  • This Standard Vi & Jack deck uses the new Pit Champion card to use focus speed prize fights. This card is a little bit broken because it's essentially burst speed damage, an effect that can easily break the game.

    I've been running Gwen vex with legion marauders and the new gloom equipment because they outscale the self inflicted gloom while quickly leveling up Gwen

    prize fight effects have been broken with VI and Nasus since their launch, instead of coding so the unit receiving damage stays at 1 health after damage cauculations it instead reduces the damage instance to 1 less than that units health, which in a way is consistent with tough that also reduces the damage dealt by 1, however is entirely unintuitive.
    It's coded like that probably because it's easier to get the health value of the unit receiving damage and do all the math inside the dealing damage script than to ask the unit recieving damage's script to handle this specific case in parallel
    the best solution would be to change Vi's and Nasus's condition to "I've struck while having 10+ power"

      That's the only interaction I've been waiting for Riot to change ever since Jack first dropped. As soon as Prize Fight was revealed my mind immediately went to Nasus but, alas, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

      Its not a broken interaction but definitely intended. The problem is that nasus and vi needs to have dealt 10+ dmg and the effect of tough and prize fight modifies the attack value before hitting. There are cards in the game that actually take lethal damage but they also get ressurected after taking the damage(the invoke phoenix, the 6 mana demacia bird) and thats because they actually allow the numbers to count fully.

      It's actually pretty logical. Going by the lore, Prize fight is a duel where both contenders agree to not kill each other, because they're just going after the prize. If one of the units is strong enough to kill the other, they'll stop before, not dealing as much damage as they could because they agreed to not kill.
      So yeah, I'd say it's pretty correct that it works like this.

    People have talked about the Vi tough interactions enough, so I want to point out something else: the "10 dmg in one strike" also counts impact. e.g. She levels up when stiking with 9 power and 1 impact.

    5:10 you confused the Prize Fight interaction with the Tough interaction XD
    Tough reduces incoming damage by 1, so it's correct to go to 11 attack on Vi to level her. Prize Fight is a super duper tough, though, you deal only damage until it hits one hp. So yeah, no matter the amount of attack, if the target has 2 hp, it will strike for 1. If the target has 1, it will strike for 0 XD

      And the Survival Skills interaction is different still! You deal all the damage to the enemy, but their health doesn't go lower than 1. It's a different interaction and it works as intended.
      Even by logic, Prize Fight is a mock battle, a duel where both fighters agree to stop before the other dies. If one of them is strong enough to kill, they stop before dealing too much damage. Survival Skills instead is extreme resilience, a unit that, no matter how much damage it takes, will not go down no matter what. So yeah, Vi and Nasus won't level with Prize fight, but they will by slamming all their damage on a Survival Skills unit.

    The interaction with prize fight also happens on units with lifesteal. Say you have a Morgana and you use prise fight on her and an enemy unit with 2hp, you just heal 1hp regardless of her attack.

    The prize fight interaction is silly because it feels like it’s worded wrong. It says that the cards Strike each other, and that they cannot drop below one health. In my mind this would mean that they both strike each other for the full damage and that the card simply cannot die, but that’s not what happens in actuality and that seems really weird and that it should not work that way.

      Also, the wording "they can't drop below one health from THIS strike" implies that the strike changes strenght based on their health. It's not obvious, but correct.

      if the card has 2 hp your striking it for 1damage to drop it to 1hp if the card has 11 hp your straiking it for 10 damage to bring it to one, i think thats how its coded so for vis interaction she isnt actually striking it for 10 damage its how much damage you need to bring it to 1 hp

      Prize Fight says "An ally and an enemy Keyword Strike strike each other. They can't drop below 1 health from this strike."
      Vi says "I've Keyword Strike struck for 10+ Damage."
      I would argue your point isnt true, as nothing in the wording of Prize Fights mentions decreasing strike damage, but says "They can't drop below 1", and in my mind that implies the ally striles for their total power, but the enemy cannot die from it. It is coded rather differently than that, and it instead has the ally deal damage equal to rhe enemies toughness - 1.

      @@jorgejimemez1627 except i think htey way its coded is that they deal the damage to bring it down to 1 hp so if u have 2 hp its only 1 strike of damage, so technically vi didnt struck with 10 damage she struck with only 1 if the unit had 11 hp then she would have struck for 10 damage

      @@jorgejimemez1627 I feel when a card says “can’t drop below 1 health” the intuitive thing to understand from that is that any damage dealt would be reduced to meet that requirement. Striking is a way of dealing damage, so it is reduced. It is consistent with how though works.

      @christofferandersen1906 I don't feel the intuitive thing is to assume the strike damage would be reduced to that requirement, my intuition is rather that they do their entire strike damage as they strike each other, however this damage from the entire strike cannot reduce them below 1.

    I think that when you proze fight you strike for the amount of damage that is their health minus 1 but when you strike something and kill it you deal over damage based on the power of vi so with a strike that kills a creature you would deal its health and then extra damage ubtil you have dealt 10

    This is a good cook, I think a lot of the countdown cards are insane but their high skill ceiling will make them less popular then auto play Eddy.

    If you had 10 attack with vi and challenged something with tough, she didn't level. So I'm pretty sure vi always worked that way.

    The prize fight effect does damage equal to target HP -1 no? If you hit a 4 health unit it cant go below 1, so all damage over 3 is "wasted"

    Learned this the hard way: Cards like Prize Fight don’t level Vi if the target is already at 1 hp. The program takes whatever damage would be dealt and minuses enough to leave 1 hp, so for a 1hp unit, the program brings the damage to 0 total

    Vi is still great in this deck because if you level her up you can use prize rights while she is attacking and you will proc her 5 damage to nexus. Its like using a strike spell on a unit with 5 impact that is atracking.

    16:27 ive only started playing Lor like 9 months ago but its more strange to me if a prize fight would actually level vi with 3 damage dealt. I know we have the "can't read" meme but they usually word the effects correctly. It says "I've struck for x damage", not "striking with x amount of attack" or "attacking with x amount" is there any reason why this would be confusing? Maybe riot has released cards that dont do exactly what they say but vi seems like that's how it eas intended to work

      yea because her card says ive struck with 10+damage in a single strike with prize fight shes only striking for the exact amount of damage required to bring it to 1hp but i dont think most people could read that part and just read it as strike with 10+ damage and not the in one attack part

    Prize fight doesn't work with her with a card wich has 1 hp because if they has 1hp, they don't take damage (i found it myself too in the hard way lol)

    So my guess is that dealing 0 damage in combat counts as a combat whiff as if you where in combat with a unit that died by mystic shot. If it works like that, a unit needs to have at least 2 health for Vi to level up with pit champion

      The best explanation is that, hp does not matter since negative numbers is a thing in the game. Vi can level up hitting a 1hp unit due the excess damage counting towards negative numbers but prize fight does not allow the number to fall to 0 and below. For vi to level up with prize fight, the unit has to be 11 hp at least since she requires to shred off 10 hp to lvl up.

      ​@@eizhamm4820 Let me extend my original point, I did skipped past the "important" part tbf:
      As a programmer, that thing I said could be how it works. It may detect that a unit has 1 HP and ignore calculations since by the combat itself it cannot die. At least that's an easy out of useless calculations.
      What you propose could maybe work but I personally don't think so. If it worked like you said it should:
      Calculate the damage a unit receives, temporarily store that value and then use that to both subtract from health and give appropiate progression to level up requirements. It would be then and only after all that happened that a champion would (if able) level up. That last part we know since they level up before a unit dies from said damage.
      Therefore, regardless of the "can't fall below 1HP" condition the value if the combat damage occurred should have been accounted, since the operation would have just added a "if less than 1 set to 1" to HP values. The actual damage would have remained the same.
      That is why I suggested the "combat whiff."

      @hazamax2139 @hazamax2139 the combat whiff you are suggesting is basically a blocker getting removed before combat resolves and hence combat has not occured but its certainly a different case when it comes to prize fight and thats because the strike effect still goes through making it not a combat whiff like you have said in as much as the units have at least 1 attack. I have played a bunch to know how it works. So, for example, champs that require striking for level will still level up.

      @@eizhamm4820 Yeah, that's the importance of the quotation. I'm not saying it's the exact same, but pointing to those cases for easy reference.
      Strike is entirely a different condition, same as attacking being different. Which is why if we go to terms combat didn't even occur since combat is defined as attacking a blocker. This is why I disregard terminology, it's just less confusing this way. We both know what you mean by combat in this scenario.
      By combat whiff I meant the point in which a unit doesn't strike nexus since, as you said, the blocker was removed. Thus it whiffs, [disregarding the calculations that would come after with an HP check that results in 0/null.] The 0/null is simply there because I'd assume those cases could be taken as 0/0 blockers for purposes of overwhelm calculations but we can ignore that and take it as null for this thought process.
      Pit champion [disregards the calculations that would come after with an HP check that results in 1]. Is it now clearer why I say that it whiffs? There's a lot of recycling in code. I can see some using the same fuction with different values for this. That's what I imply with the brackets.
      This is an error, I'm definetely not saying this is how it should work. You can see that intuitively the outcome should be Vi levels up. For that reason, thinking "Oh I play so much I know how it works" doesn't really help. You know how things work when they are working as intended. Bugs do NOT work as intended, obviously. That's why I am talking about calculations and programming. Because that's where the error is.
      Is it exactly how I say it is? I'm willing to bet it isn't. I'm just spouting the first thought in my mind that could lead to said error, there could definetely be other reasons. I'm a programmer. I'm just a nerd that likes card games and found a chance to mix a bit of both.

    New Jack landmark can not flip Vi in anyway but that landmark is pretty useful because you can get 5 gold (if Jack equipped) and free heal, Prize Fight is pretty OP this time, can kill ephemeral and flip Vi even make Vi punch multiple times, Story landmark is pretty work different than old landmark, it kind of skill type than Landmark effect that can progress Annie or Jhin and maybe that why it don’t make Vi flip because it not counted as Vi striked by herself or maybe it just bug

      i think its how prize fight is coded, because she needs to strike with the full 10 damage, prize fight overrides it by having her deal the exact damage to recude the op to 1hp so if its a 4hp unit its 3 damage dealt etc

    That prize fight's condition is clearly make sense. So you cannot hit them lower than 1 hp which mean Vi strikes some unit with 1hp she deals zero damage. When she deal a unit which is 11hp so she's level up

    They should just change it to "I strike while having 10+ attack". The attack stat is right on the unit and it's pretty clear when a unit strikes, too. So there wouldn't be so much room for interpretation
