i do a lot of texting and lay a game here and there and ive noticed video calling drains the battery quite a bit. my first few days when i had the phone on max charge it would say 3 days life on power saving mode. after a week that max charge dropped to only a day worth. i changed out to another mate 10 pro but i feel like it might happen again. Any suggestions
Yes, video calling drains battery a lot as you download and upload videos at the very same time... But seems something is wrong with your device as the performance reduced just after a week. Did you check the apps consuming battery? Maybe some apps are running in the background and consuming battery a lot.
Some apps still run in the background and they do not appear in the Recent Apps. Check them from the battery settings... Hopefully the new one will not face any issue. Let me know how it goes. Good luck :)
as i said i swapped my phone out to the same model. On its first full charge its approx battery was at 3 days 4 hours. next charge was at night it went down to 2 days 3 hours. i turned it off after it was fully charged and after turning it back on today it has somehow dropped to just 1 day but still at 100%

I always using phone manager and closing all apps. i swapped the phone out for another model so i hoping i dont get the same issue
