    I don’t think G will have any regrets after this Giro. He rode almost perfectly and could not have done more. He’ll find retirement a lot easier now knowing he had 21 stages in Italy and lost out to a stronger rider.

      Personally after Cav crashed out of the TdF this year I hope Ineos brings them back together for a year to get Cav Merckx’s TdF record.
      Let them both go out on top at the team where it all started and give them the send off they deserve.

    Thomas was great to help a mate out and Cavendish is the best sprinter that ever lived.
    What a great ending to the Giro. I just hope Cavendish can get a couple of stages in the Tour de France to seal his legacy.

    UAE rider rode across the back of the DSM rider and crashed himself out. Looked like Gaviria punctured or something, his bike skipped a lot after he backed off. Still enjoyed it though! Not sure how people could think other teams would 'gift' a win to another rider and team.

    INEOS riding for Cav or just bringing Thomas safe to the 3 km mark? I mean they caught the breakaway and then Thomas was taking Cavendish to the front after they reached the 3 km mark. Not my own thought I must admit, I heard it somewhere. Anyway, Thomas did a great job and Cavendish won in style.
