💬Plot summary:
Fan Xian grew up in a small town by the sea with his grandmother, following a sudden visit of a poison master, his peaceful life quickly morph into one filled with danger and hardship. Wang Er was the only one who cared to ask about Teng Zijing as a person after he died as a way of comforting Fan Xian instead of dismissing him as just a guard.

At first, I was suspicious of Wang Er's motives and loyalty, but he proved to be a loyal and noble friend. He secretly saved TZ's family from peril and honoured FX with a bow when he promised to provide the information about the Qi's assassin's release.
why make us love the person who has to die in order to motivate the protagonist ??? I fall for it every time :(((((((((((

This ain't my first time here but this episode still gets to me,it's too painful to watch. Man, Fan Xian and Teng Zijing's chemistry wasn't no joke. Their friendship was so pure and refreshing but the writer had to kill him. 😭😭😭
Tang Zijing 😥💕 I loved his loyalty to Fan Xian. He was a good, honorable man. I didn’t want him to die. His poor wife, they were just reunited. 😭
In some ways, it is similar to the friendship of Coachman Huang and Xu Feng Nian of another political drama Sword, Snow, Stride, e cept here Teng Zijing has a family. But there is no denying the emphasis the drama is giving us about the value of friendship, much more than the squabbling royal children, each one with underlying agenda.
The death of Teng Zijing meant so much for Fan Xian's character development. It also proved that this is a no-nonsense drama despite the lightheartedness and hilarious scenes. OMG this is getting better and better. And that fighting scene with fire was amazing. ❤️
So every time on a C-drama that I saw two characters speaking about what they do in the future together and how happy they are, I just prepare myself..someone is gonna die or being lost for any reason
When I see 2 chars speaking about the future in a C-drama, I expect them to be mortal enemies in two episodes or shattered by misunderstanding and lies.
I was just thinking that the girl was going to hold back her feelings and not get with the mc,
He needed this to get that knock but man oh man I'm sitting here crying this was so heartbreaking, although I'll miss the jockie Fan XIAN I feel with him always being protected he need to have this lose to give us a more mature Fan XIAN. Can I just say Zhang Rouyun knocked this acting out off the park can't see a better person to play this role excellent acting.
The moment he died I cried my eyes out then when fan cried I cried even more. I cried so much this episode I could have my own ocean by now. I really can't stand to see a man cry it just do something to me.
A man crying means he is not afraid of showing his feelings. In my eyes i think a man who will let himself cry. is more a man and stronger than one who does not cry.

It just shows how most of his decisions and plotting is done behind the scenes instead of in front of all his courtiers and with pomp and circumstance. Almost done casually, while hair is messy and unkempt like he's lounging around. That's his power. He an crush someone just like that, so easily.

im so sad!!! teng zijing and fan xian's conversations and relationship was the best.......:(((
There are couple of things the show did really well. Highlighting the side characters efficiently. They had around the right amount of scene of Teng's family for us to care without going overbearing. Also there is a sense of time, we know clearly how many days he been at the capitol. We see the chicken leg got worst and worst. And of course, in later episode the construction of his humidifier. Even the house and the city, there is a sense of location. Like a real lived in city with real people and not just a television set.
The way the show let the pain linger throughout the episode with the grief of Fan Xian.
I like the fact that the character's intellect are consistent. Especially the royal family members. They are all smart, bright and clever.

1. The emperor has never been seen in court or formal clothes even once
2. He has a harem of wives who all get along
3. No scheming bullshit among family members
4. The eunuchs are so interesting. The empress dowager's head eunuch especially

Didn’t give this drama attention at first, in fact, left it after first episode. Started reading that it was worth watching so went back to continueon watching it. And boy, oh boy, so glad i did. Every episode just keep getting better and better. I cried when TJ died and when FX cried for him. The scene is so heartbreaking, you actually feel the actors’ anguish feeling. Kudos for the actors and the director of this drama. They are highly effective in bringing joy to their viewers.
I did the exact same thing. I didn't even make it through the fist episode in my first attempt. It was only after I kept reading how good it was that I went back and watched more. I am so glad I did.

That is what you call a good writing. If this was release in a weekly format and in maybe like 20 min episode, people probably complain how boring his family scenes are and they probably want to get back to the action. But slow moments like that build up impact and make us care. "His son" was essential to the story. His son was the only one that care and treat the 8th rank killer a human being.

Second time watching this series. Aaaaand just like the first time i watched it, ep 13 makes me cry a river... And it probably will the next time i watch it. I'm hooked on this series. Love it and counting down the days untill they release series 2.
I noticed that the 2 princes and Fan Xian costumes are very nice, pleated and heavy materials which makes it look flowy Fan Xian has the best costumes in this drama
I watched this whole drama one time now coming back to watch my second time with the eng sub. I have to say the end sub was well done. This two eps was a little different from the original story (joy of life the book). Teng did not die in the book. However, his death makes this drama better than the book.
