O'Brien shows Barclay his pet spider

This is a shot from the 6th season episode of Star Trek The Next Generation called "Realm of Fear", just before it ends, in Ten Forward, where Transporter Chief Miles Edward O'Brien is showing Reginald Barclay, who has a phobia of the transporters and who thus normally avoids O'Brien, his pet spider, a tarantula named "Christine". Notably, Barclay is also not comfortable with spiders.

What would happen if O'Brian took it easy and took longer to get their drinks? Barclay would have to babysit the spider longer while O'Brian had a conversation with the bartender.
