Hopefully fingers crossed.a company sponsers you a jackery with solar panel.that way you would be able to charge your stuff on the property.will make life much easier when you move up there.
ok, episode 3 earned the subscription - I'm 3 years away from doing the same in northern ontario and the honest and simple approach with all the challenges is exactly what I like about the channel and can't wait to see what's ahead!
I really appreciate people like you with the effort you take filming so we can enjoy your journey. It's great seeing it come to life. As others said, what you don't know you learn and things don't have to be perfect. I was impressed with your chainsaw lumber for your first try and no professional jig machine. We'll done and looking forward to the next video
Your progress is looking great. Don't worry about what you don't know, visualize what you want to accomplish and keep going. everything doesn't have to be done a certain way. The 8' x 10' building will serve you well! it is like twice the square footage of your van. I really enjoy your videos keep up the great work.
You can get an attachment for your chain saw that acts like a guide so you can mill wood planks without hauling a large portable lumber mill to your property
Great video Shawn. Don’t beat yourself up to badly about the tree. It will come. When we lived in Penny…we did the river crossing g for fifteen years. We brought quads, tractors etc across the river. We recently bought 70 acres down river from you and very excited to move there. Thankfully at our age there is a shop and small house already, anyways great video, 🇨🇦❄️
As a fellow British Columbian, you have to admire our Province for the rugged beauty. How’s the fishing on that river? You’re doing great work, keep up the positive vibes and energy
With the challenge of getting to your property it must feel amazing knowing that you are going to be able to live there in total privacy. Knowing that there is nobody close must be a very new feeling. Love the dream, great to see you going for it.👍
If you get that place built before winter you will need approximately 4 to 6 cord of wood seasoned dry wood. Cut down standing dead trees cut them up and split them for firewood. Good luck on your build God bless
Just discovered your channel and am immediately hooked! Love your humbleness and humour. You are an inspiration, keep doing exactly what you're doing. There is zero chance you won't be successful on youtube!
Love this channel and your videos. Great work on the property and can’t wait to see the next video. Wish there was more to watch! Congrats on all your effort in building, filming and posting the cods.
Use a string and weight held parallel to the trunk and c which way the tree wants to go. Used wedges to help convince the tree to go where you’d like it to go.
Look at the Dewalt worm drive saw and the nail gun. Combined with a decent "solar generator" these tools will pay for themselves. I ended up with the battery powered table saw and miter saw as I got deeper into my build. A small generator or solar panel will keep your batteries going for days. Go ahead and throw a couple propellers on your boat too; life savers.
What an awesome property, great size for homesteading. You don't look like you're scared of tackling new skills and from what you've achieved already I'd say you'll be very successful.
200w portable solar panels, a deep cycle battery, charge controller and power inverter would be ideal for charging your tool batteries up there without the need for lugging gas up for a generator, it's quiet as well.
You were disappointed in the tree you fell so thought I would highly recommend you look at a guy who knows his way around taking down most any tree & gives lots of tips. I think he may be a tree whisperer? Fellow you tuber, Bucking Billy Ray. Love your channel but be safe!
It’s videos like these that got me posting my own videos of my cabin build. Keep up the good work mate looks a great build, similar dimensions as mine by the looks of it.
Great to see more footage of your progress! And good call on the small build to start with while you are alone. As for being alone, please wear some protective saw gear, you're too far out and hard to access for a good result with a chainsaw mishap
Just found your channel and watched first 3 episodes. Love the authencity and progress you are getting. I wish you all the best and good luck from Finland.
Awesome man, will be so much nicer when you have a place where you can stay on the property. You are doing a great job, really enjoying your videos. Stay safe.
Really interesting and i'm not a health and safety geek but chainsawing like that without safety gear, trousers etc in the middle of nowhere just seems too risky to me. It only takes one slip.... Stay safe.
Found your channel a few weeks back , thankyou really enjoy you practical approach and very high quality footage . It's really impressive how far out you are travelling and the battle you've already had . Wishing you all the best luck and really looking forward to many more episodes. Thankyou from Melbourne Australia 🦘🌏
I followed on the first video. You have an awesome property. And cabin. Looking forward to all you coming videos. You are being blessed to live the lifestlye you dreamed of. Live all your dreams. When dealing with weather and nature it is always a stuggle but it does get easier. 😊
I love what you're doing, me and the hubby have similar aspirations! I felt terrible about your prop; I have friends who's families cabin is up a shallow channel; they use buoys (empty bleach bottles) to mark the really shallow parts to avoid! Could save you some time and $$. Cheers!
I live in Alabama. That is some absolutely gorgeous property. You are very blessed. What part of Canada are you in. Glad you are making your dream come ture!!! GOD BLESS!
YOU NATURALLY HAVE A CARPENTRY MIND. IT SEEMS TO EASILY COME TO YOU....AND YOU CAN WIELD THAT HAMMER LIKE A REAL PROFESSIONAL....I NOW WAY COULD DRIVE NAILS INTO WOOD WITH ONLY A FEW SWINGS OF THE HAMMER.
The cross bracing for the floor/foundation should make that thing ridiculously sturdy. Not sure if it's necessary for something that small, but I've never built a cabin before.
Love the show. You ever thought of investing in a cheap beater flat bottom boat to pull behind your boat for supplies? Would make your life alot easier I think.
I’m so jealous of you! ❤ beautiful piece of property you have there….keep on posting, we’ll be watching! 😊 You seem to have a lot of knowledge on how to build….did you teach yourself or do you work in the field?
I built a 16x32 ft gambel cabin. In Maine for $3300 usd. Complete frame got all doors and windows wood stope and insulated stove pipe kit worth 1100 usd for free off grid
Great content Shawn! Loving the scenery, absolutely breathtaking!!! Would love to come check it out in person someday…. not going to lie, those Grizzly bears might put off lol 😬
Great video and content , i am so impressed at the progress that you have made, i take it your base camp is right off the main road on the beginning of your 40A , what will it take to put a trail to your river site? I always look forward to your videos stay safe out there and i am sure your pew pew is near by just incase
Well done. By the time you build that first cabin, you will know exactly what to do for the "second" real cabin. Then the third and so on. You are correct, though. Need a place to sleep. I might have insulated that floor. built the frame, and put in insulation. put plywood over it. flipped it and put a subfloor on. But, not sure what one man could "flip," I would be struggling along with you to know what to do. LOL. Really enjoying your adventure. As long as the cabin is warm you have it licked.
Not many people know, but our ancestors never did this like this. They did it in family units. This is not criticising. But you'll find that after a while, you will get lonely no matter what anyone says. All im saying is it's not good to do this by yourself for too long. Love the channel bud.
Hopefully fingers crossed.a company sponsers you a jackery with solar panel.that way you would be able to charge your stuff on the property.will make life much easier when you move up there.
41 acres! Wonderful! I would never want to leave!
ok, episode 3 earned the subscription - I'm 3 years away from doing the same in northern ontario and the honest and simple approach with all the challenges is exactly what I like about the channel and can't wait to see what's ahead!
Go for it Blake!

Great video you need a solar panel to charge batteries
Greetings from Newfoundland Canada. Beauty spot, great vid n thanks for sharing. Cheers from da ROCK!
Keep more videos coming

You never lose by trying something new. You learn from every little thing you try.😊

Wow, I have to say that I’m impressed with what you’ve accomplished, what a gem you’ve created with this channel too, it is outstanding!
With the challenge of getting to your property it must feel amazing knowing that you are going to be able to live there in total privacy. Knowing that there is nobody close must be a very new feeling. Love the dream, great to see you going for it.👍

Get yourself some logging wedges. You will be able to assure the trees go where you want them. It will be a lot safer for you and your equipment.
Great video, solid hard work, keep it up brother. I can tell this isn't your first rodeo.
I'm just starting episode 3 and am enthralled.
I could never do this and while I am a pepper you are absolutely awesome.
Should have your Inreach on a lanyard or attached to your vest. Whilst motorcycling on or off road, mine is always on my body
GREAT ATTITUDE LOTS OF GOOD WORK ALL IN A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN I STARTED MINE IN 1971 STILL WORKING AT IT LOTS OF FULLFILLMENT
Glad to see you starting to build!
What an awesome property, great size for homesteading. You don't look like you're scared of tackling new skills and from what you've achieved already I'd say you'll be very successful.
Keep up the hard work your Living my dream man . Such a awsome place am new on here . I been checking out every video.
Thought of using 55 gallon barrels as a floating pontoon boat? Could haul quite a load with it. Just a thought.
Well done I take my hat off to you a lot of hard work but it will all be worth it much respect from the UK and all the very best .
200w portable solar panels, a deep cycle battery, charge controller and power inverter would be ideal for charging your tool batteries up there without the need for lugging gas up for a generator, it's quiet as well.
Beautiful country - good luck with the build - and having plenty firewood for winter

Great job mate! Looking forward to the next vid. All the best from down under.
Stay safe!👍😎
Nice to have a place to cook and get out of the weather.
Seeing you move all the wood and plywood on your boat brings back memories for me. We had to do it for our houseboat.😊
Great to see more footage of your progress! And good call on the small build to start with while you are alone. As for being alone, please wear some protective saw gear, you're too far out and hard to access for a good result with a chainsaw mishap
Awesome progress! Watching you build your cabin from my off grid cabin in Ontario! Cant wait for the next epidodes! I am invested!😂

Just found your channel and watched first 3 episodes. Love the authencity and progress you are getting. I wish you all the best and good luck from Finland.

Awesome work, looks amazing so far. can't wait for your next video!
Good stuff .
The cross bracing for the floor/foundation should make that thing ridiculously sturdy. Not sure if it's necessary for something that small, but I've never built a cabin before.
You could wrap the porch in thick gage hardware cloth to detour the bears and critters somewhat
Fantastic progress, looking forward to the next video!
You're living my dream, but doing it so much better than I ever could. Keep the vids coming
Love your content, keep up the good work, I will continue to follow your journey my friend 🙏👍
Very impressing. I think it's hard to find a good start because there is so much to do.
Love the show. You ever thought of investing in a cheap beater flat bottom boat to pull behind your boat for supplies? Would make your life alot easier I think.
I’m so jealous of you! ❤ beautiful piece of property you have there….keep on posting, we’ll be watching! 😊
You seem to have a lot of knowledge on how to build….did you teach yourself or do you work in the field?
I have the same question
My dad used to say, heck there's not much to clearing land son, just start a small fire and don't let it go out...
GOOD LUCK FRND ...
Amazing, loving the dream❤❤
GOOD VIDEOS
I built a 16x32 ft gambel cabin. In Maine for $3300 usd. Complete frame got all doors and windows wood stope and insulated stove pipe kit worth 1100 usd for free off grid

Can't wait for the next installment. Great progress and filming !
Great progress!
Not many people know, but our ancestors never did this like this.
They did it in family units.
This is not criticising.
But you'll find that after a while, you will get lonely no matter what anyone says.
All im saying is it's not good to do this by yourself for too long.
Love the channel bud.
Ok, just found your video today, it’s real interesting so I’ve subscribed, I’m looking forward to what you do next. Take care 🌸
What an incredible location. Congrats
If felling trees was easy, everyone would be doing it. There a reason it costs $2000.00 in the U.S. for some trees to be removed.
If you use wedges u can direct the tree where u want it to go 😊- but always dangerous
Great Video
