I find that his power's LOS is incredibly infuriating in all aspects. I so often will try to tag/teleport to survivors with the pods only for the bar to reset completely when the briefly walk next to a twig that doesn't even look like it breaks LOS. That and when I try and teleport to people by shooting them directly, I will often shoot a random rock that will lose me 20 seconds in chase when they turn the corner because they made so much distance while the tracker logic was freaking out. Then once they are tracked, a teammate will EMP them from the floor below. They also made his best addons rarer and his worse/less fun addons more common. Yes he is good but it feels like a constant battle between me and the logic engine that the survivors happen to be caught in the middle of.

If they would start making killers with QoL of the killer made somewhat a concern, most killers would be played more often. I actually play a fair amount of Hux, I went on a horrendous lose streak for about 2 weeks just to get good with him, and for all that effort I feel slightly more coordination in games I will probably still lose if the survivors are decent and the map is not one of his best.
I wish we could get one single killer that actually doesn’t feel like a stress test just to play… Unfortunately skull merchant is the closest, simply because nothing about her feels incredibly wonky and tangent on you playing on a mouse&Keyboard or having the reflexes of a mountain climber.

    • @Magnetar_Haunt
      @Magnetar_Haunt Год назад +6

That, and oh my lord, the amount of times I go into a camera after hooking specifically to get away from the hook, just to get EMP'd and then slowed when I come out of the camera, which holds me near the hook even longer, is so awkward.

For me I feel like it’s so easy to lose track of which biopod I’m viewing from in certain scenarios and I often find myself spazzing out trying to look through cameras like I’m on the last hour of a FNAF game. Needless to say, this greatly hinders my ability to use his power efficiently along with all the other common issues because the multitasking becomes just too jarring. Not to mention, you have to do this at breakneck speeds to avoid losing line of sight which can already be a major issue in itself, especially on dense or indoor maps with heap loads of shit in the way.

The main thing is constantly switching camera angles all over the place, it's like when you teleport with freddy and you're like "huh? where am I?" for a couple seconds because the generator changed which way you were looking or is looking in a direction where you can't immediately tell what's going on. Except on this killer it's constant with the cameras, if you are prone to getting mixed up when swapping/teleporting all over the place, it will hit you much harder than any other killer. Persistent disorientation is exhausting
Also, on a personal note, even though the emps are balanced/necessary, I hate any killer that has a built in counterplay that directly interferes with your power. I like to have a power that's mine to use how I want, the survivors can't mess with it. I know you can just replace the camera in half a second and shoot them again, but it's another one of those things that makes this killer feel more effortful and exhausting than most

I appreciate that you understand why there has to be counterplay. Often times people want their killer's power to have no counterplay but don't realize that while a hard to use power does deserve less counterplay and should reward skill, by removing counterplay you deny the survivors the opportunity for skillfull interaction which isn't fun for them either.

A killer with a main power that’s focused on long range tracking but also has a speed and stealth component to it and survivors can interact with the power to disable it. But I think the fact that that when survivors disable SM drones there’s 2 downsides to doing so so it’s not totally bad if they disable a drone and no one is disabling them mid chase, while since EMPs have zero downside to turning them off, it makes it so when someone immediately EMPs as soon as I track them feels so miserable that I question why I’m not playing the easier and less frustrating killer to play as.

I DO think that the reward you get from the effort you put in IS equal, it's just that you have to put an INSANE amount of effort & thinking power into playing Singularity effectively.

I think the biggest deterring fact is that Hux has a lot of scenrarios where you lose pressure or control through factors beyond your control.
Sure there is already loading into bad map but there are also things like seing a survivor through your camera an not being able to tag them because the game says that there is not enough of them on screen, when you HAVE to chase a certain survivor to get them out of the game and they happen to have an EMP on them which extends the chase noticably, caneras not placing because of weird collision on terrain so you have to shoot like 5 cameras which losses you time.
Numbers are also ridiculously tight on this killer like the cooldown of your tagging darts, the time you have overclocked, the time you are stunned when porting through a pallet which can make the hit between pallets extremely tight.
He is also an easy killer to annoy when a full squad decides to just hammer EMPs or even a dedicated player in the lobby just running around blasting your antiloop off of his teammates. I that survivor effective? Probably not but you have to deal with him more sooner than later.
And then you have small things like the massive penalty you get from using his ability close to hooked survivor which takes you out of the game for a good 5-10s.
Overall he is an amazing killer, but he feels a lot more stressful than most killers due to the abundance of factors you have to consider while playing. With Huntress it´s throw hatchet, hit hatchet, with Nemesus it´s throw whip, hit whip, with Clown it´s throw bottle go around loop you get the point. On Hux the process alone of using your ability is: place cam, tag survivor, get LOS again to teleport and potentially break pallet, loop with oveclocked and force the pallet, get a single hit.

Even if you happen to infect them and teleport right behind them, you can barely close the gap because they are just way too fast. But thats more of like a issue with Made for this being redicioulusly strong, than a Killer issue. You’re making the killer way too strong with very little set up before hand. I'm likely just really bad with him, but he gives me the same feeling as The Twins, where using your power oftentimes gets punished. Tagging survivors can feel clunky when a branch blocks your vision, or if they hide half of their body behind a gen. Teleporting to them can help get that initial distance, but that's all it ends up doing for me. Yeah it can break a pallet and make me immune to them for a short while, but without add-ons to improve the power, it ends up cutting off two or three seconds off a typical M1 killer chase time. Finally, my biggest reason is if survivors are on top of gathering EMPs, it just feels bad using your cameras. I can tag someone, but they will usually get the EMP to activate before I can teleport, making those 5-10 seconds of finding and tagging them feel counterproductive. Just like with The Twins, if you use your power but get countered with an EMP (either because it was disabled previously, or they popped an EMP mid-tag), you still have to get out of a sluggish state, and walk all the way over there. Plus, when EMPs auto-generate, it won't take long for them to be restocked after one or two chases, which just makes me feel like outside of chase my power is more of a detriment than anything.
He is fun, even if he is really tough to learn. Love the aesthetics and sound design, I just suck at / don't mesh well with his power.

He has a massive skill floor and I think that’s it. Once you get over just that skill floor he’s got a really even and fun learning curve, but that first investment of time into him to just learn how to use his power is ROUGH and I think with how OP EMPs were at release that turned people off of him a bit. He also has a weird kind of issue where when you read his kit, you think he’s a setup killer but he’s not, he’s a chase and scouting killer dressed up as a setup killer. But I think he’s really fun to play and honestly I will say that learning how to use his power in loops and stuff is genuinely very fun. I’ve played him quite a bit since he came out and I’m loving him. He eats pallets for breakfast, has great scouting, counters W keying, has a tiny bit of built in slowdown with the EMPs, and so many loops become really unsafe when you get the hang of how to place your pods.

My theory with Singularity is a theory that I share with why Artist doesn't seem to be picked massively often, despite both being pretty strong. It's similar to what you touch upon in your first point, but mainly, they both require a fair bit of effort, attention and work to actually play. And I do mean play, not just learn. You have to be constantly 'switched on', changing priorities and targets and actively doing things. You can't have as 'casual' a game with singularity as you can most other killers (or if you do, there are better 'simple' alternatives).
The game, for many, is ultimately a straightforward cat and mouse situ, and I think a lot of killer mains prefer playing a killer where you can kind of plough forward with singular purpose than the more management-oriented focus of killers such as Singularity and Artist. Doubly so when you can go against seriously high standards of survivors and SWF, where a single incident of switching away to use the power can feel disproportionately punishing if it doesn't pay off, and I think that deters players who'd prefer to just chase, hit, chase, down.
Now having said all that, I love Singularity and happily play him as often as I can.

I myself have never been a fan of complex powers that require micromanaging like Hag and Trapper. It’s also worth mentioning that some killers are easier to bully than others due to the nature of their powers. Hag can be harassed, Ghostface can be revealed, survivors can group up against Viktor etc.
Finally, your comment about console was absolutely true. Half the killer roster are deceptively difficult on console. On top of a lot of survivor movement/FOV techs actually being viable against a console killer, killers that demand normally mundane movement on PC might be a lot more challenging with a controller. (Just imagine using a controller to hit a skilled survivor with a Nemesis tentacle. It’s not fun)

I like him but it’s just really shitty feeling knowing I just can’t ever play him optimally compared to most other killers
I also think survivors in general have started playing a lot more optimally. And a good squad doing the right stuff with emps can make him frustrating as you waste a ton of time. But that’s an issue with the update. I’m having harder matches on killer in general now and I didn’t use but one slow down back during the brine eruption meta and it was still easier. There was a discussion on the subreddit about this too, and I feel like the biggest issue is that infecting people is necessary, yet it's the easiest "infection" mechanic in the game to remove. Nemesis and Wesker are active infections that happen naturally in chases, but you have to go out of your way to remove them, and you'll usually only go after these items once you get infected. Plague also naturally infects you during the course of a chase, and while you can remove the infection you have to manage the fountains else she begins to snowball.
With Singularity, the infection being removed upon being hooked AND the EMPs having next to no time investment from the survivor's side means that your cameras are usually disabled in key areas, survivors are rarely infected, and you're punished for finishing a chase with a single hook.
If his biopods could passively infect survivors over a longer period of time (say, 15-20 seconds) then you'd have more uptime on your chase power and make pre-emptive EMPs be more popular than reactive EMPs.
Speaking of EMPs and the concept of planned VS reactive, I think that newly placed pods and/or slipstreams should be immune to EMPs for 10-20 seconds. This would make the power feel lackluster in a chase while also making survivors use EMPs more strategically. Instead of using EMPs as a chase counter, you'd use them as a way to secure a monitored gen and cleanse the infection upon meeting a teammate. The most frustrating part of this killer is seeing your power immediately countered - it would be like if your main event counter on Trickster was depleted upon a survivor teabagging you.

Singularity to me is a killer that runs really well with expose perks. Those being dragon's grip and hubris. You can use Dragon's Grip to teleport to a survivor through a biopod that touches the gen you kicked and down them right after. Hubris has good synergy with overclock because you can get hit by a pallet, break it really fast and then get them after or use a nearby biopod to get close or teleport and get the down.
I also find fire up is good because as it gets tokens you can eventually start dodging flashlight gangs and it also adds to your overclock mode bonuses since they both have the same bonuses. It fits thematically too because he's this monster of flesh and metal that is always trying to find ways to improve itself which is what fire up does to you as the game gets closer to ending.

My personal problem with him is that he's literally the only killer in the game, who's power usage constantly makes me feel dizzy and disoriented. And that's the reason why he's currently the most unfun killer to play as for me, beating even release-state Twins and PTSD I developed from them. Not particularly looking forward to his Tome challenges.

I've found that without purple/iri addons his power basically just lets you delete pallets but the survivor will still make it to the next loop and he often has to play windows as a relatively basic m1 killer. Also even though the emps take a lot longer to get and slow you down on use, it still takes a survivor who's not in chase only a few seconds to grab a finished one on the way to something else, which is especially easy if your first chase is bad, leading to a bunch of other survivors running in and messing up your power periodically at no cost to them, since the slowdown doesn't matter in that scenario and then an already rough start snowballs into an awful situation and that just feels miserable.

I love the killer, the idea of him, and he is one of my newer mains (next to Demo, Huntress, and Dredge) but his main power (cameras/pods) doesn't feel very well optimized I guess? When I play him at least 1-2 people will ALWAYS have an EMP so in most matches only 1 person will ever be slipstreamed meaning I either have to quickly place a pod and infect someone before I actually start chasing them (giving them a bit of distance) but usually a team mate comes in and EMPs the area after. Besides that type of stuff, sometimes when you place a pod by a gen, it wont let you get LOS even tho you can clearly see the survivor (just the little reticle icon wont appear) meaning I can watch the survivor complete the gen on the other side of the map but have 0 way to get to them just like if the pod was EMP'd (sometimes I'll place 2 pods for 2 angles and farther away from each other, but sometimes they both get EMP'd). If I do get LOS, as soon as the survivor notices, they'll hide and EMP, then the gen gets done. If the survivors are newer-ish and dont EMP as much, the game is a lot more fun, you can have fun chases and use your power, use your pods and pop up on people by gens and such or actually be able to shoot at people when in chase, I just personally notice in higher "elo" matches where people have high prestige characters, I typically seems to struggle a bit with him (maybe I just have the wrong perks). If you could infect people by shooting them (but maybe have a 15sec cooldown for shooting if infected that way) I think that would solve some of my issues, or reduce the EMP range by a slight amount.

I've picked up Hux as one of my staple characters, alongside a lot of the other unenjoyable killers, and straight up, he's not being played because of the camera mechanics.
Areas you think are good spots aren't eligible and spots that clearly can't work like tree branches are perfect. Then there's the issue with swapping to cameras and needing to adjust to your surroundings on the fly.
I find the quirk to be fun, but I would like it if some aspects were ironed out that would ease the clunkyness. Making the camera swap always Centereach instead of the last direction you had it set would help with the camera whiplash. Lock on system could use a visibility pass as you can clearly see a survivor but not be able to get a lock as they're obscured by a twig; if you can see most of them that should be a lock.
Not too sure what else non singularly players would want but those seek to be the main points of frustration aside from getting lerys

One of my issues with the singularity is how finnicky the power can be to use sometimes. If you try to quickly place a camera mid chase, you can't because you're aiming at a breakable wall, or you can't because you're aiming to close to a vault, or you can't because the survivor's hitbox is blocking the opening of the window you're trying to shoot through, or you can't because you're aiming at the ceiling and the game doesn't allow the cams to be placed on the ceiling, etc. I overall love the killer but there are unfortunate little things like those that don't feel great in the moment.

As a Blight main, Singularity is a breath of fresh air. He has some of the same issues as far as obstacles go, but I like the amount of effort needed to put into him. It’s very rewarding and feels less punishing by things like object collision that forces you to go barreling past a survivor, like the floor is a slip-n-slide, and you can be equally as sticky in a chase with good biopod placement.

My favorite killer at t he moment! I've seen maybe 3 since release day. I think people don't play him because it can be discouraging to learn the killer's new power while survivors have zero chill on gens. During my early games as Singularity it was common for me to lose 4 gens by the time I got 2 hooks. Firing biopods, switching to them, feeling disoriented while scanning with camera, then coming back, it's confusing! But it's so fun once you get the hang of him. I figure this killer takes several hours to really "get good." For now I'm having fun focusing on getting better in chase (and he's one of the best chase killers in the game) while not focusing so much on how often I 4K (not often). If I can get 6-8 hooks regardless of kills, I'm happy. I would like to get to a point where I'm VERY strong with him, but it still feels like I'm far off from that. Mid to late game everyone has an EMP so you have to slipstream them twice per chase, not easy with BHVR's awesome map design, adding tons of clutter and obstacles to break line of sight.

I like playing Singularity, but I keep getting messages from survivors saying he's boring and annoying to play against, so I just feel kinda bad playing him. I do also get very confused with swapping between the cameras and just generally activating the right one, but that's just an aspect of him I think would be fun to learn

Survivors say any killer is boring if they can’t easily counterplay and for Singularity, it’s EMPs. Without them, he just becomes a M1 killer so if survivors want a more engaging match, they should just hold back on the EMPs. Game already gives them a bottomless supply of em

It is such a weird situation to boot, like his cameras are amazing on the corn maps cause they can mark through corn as if its not there but then the railings on RPD outside staircase gives you full immunity to the power. For me there is a lot of inconsistency in using his cameras and what counts as being able to see survivors and not so i usually play in spurts of like 3-4 games and when I inevitably get one of the maps where his ability is jank i stop right after that.

I said this before, I think he's kind of linear in his chase style.
Place pod at loop -> Tag survivor -> TP to survivor -> Get a hit or pallet drop.
I might be missing something here, but there's nothing else you can do that really makes the killer flashy or unique.
