Yeah, Hiei's statement in the Saint Beasts arc makes a lot of sense once you see Kurama do things like this.

the thing is not killing can save your life as we see later those demons can come back and save you when your in a time of need so kurama and hiei's methods are a bit backfiring at times..they just assume killing and being strong matters..being a bit sympathetic which kurama can be can save you
Kurama's great. He truly is a kind, well-meaning person who genuinely cares about his friends. He fights with style and finesse, and seems like perhaps the most showy of the team sometimes. But there's always that other side, that we see more of as time goes on... remember when Hiei said he recruited him because he wanted him on his side and didn't want to cross him? Hiei respects Kurama's abilities, and honestly believes he could beat him in a fight. And then there's that thing Kurama said a few episodes ago... "Hiei cannot prepare you for the viciousness of the fights. Your weakness and his honor make him go easy on you. I will not." When Kurama tells Kuwabara (and the audience) that he's a more ruthless fighter than Hiei, despite all appearances.. believe him.
Never forget that Kurama is actually a centuries year old demon who used to be an infamous criminal. He might have moved on from that life, but that doesn't mean he's truly gotten soft. It just means he has experience.
Yeah, it won’t be the last time we see Kurama’s dark side.
The difference ebtween Kurama and Hiei is that Kurama knows WHEN to pull his punches...and wehn not to.
I love the juxtaposition of Kurama, he’s the beautiful, soft spoken, classy guy… and he is by far the most ruthlessly violent of the core group
Don't forget how togashi used the kuwabara fight with rinku ending as a funny cute simple no one died normal fight then we get this savage kurama fight moment after to show the reality of these fights and the characters...their all 4 so distinct and written in different ways I love it...theres just 100% brain use in kurama fights and savagery
Important thing to always remember: *Hiei* is the one with a samurai like honor-code and a dark sense of nobility most of the time. If Kurama wants you dead? You die, no hesitation, no mercy, no fuss and no muss. He's the ruthless trickster to Hiei's Dark Samurai. Remember, Hiei actually states (In the Saint Beast Arc) that he originally teamed up with Kurama so he *wouldn't* have to fight him.
In the first arc he's the one mentioned to be the strongest between him, Hiei and Gouki.

There’s a reason Hiei is Kurama’s biggest hype man.
All the Kurama episodes are my absolute favorites in the series. Every time it’s focused on him you know it’ll be crazy.
Out of the four boys, Kurama is the last one you want on your bad side.
We'll see a YuYu Hakusho remake in 2028.

I love the reveal of how merciless Kurama can be this episode, but re-watching, it still amazes me with how badass Kuwabara's sister is -- she's fully aware her brother is one of the main protagonists. ;)
shes not in manga much but the anime allowed her to be a huge part of 2 arcs
@@razkable its a shame they bascially wrote out yusuke's mom from everything in the anime, but shizuru was such a great addition to the anime
One of my favorite moments of the dark tournament was Roto asking Kurama if he would have mercy and kurama just giving him the death glare saying no. Its so amazing, especially bc im used to the main characters usually showing sympathy. Also, next episode is one of my favs of the whole series

its especially great since the heroes showing an inkling of sympathy to the villains ahs become so much more common place, and here we have Kurama just brutally murdering a man in front of thousands and not even caring one bit

Kurama openly said to Kuwabara in his training that Hiei would go easy on him due to his honour but Kurama would not. Kurama is deadly and a badass. He lived in the demon world for a LONG time before having to flee to the human world and he has seen/done some shit. His fights are incredible this season and the one at the end of this season is easily one of my favourites of the tournament.
Next episode is well known in this community; can't wait to see their reaction to it.

After Yusuke, Kurama embodies the overall story of the show. He connects the demon and human world. And he was the one closest to bring peace to the worlds, his olan was solid. Just remember he could have been a Demon King if he continued in the demon world
Kurama’s basically off the leash for most of the rest of the series after this point. Any encounter with an enemy he has is always a fun/interesting/horrifying time.
Togashi is a genius when choosing plants and chains as weapons.

I love the rest of the show and characters but it feels like I’ve been waiting so long for you to get to some of kurama’s coolest moments and I’m so glad we’re here. And I don’t even know if this is top 5 of my fave for him, so I’m excited to get to more eventually!!

The idea that Kurama doesn't believe in mercy is simple. Once he's decided you're going to die, that's it. There's no point wasting your breath to beg, you're already dead.

Every fight involving Kurama is intense because i fear for his opponents...
Kurama low key toys with people cause he's so cocky he likes to see what they can do first even if it hurts him...he is risk taking and likes to out strategic his foes and break them psychological wise first...which is why his fear of karasu was real and mattered cause hes never that way...

After recently re watching the series for the first time in 15 years, I know you guys are gonna loose your shit many times in this arc :)
As the Bros correctly observed, Roto's scummy behavior is NOT what led Kurama to kill him. In fact, Kurama at 9:16 intended to kill Roto cleanly and end the fight in a single blow. Instead, by threatening Kurama's mother, Roto ensured his death would be slow, painful, brutal, and utterly vicious.
"You believe in mercy don't you?" Kurama answered no, but in fact, his original intention to kill Roto swiftly WAS mercy. Threaten Kurama's loved ones at your own risk. By the end, death WILL be mercy.
Oh..yeah uh totally. Kurama would totally never kill a child....of course not.... *tugs collar nervously*

I think that Roto had his demon bro following Kurama's mom at least as long as he's known who he would be fighting in the tournament.
It wouldn't surprise me if the brackets were decided and the demons participating were told who they would be fighting but Urameshi and crew just found out.

You got it backwards. YYH ran from 1990 to 1994. Rurouni Kenshin began in 1994.

Even if he was against the "Masked Fighter", he could still use the same threat by informing the others that their loved ones are held hostage.
i hate how they root so hard for kuwabara..hes the clear trope of the shounen hero who is a jobber bff in this series because togashi hates that main character being all happy and nice and noble trope..so the punk rebel is his hero not kuwabara...they need to realize that hes lame af

Demons who fight Kurama almost always use tricks because they can't beat him in a normal fight.
This episode and the later arc Karasu episode are my absolute favorite Kurama moments. My favorite male anime character since the 2nd grade ^_^
It would be cool to do two episodes a week just for this arc and then go back to one.
I really hope they take your advice, otherwise this arc will take the greater portion of a year to complete.

It's a bit different from homing in Kuwabara's case, the sword was basically stitching the threads of Linku's attack together, ensuring no matter where he dodged to it would hit him.

Despite all looks and appearances Kurama is most definitely the one with the least amount of morals on the team…As long as the solution is achievable he will go to all lengths to get said solution, from torture, murder, extortion…he may have taken on an human body but the demon thief Yoko Kurama is still as lethal was he was hundreds of years ago…

Kurama and Rurouni Kenshin are like twins. In my POV, the X was a reference to the same X on Kenshin's face.
The way it was set up, the con was true. Their enemies have already researched about Kurama's background. It wouldn't make sense to have this in the show but it was just a ploy. There are lots of ploys in this series and this is not one of them. The plot/fight needs to end quickly to make way for the next one.

Well I've been gone for too long but am caught up for next time. It's a shame Kuwabara had to lose the fight, but I suppose someone had to take the hit to really show the stakes of this tournament. At the very least he guaranteed that Rinku wouldn't be fighting anymore. Speaking of Rinku, I hate that little shit. He's always been annoying. Kuwabara is still partially to blame. He's his own worst enemy sometimes.
Shizurus is a such a badass, and i love that Kuwabara has almost no worries about being so high in the air.
But onto the real star of the episode, Kurama. You threaten the people he loves and he'll kill you in the worst ways imaginable .Even now that death plant still holds up as one of the most gruesome fates ever. Who knows what other kinds of tricks he has up his sleeves.
Kurama could've easily beat him but he let himself get crippled. I wonder if that will be a trend. Oh well it's more impressive to see how he is able to get out of those situations.
Oh boy tomorrow is going to be hot in more ways than one. The moment I've been looking forward to the most.
