I’m an old March AFB guy that went thru initial pilot qual in the KC-10 in Jan of ‘94…I left the KC-10 17 years later from the 70th ARS at Travis in May of 2011, when I retired… I had over 6500 hrs in the -10 when I left and still miss her somewhat…although I don’t miss the deployments to bases like Al Dhafra, which is where this video was taken out of… It’s a great airplane and the USAF has definitely used the hell outta these things…which is why they’re already parking some of them in the boneyard… She (the KC-10) served this country well and I’m thankful for the service of all these younger people that served after me…God Bless and keep the blue side up…Max
MAFB here also, 89-most of 92....my first PCS and loved every minute of it. i was a jet mech on the -10's. i had my hands on all 20 of them. it is so sad to see so many of them go to the boneyard and more to go. the most capable tanker we have ever had and this.
Joking with someone I know that flies them and added they should use them for their endless touch and go landings and training new air crews and after they are done or they need major work take them out to the desert and use it for spare parts, it would free up some aircraft to what they’re designed for passing gas on top The FedEx planes have the newest glass cockpits unlike what the KC10 are using
MD-10 cockpits were suggested many years ago and the Air Force didn't go with that idea, and there are a ton more modifications to a KC-10 than just the cockpit
I’ve always wondered, when the boom operator makes contact with receiver aircraft and fuel begins to flow, do they ever say out loud, “take it all you bitch?”
Very interesting. I was under the impression all the DC10's were Extender types. This video shows them as cargo carriers as well. Can they be mission changed for either duty?
@@zparkyy1800 That's a shame...FRom what I understand these KC-10 were good at their role and taking into consideration what's going on with the KC-46 it's a shame that the Air Force is pushing them out.
@@FMichael1970" The Pegasus’ vision system, a network of cameras and sensors boom operators use to guide the refueling boom into other aircraft, has continued to be a serious issue for the aircraft. Users of the original vision system had problems seeing the image or with distorted images in certain lighting conditions." here is some info on why the kc46 is getting that response

Seeing that B-52 come up off the desert and refuel was fantastic, so well maintained. Great job Extender crew!
As an Australian I can say that this is a fantastic multi rule aircraft. Can’t wait to see it this week at Avalon airshow.
I love the sound of those aft fuel pumps. I miss the -10 so much.
As Veteran , I like to take you all for your service!
The Air Force should buy Fed Ex md-10 for the cockpits some were used only 8 years after conversion

The Air Force is sending KC-10s to the bone yard.

Passengers are grounded this trip!

All Tanker aircraft have a secondary role as cargo transport
@@kevinhom8812 Thanks Kevin: I did not know that.
They're all cargos now. FedEx owns a bunch... That's the only service they have

Awesome video! Tfs

This has to be declassified...I wonder where in the desert they are in the first mission - the refueling?
