    When I was first married in 1977, we didn't own a TV set, but my Dad bought us a Patrolman 5 radio from radio shack. I was studying civil engineering at BYU so I was studying all the time. But every night, around 8 PM I'd lay my books aside and we'd listen to Mystery Theater. I thought it was so much fun and better than TV. One we listened to was about the spirits of Nazi war criminals possessing the bodies of crows and that one really scared my wife, she still talks about it! Listening to a radio show, your imagination fills in all the pictures.

      I saw one comment on another video saying that they listened to these with family or friends outside by a bonfire at night. I think that's an awesome idea! I think that might be scary :).

      I remember the episode. I started listening to radio theater back in the late 70s. It was on the local station in L.A. KFWB 1090 at the time. I found mystery theater from friends out of Las Vegas when we were in the wilds of the desert and all we could pick up was a couple of channels, one of which played the episodes.

      @Steven R
      I probably started listening around the same yr as you did. I would have been 11 yrs old, so I may be just 9 - 10 or so yrs younger than you, since you probably didn't marry before you were at least 20 yrs old or so. My brother discovered it on our AM radio that used to sit on a night table between our twin beds. We shared a bedroom bc we lived in a 3 bedroom house with our Grandparents & mother. Anyway, it was a perfect radio show for us kids because our local radio station played it on Sunday nights when we were supposed to be in bed sleeping, since it was a "school night." That was a bonus--> we had to listen in the dark which made it even spookier. The whole thing creeped me out a little simply because no one else even played radio dramas at the time & these were very intense scary stories when you're only 10 or 11 yrs old. I remember being vaguely suspicious that the people putting Radio Mystery Theater on the airwaves may have been in league w some dark powers (yikes). I was also a fan of the Night Stalker TV show & that could really be scary because sometimes I had to watch that on the old TV set in the basement by myself if no one else wanted to watch the show on Friday Evening (😳)

    I have been falling asleep listening to these for a couple of months. I love them and they have helped me during a very sad sad time in my life. Better to fall asleep listening to these great good old days radio shows than to extreme heartbreak.
    Thank you for them. 🙏

    As I grew up in Rochester, NY in the 70s, every Sunday night my brother and I, who shared the same room, would listen faithfully at 10:07 lying in bed - with the lights out. Many a night we would lay there, listening intently. When completed, we would always discuss the broadcast. That door creaking followed by EG Marshall's description of the pending broadcast will forever be embedded in my mind!

      Its coming back with podcasts. Wondery has a bunch that are more story than people talking to each other and hashing things out. Listened to one a few months ago about Crocodile soldiers in Florida. 😄 Bit of a Sci-fi bent. Set in "today".

    This reminds me of a strange horror type film called "Devil Doll" with Lionel Barrymore, but his character could manipulate the ones under his spell, I won't write anymore here since it could spoil THIS story!
