My wife, Christine, and I have just discovered your videos this evening (2019-10-11). We are both amazed at the depth of your analysis, your depth of knowledge, and your impressively, powerful presentation.
The way in which you present previously unknown paintings (for the general populous at least) is fantastically illuminating. Van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms is an exemplar.
You ask at the end of your videos for suggestions for further subjects. I would ask for MORE Van Eyck, the Elizabethan miniaturist Nicholas Hilliard, and Van Dyck.
Many many thanks for your work.
Last night we had the misfortune to bump in to the first of a three-part series titled “The Northern Renaissance” presented by an American. He spoke about “dooks” when he meant “dukes” and he spoke about “toobs of paint” when he meant “tubes of paint”. He also used that irritating American illiteracy “different than” as in: “chalk is different than cheese”. “Americans don’t understand that “different” is not a comparison (higher than, fatter than), it is a statement of differing categories. We cannot watch parts 2 and 3 of this absurdity.
Your English on the other hand is impeccable, and a complete delight.
Many many thanks for your work. (Did I already say that?)
    John Watson

      Dear mr. Watson,
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am afraid I am going to make plenty of mistakes when it comes to the English language, but I will continue to do my best.
More importantly, thank you for your suggestions. I will certainly discuss moer Van Eyck soon, and of course Van Dyck. I hadn't even thought of Hilliard, but that is a great idea. I think I will do an instagram post on him first.
I feel embarrassed to ask, after your kindness, but please tell your friends about my channel, and I hope you will like my upcoming video's as-well.

This is such a wonderful painting and I loved hearing the story it tells. There is a very similar painting in Wilton House here in the UK...they have attributed it to Rembrandt and call it 'Rembrandt's Mother'

That's right! I forgot about that one. Thanks for reminding me. It does seem to be the same woman doesn't it?

If the lady is having trouble reading the Bible, and must hold the pages close and form the words as she is reading, perhaps the sentence from Luke is appropriate. She is not blind, but maybe has lost a part of her vision, or is losing it. And wishes it could be restored, alas! I am perhaps her age and in her situation! Also, by the by, I used to be an artists' model. It takes great patience and the ability, which can be learned, to hold perfectly still.......

What an underwhelming presentation . . . "please hit 'like' and subscribe" - not much chance of that.
