  • More Cruise Lines Stop Sailing to Antigua. Both Seabourn cruise line and Holland America cruise line have now said they will no longer be going to Antigua. This could be just the start of many more cruise lines leaving this cruise destination.

@Yuki BabaYaga "...unlike most Americans who can only afford to take a selfie from afar..." and you are...? Perhaps us Americans are not STUPID enough to pay "extortionist" prices to go to certain destinations riddled with street urchins that don't leave visitors alone or pick-pocket or steal. Ever travel or visit any cities in NYC? Typically, the problems associated in any given city is generally caused amongst the criminal minded (gangs, drug pushers, etc). I know! I know a MULTITUDE of people that live in cities throughout the US, including Manhattan. NONE of them have ever had any crimes committed against them... meanwhile a cousin of mine on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico was robbed right at the port when one of the urchins there pulled a camera right out of her hands (and it was NOT a camera phone).... "Peace Among Worlds" as your avatar - You are such a bigoted, biased hypocrite.

@C Johnson I haven't been to Nassau yet and I have no intention of doing so, BUT I have spent plenty of time in NYC and I disagree with you saying "There are cities in new. York and californicate that is more dangerous in the broad daylight then ANY Caribbean city in the dark."
Why do I disagree? Because NYC has cops on every single street; you literally cannot walk without seeing one or a police substation wherever you walk--daytime. Same for the nighttime, but I won't go there at night unless I am on a tour, as we used to go to Radio City Music Hall for their Christmas show. I am not THAT confident in the night as compared to daytime.
Sorry about your friend, but one incident cannot discount an entire city. It also depended on where in the city he was--not all of it is safe, no, but the majority of it is. His van getting burglarized is usually an exception, not the norm, as you stated here: "You travel into the interior of a Country where crime is rampant, then you get ripped off and then you get upset. I GUARANTEE you that if you would travel to new York city, l.a., or san. francisco you would get the same or worse."
I personally have been walking all over NYC ALONE for years. I FEEL safe and I am safe. One place that I will NOT go is on the subway...you are looking for trouble should you go on these "underground crime centers."
NO city can "guarantee" you 100% safety--that's being unrealistic. I took the train up to Penn Station, walk upstairs to the outside (Madison Square Garden is upstairs), and then proceed to walk down the streets in either direction. By the way, Penn Station has an incredible amount of high powered guns attached to the officers, which watch EVERYONE--again, you can't go 15 feet without being near one AND there are cameras all over the place in the city...that's why a crime in NYC is solved so quickly compared to other cities of their size (8+ million). You can't even sneeze without it being recorded.
As to SF or LA, I can't speak for either of those cities, but New York? I can absolutely vouch for safety there.
Yes there is crime of course--I would be speaking in ignorance if I said there isn't any, but nowhere near what you wrote.
Aside from all this, we are to use common sense by being alert to our surroundings and NEVER look a person in the eye at or stare at anyone; for them it's a red flag that you are looking for trouble, and if you DO look a person in their eyes, then obviously you want something or your have a problem.

Are they doing the same with Air Travel? Too bad for the people of Antigua that have to deal with the ignorance of their Government leaders in this manner; they sure know how (if their issue is with all travel) to ruin the industry which their very existence depends on.

Read that Antigua’s economy is 60% tourist dollars so, um, to snub these lines really makes them look like arrogant morons. And who wants to visit snob island? Or have it on their itinerary? But perhaps they feel the crowds on their island are just not worth it anymore... or they struck oil or something. Well more $ for the scads of beautiful hospitable islands around them.

We are all aware of the costs involved with a foreign port--us Americans also have costs involved in our own ports--but to constantly put down Americans as being "cheap" is really disgusting for you to say that.
How do you know the "locals aren't thrilled with being overrun with people making noise and leaving the place full of trash"? Did you take a survey of the locals? Did your tourist guide tell you that?
Is the island SILENT, since you stated they don't want "people making noise"? And trash? Are you absolutely 100% positive that all the trash is from the AMERICANS? Did you do a survey on that, too?
Overall it certainly doesn't sound like a very friendly place to go, according to you, who talked everyone on this post NOT to go there, mainly because we are not wanted, we make "too much noise," and every single person that disembarks a ship leaves trash all over the island, and let's not forget, all of us Americans are CHEAP!!
Seems that you are wealthy--if you don't care for the American people whom you consider to be "cheap," then why are YOU living here in the U.S., when with your $$$ you can go live elsewhere--anywhere that you're happy to live so you won't be surrounded by "cheap" Americans!

I hardly doubt that, yet you have some sort of hatred for Americans. How about their OWN "cheap" residents?
They don't do what you say us Americans do? Can't DARE say otherwise--been to several islands and ALL the people either live in middle class or are poverty stricken--and their "houses" prove it: run down, falling apart, not taken care of, or not caring about it or they don't have the money all you "rich" Americans do...the list is endless. Most of these Caribbean Islands are poor, so how can you make such blanket statements as you have been doing over the past week?
PLEASE STOP BLAMING AMERICANS for other countries' problems!! The small amount of cruise ships that land on these islands in no way equates to their OWN trash, etc. The cruise ships are NOT there every single day all year long, so stop accusing Americans of being the problem!

I have never been there nor do I intend to, but for the "gua" at the end, most people will pronounce it as "gwa," due to the spelling. We pronounce words phonetically which means that we pronounce the word as it is spelled. Can't blame us for not knowing.

Go back and live there and stop living here, where you CAN make enough money to survive, if you're so worried about them! Here's a suggestion to you: Why don't YOU write letters to every cruise company and tell them that they can't come into the region...see how far that gets you!
"Do as they like"?? The cruise companies pay VERY heavily to port there--far more than they get in return AND they dock, let cruisers off the ship and then they leave, so how is that "do as they like"?
What EXACTLY are they doing? WE spend $$$ to tour the islands; without American's money and the money from other countries touring them, they'd still be back in the stone age!
