    I really respect how fast Oliveira releases his subs once they start tapping, you can even see in holds where he has a view of their hand, he's staring right at it and will release as soon as they start tapping

      Right? He also refused to break Ferguson's arm. Oliveira said on an interview he knew Ferguson wouldn't tap an armlock after surviving the overextension, so he decided not to take on his arm again. Really a gentle guy.

    Charles oliveira has so much experience at his age. He's the COMPLETE PACKAGE. Jiu jitsu, grappling, striking. The man has completely evolved himself throughout his career.

    What I love about Olivera is he’s willing to do anything to get the fight to ground. Shoots for double legs, trips, judo throws, pulls guard or knocks you down with strikes what ever it takes

      Half the reason Joe Rogan is part of the UFC is because he was an early BJJ blackbelt and friend with Eddie Bravo, and Joe was surprised by the Calf Slicer. . . and that was like 10 years ago. . . just goes to show how he is levels above the rest.

      @@kedr0n oh yeah, great catch. I started watching fights because I was lucky enough (?) to grow up pretty safe. Prob second most surprising thing I've picked up is how even a few extra inches of arm/leg length is a big deal, just like here (I'm stubby).
      P.s. most surprising is that cardio is *the* weapon above all others.

      @@justinkennedy3004 absolutely. Both of you with great statements. Cardio/willingness to work constantly is the greatest weapon in MMA. Hence why the Dagestan/Chechen figthers are the best in the world, as well as their grappling skills. But I assure you there is fighters from different places who have similar understanding and elite level of skill. They do not work as hard and don't have the conditioning like these Russians. There are many Chechen fighters that we haven't even heard of that are UFC ready for sure but just don't get the opportunity because of the visa issue and that political distance between US and Russia as well as some other factors.

      Not only finish, but his opponent tap so quickly. An example of what you said is Alexander vs Brain ortega. Brian Ortega got a good, text book guillotine and text book triangle as well. But Alexander got out, just with sheet strength.

    Fighting Oliveira must be a nightmare. If you're standing, he can knock you out with 1 punch. But he can also take you down easily. And if he does take you down, you're on the most dangerous place one can be on the entire UFC roster.

      When Khabib retired, Charles was not ranked in the top 5. The thought of him facing Khabib at the time wasn't really something of consideration. Only now that he's the champion do the fans want it.

By that stage Khabib was already retired but Dana and the UFC dragged their feet over the whole process, they spent months on end trying to convince Khabib to comeback even holding up the division in the process. Nearly 5 months had needlessly gone past before the title was officially vacated.
      Had Khabib not retired there's a good chance he would have faced the winner of Chandler vs Oliveira, possibly for an interim title as Khabib wasn't always available to defend.

    Its gotta be the most impressive arc in MMA history right? just 4 years ago dude was a dead AVERAGE fighter, and like 20-8 going win-loss-loss-win-loss. And now he's turned into a Jon Jones level talent and is essentially p4p number 1 (LW deepest weight class) on a 10 fight T-Ferg type win streak. Oliveira's career is like watching Limp Bizkit turn into Beethoven, it makes no fucking sense and I love it.
