Thank you so much for posting this video! Two of our burners started doing this and our range is only 4 years old. I did as you did and replaced all 4, which after removing definitely all show signs of burning. The installation was super easy, I had to order the parts online and wait for them, but it was less than a week. Without this video I probably wouldn't have felt comfortable trying to investigate the issue and fix it myself as I have no electrical experience, but it's literally unplug and plug back in. I appreciate experts such as yourself helping us without experience to do these easy repairs to save money.
I used to have my own appliances repair business, now 24 years as residential and light commercial hvac. love how u don't do short cuts but yet make sense of your repairs! Stove top switchs are like electric water heater thermostats if one is bad change them both !

By the time you put a service charge and parts and laber they can buy new one. . Thats why I no longer so appliace repair

Once one thing breaks, it won't be long before it is something else. - I haul off lots of rental used appliances. The better ones... I Reburb them, and then sell them cheap to strangers, "as is," on Craigslist. My warranty is good until their, or my tail lights disappear around a corner. - Sometimes (pretty often) they call a few of months later and say, "It's going out. Do you have another one?" Of course, I do. -

Dishonesty and money grubbing combined with unskilled "technicians", most of which I would be hard pressed to consider hiring as a helper, have brought this industry down. Maybe not in profits, as we can see from the above comments, but in reputation, in integrity. I grew up in an appliance repair shop and if you know what you're doing, not just a part swapping monkey, you can make repairs that last and head off problems before they start. Not to mention the fact that a great many people can't afford to chuck their appliances out like old paper towels and they need the repairs to keep their household moving. Good diagnostics, solid, mindful repairs and honesty with the consumer and you can warranty the repaired equipment for 6 months or even a year and never have to worry about a claim. You trade an amount of heartless profits for reliability but you don't cheat anyone and you get the job done.

I'd like to point out if I may, if it looks like they have had a lot of current, also make sure that the terminal block at the bottom where the power cord attaches is okay. Every once in awhile I find one of the terminals melted and I have to replace it.

What if the little burner indicator light is on even when all switches are off? I feel no heat from any of the burners, but I turn the stove off at the breaker when not in use.
But mine the ceramic plates were getting less hot so I bridged the to feed all lines of the plates and now is getting hot at low setting, when I check the switches they look burned they have an arc showing on them. So u think it's the switches

We have glass top stoves and we had one where the burner wouldn't get hot enough on high. Turns out the burners have the thermostat on board so we replaced that. I loving bring in the property management field as a maintenance technician.

Keep those stoves going as long as possible because the new ones have a thermostat on them that has to be used with a perfectly flat pan. Government regulations forced g.e. / Haier to go with temperature regulating burners to reduce fires.
lex my bed room has no electric the breaker keeps tripping i put the wire in a different breaker and it trips that one i took covers off all the outlets and switches and i dont see any burnt marks can you help me out please thank you JIM
May be a bad outlet. I would disconnect them in your bedroom one at a time. Disconnect one outlet then turn the breaker on. If it trips, hook it back up and move to the next one. If you disconnect one and the breaker doesn't trip, that's the bad outlet. It's time consuming but that's how I would approach it.
it's possibly shared with ceiling light fixtures in other rooms, maybe outlets in hall/foyer, closet light. maybe even an outdoor outlet/gfci off that. so pretty much check the whole house indoor and out for non-working outlets/lights, including garage/outdoor wall lights, post lights. we wired that way in the mid 90's as did most, that way if the outlets tripped a breaker the light would stay on and vice versa, table lamps would stay on, also the hallway lights were shared off total other area. the whole idea being one tripped circuit didn't knock out all/much of the lighting at once.
I get the switches from HD Supply for around $10.00. If you go through my Amazon link that I posted in the video description below and search GE stove switch I'm sure you can find them. Just make sure it's for the 6 inch or 8 inch stove eye. Thank you for the update and for watching Jermaine!
I swear on Whirlpools getting that damn back plate back on is hardest part of replacing those infinity switches. Always check the voltage to see if it’s a small or large infinity switch it’s the print on the side is another thing guys miss.
The one large burner that I always used stayed hot when you turned it down sometimes, not always, but apparently it finally compromised the ceramic coil and burned a hole through it which cause an arc and sparks like an arc welder would and it burned a hole through a thick aluminum pan that was sitting on top of it in a matter of a couple seconds. Freaked me dafuq out!
Good job brother. I'm loving all of the failing GE's I get work orders on every week. Washers, (yesterday), Dryers (Today,) and Refrigerators (nearly every week. I just tell property management clients, "it's Chinese company owned crap." and install, new American made Whirlpools and Whirlpool made, low end "Ropers" (to my slum lord Section 8's). Whirlpool appliances are made in Tulsa and in Yankee Ohio. - My ant extermination experiment. Hey have you tried the new Hotshot brand Clear Ant and Roach Gel? An ant infestation showed up, oddly, in a renter's bathroom. Ants all over his nasty toothbrush was the ant's initial find. - I used the Hotshot gel, two dime sized, spots near the toothbrush, and within 2 hours all of the ants, the queen and the babies were all wiped out; as I had traced their nest to the dirt slab hole in the slab floor for the tub drain. I love that stuff for wiping out ants. - I leave roaches for the exterminator to deal with. But it probably works great on them too. -

I do residential rental homes and owner occupied homes only. - Memories I did college apartment and college dormitory maintenance one summer, many years ago. It was what you would call a "learning nightmare." LOL - What I remember most positive, was that an old master, George, taught me how to correctly paint. He called our boss, the Housing Director, "The man with the heavy shoes." Because you could hear him coming down the hallway 100 feet away. We'd straighten up our act. -

They are listening and responding. -
If my plugged in burner element ohms out from the wire ends with a meter. That eliminates burner element, socket and wiring. I unplug one end of the socket wiring from the switch. And I watch that it doesn't have a hole burn through any of the circle shaped form. I know this is probably overthinking it but the units I work on are really, really old and management tells me they cannot get appliances right now, because of covid. I am thinking they're not telling me the truth.

I had a tenant put a pot on the burner set on low then left to go shopping. Needless to say the fire dept. was not happy. I offered to replace the stove for free but he refused. The tenant owned the stove and did not want to part with it. We tossed it in the garbage after he died.
I can't even imagine working for a property where we just have 4 infinite switches lying around. As of right now, I got 3 salvage apartments going. One of them I'm supposed to be moving into! Cheap ass company. With our GE stoves we get the oven light on even when it's not in use. There's a purple wire that runs in series through all 4 switches. What causes the problem in a bad terminal on just one of the switches. 9 times out of 10 it's the front big burner. Especially if the tenants are Indian. Indians just love to burn up their appliances. Almost as much as landscapers just love to weed whack thermostat wires. Indians take appliance burning to the next level skid nasty. But that's okay. They keep me employed and they usually start businesses. Not burden tax payers. So they can burn away.
We have the same issue with our residence using high heat. When we replace these switches with 1560w when they burn up instead of the 2400w ones. That’s the color of Dot thing he was talking about

A switch could be bad allowing power to show on the indicator light or the indicator light is stuck on. Id need to be there to see what's going on.
