- Salem's Lot has definitely occupied my space this past weekend. I watched the 2024 remake, and felt compelled to watch the original 1979 movie directly after. Here's my experience, and review of the new movie. #SalemsLot

The original Tobe Hooper one is great just watched it last night, holds up really well in the suspense acting cinematography you name it, and floating creepy kids in the middle of the night smiling scratching your window to come in is perfect nightmare fuel for years LOL
I completely disagree after just rewatching it. I don't get the love for 79.
Yeah I’d even say it might be the scariest vampire movie ever!
I didn’t realize that Susan in the original was the actress that played Holly John McClane’s wife in Die hard .
Yep!
The 1979 film was a made for TV two parter, that’s why the DVD’s running time is so long
Yeah, it did not play in the theater. It was a big event on TV. I'm sure the ratings were huge.
@@citygirl5705it played in uk cinemas
I agree. The original scared me so much. I was 10 years old and couldn’t sleep afterwards…. Lance Kerwin, David Soul and James Mason were excellent casting. Thank you Lee. 👹
Welcome!
Exactly 10 years old
The Original Salem´s Lot was way better than the remake.
The 2004 version was way better than this, too. But yeah the original is still the best.
Oh definitely.
Everyone was kids when the original came out. If the new one was out when we were younger . The original one today is cheesy and not even scary. No such thing as a time machine
Hope you’re staying safe out there Lee. This hurricane looks like no joke.
Yeah we’re hunkering down. Hoping it isn’t too crazy.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Wait your in Florida?
I Thank you For Loving the OG Salem's Lot. That Jail scene made me Jump 😮 and yesssss Review the OG moive 👍please
Yeah so many great moments in the og.
Very different movies with different strengths and weaknesses. I love both of them.
Yes!
I knew that this new one would not be able to compete with the awesome 1979 original, but I still found it entertaining. I would love to see the three-hour cut. I hope this released on Blu-Ray so I can shelve it next to the original and the 2004 version.
Yeah that movie is elite status.
Please do a review of the original I love the original it's one of my favourites and it creeped me out when I was young ❤
Ok will do!
I need to see the original and I definitely had no idea there was one from 2004 with Rob Lowe. Yes, please do a catalog review; this certainly sounds worthy of one!
I gave this bulls@it about 45 minutes and that was enough for me. I'll stick with the miniseries from the 70's.
Yes! I love the catalogue reviews. Still waiting on you to do Night Game with Roy Scheider.
My fave moment in the original is where Ben was stalking the house and Stryker pops up and there is like this moment of silent menace between the two face to fave and the shot lingers on his face and he says"good evening" and then goes off. It's that kinda acting that invokes a sense of dread on the film and leaves you uneasy.
Yes the actor that played Straker in the og was classic!
Check out the Rob Lowe Salems lot also pretty decent ! The OG Salem's lot is one of my favs..
The Rob Lowe Salem's Lot I really like it's a shame it didn't capture the Atmosphere of the Original. But it's way better than this 2024 version 😂
The remake felt rushed, and should have either been another miniseries or split into two chapters like Muscietti's It films. There was a lot going on but none really explained thoroughly. Also why did the head vampire's face look like a Spirit Halloween mask. I did like the drive in sequence, and the kid that played Mark was the only one that to me came in and clocked in to work. Oh, and we can't forget Alfre Woodard's over the top performance.
Definitely want a review of the 1979 movie one of my all time favourite movies watch it at least once every year! Keep up the great work 👏🏻
I would watch the 2004 TV movie over this 2024 remake. And looking at other comments I'm surprised by how many love the 2004 adaptation - I thought I was the only person who liked it as many horror places hate on it so much...... 😂
I’m curious about it.
Check out the 2004 version, definitely not as good as the original, but I think definitely better then this one
love the book , 2004 salems lot is my fav , rob lowe , james cromwell , donald sutherland , rutger hauer , it very close to the book
I thought I was the only person who liked that adaptation as it gets a lot of hate 😂
Oh damn!
The original Tobe Hooper was a TV movie or mini series- why it's so long.
I really liked this movie. Mostly because the Stephen King book is my favorite of his, so any adaptation is automatic like from me. Even the 2004 one had some merit to me. I don’t think I ever saw the sequel to the 1979 movie “Return to ‘Salem’s Lot”, though.
I enjoyed the 2004 version too although it takes a lot of lets say "liberties" with the story which people hated but I was still entertained. Don't watch Returns to Salems lot though as it's dreadfull and has nothing to do with the original only in name.
Please review 1979 version .
Cannot believe you do not see the original being a horror fan. You definitely should do a review of the 79 mini-series.
Midnight Mass set a high standard for the genre, but Warner Brothers missed the mark with this adaptation, failing to create something that lives up to repeat viewings. They squandered the opportunity to make this version truly memorable.
They even failed with Barlow! Half the time, it looked like CGI or a Halloween mask!! WTF!
Even if there is a 3 hour version of this movie, I don't think it would make much of a difference as the acting wasn't all that great.
Midnight Mass captured in the tone and atmosphere of Salem's Lot without it even being a Salem's Lot film 😂
The boy scratching at the window is a core memory of mine. Haven't seen the new one in whole yet. Halfway through life interfered very much but will finish it when I get home. From what I saw it isn't bad
Yes it’s still effective to this day.
I am a big fan of vampire movies so this is one I will be seeing; I’ll have to give the 1979 version as well as the 2004 which before today, had no idea existed.
I will definitely watch it soon. Definitely do a review of the original movie please 🙏
I completely agree with you about the original TV movie. 😂❤🎃
tobe hooper klasiğini 88 yılında kalabalık bir arkadaş grubuyla, mahallede tek vhs video kaset cihazı olan arkadaşın evinde seyretmiştik.tuvalete veya başka bir işi olup kalkan koridorun ışığını yakıyordu korkudan.ben yetmemiş stephen king'in romanınıda okumuştum.2004 uyarlamadada donald sutherland ve rutger hauer var.onlar birlikte buffy the vampire slayer'ın sinema filminde oynamışlardı.
Do we know why it wasn’t ever released in theaters or why there was such a long delay. By the way, it was actually filmed in 2021/2022 and was supposed to be released theatrical in September 2022.
I’m guessing Covid.
@@DrumdumsOfficial the only explanation I found was “post-production issues”.
My friends and I just watched it and we thoroughly enjoyed it!!! We watched the original mini series a few years back and while good, it just kind of trudged along and quite frankly got a bit boring. Maybe it was because of the environment, being around friends in a group setting, but I'm glad this new one "Cut the Fat" and got right down to it. Honestly, in King's stories, there is a lot of minuscule development that goes nowhere, so this new remake is basically an abbreviation of both the novel and miniseries. That's not a bad thing. People nowadays don't have the time to sit through three hours of a movie or miniseries, and sometimes shows have become a chore to binge watch or wait a whole week for a new episode to come. Was it perfect? No...but what's perfect? There may be an extended cut that puts back some of the things left on the cutting room floor, but again, I had a lot of fun with this remake.
I loved the gritty atmosphere of the OG and even the Rob Lowe's. 😊
I just saw 2004. Not bad actually, except Barlow sucks. I love Rutger Hauer but wow what a bad casting
The original is my favorite vampire movie. I'm extremely hesitant to watch the new one based on the negative reviews I've seen.
I think it’s my favorite too!
The 1979 Tobe Version is my favourite Vampire story of all time. I knew this new version was a reworking and I knew it wouldn't compare to the original, but as an old school popcorn Vampire movie, I had fun with it for what it was.
Thanks for reviewing this, It’s one of my favorite vampire movies. The original. I totally agree on this review, The new one is fun. Original is better. I didn’t know that was Juliet Lewis’s father , but I can see it now.
Yeah I like both for different reasons.
I remember years ago saying to you to ‘Please please please watch the original.’. Glad you did and liked it. Nothing like it would be on regular TV now. There is a version cut down and released as a movie.
I’m so glad I finally did Mary.
I liked the remake… a very classic approach to vampires and a decent remake
❤❤❤❤ loved the remake and Stephen king
2004 feels more like 90s SK based movies. My fav. Samantha Mathis❤
Love Samantha Mathis!
I can't see the new one I don't have Max .
Definitely give the original a review Lee! I saw this week too and I fell in love with it, been obsessed these last few days. Excited to see your thoughts
Same!!
To those of you who liked the ‘79 and didn’t care for this one, give 2004 a try. Honestly it’s long enough to learn about the stories of all the characters, has a decent cast and Rutger Hauer plays Barlow. Legend!
You never saw the OG? SHAME (bell ring) SHAME (bell ring).
Sorry Lee, this is a terrible terrible remake, all the hype I had for this movie maybe dampened my experience, I knew within the first 15 mins I was going to dislike this movie. CGI sucks the life out of this, practical is a must with any horror movie. Sorry Lee but this one is a d - for me, nothing compared to the original.
I love the og and grew up with it, but the newest one is good. Not any where near as good as the og one, but compared to other reboots, it works.
Ild love to see a review of the original movie!
Yes please review the original Salem's Lot.
I'm always down for some Stephen King...
The original was a television mini series. They did that with the langorliers and rose red. Two parts each
I really enjoyed the new one. The old one is very dated visually.
Would absolutely love a review for the original! One of the few movies that legit creeped the hell outta me as a kid. Glad some are enjoying the remake, but it mostly fell flat for me.
Isn't the original a miniseries?
Yes.
Fun Jen Fact, the original I first saw in school. You might be wondering how. We use to have school clubs final Fridays of the month you could sign up for. I picked to join the movie club. In October, Teacher wanted to pick a horror movie, being October and all, but most of them at the time was still rated R, was just before the boom period of PG-13 horror. However, Salem's Lot being rated PG was OK to be shown, so we watched that, and I loved it. Lead me to checking out the 2004 Remake, which I didn't care much for. Now then, as for this movie, I gave it a B-. I liked it more than the 2004 Remake, but not even close to how much I liked the original. Anyways, thank you, Lee.
To me this remake is as tame as the 2004 version (with Rob Lowe). I felt the same way when I was watching "Doctor Sleep" by comparison to the "Shining". Now you must watch "A Return To Salem's Lot" directed by the also legendary Larry Cohen because that one was a fun ride, in a different way.
I don't think i will watch the new version i did like the 70,s version the 2004 one not so much even though Rutger hauer was great as Barlow i also read the book
Please do a review of the tom Hooper version
The dog being killed is a major part of the Lore, also the orginal has old school actors and facial expressions and body language to match. James Mason is an example of this, appearing possesed at times and preocupied. I bet they miss these points
Exactly if you haven’t seen the original which the 2024 version first then watch the original Toby Hooper 1979 version.
Anything with Bill Camp in it, I'll watch.
I’m always down for another review and I’d like to hear your thoughts on the original. I didn’t think this movie was bad at all, definitely fun and entertaining regardless of the brand name
I watched the latest one last night. I really.enjoyed it. It was a fun horror movie to watch during Halloween Month. I did notice the little boy from The Boys looked younger in this than he currently is. I thought all of the characters added something to this movie.
* Spoiler Alert *
The mom that got swooned by them and was protecting the vamps at the end , first, how many shells did she have in that damn gun ?!.! Lol. Secondly, I'd have torn her butt up ! Man she was making me mad watching her, lol.
Completely agree!
Loved the og and loved this. This is how to make a remake!
I agree. It’s not a complete ripoff.
I would love to see this cast in a better Salem's Lot movie.
I did the same thing and spent the weekend watching the remake and the original and it may just be recency bias but i enjoyed the remake a lot more than the original.
Both are good in their own ways, but the original felt like it drags in the middle half and it's more about the town than vampires (which is still great, but doesn't necessarily need the 3 hours to do that)
The remake is more rewatchable, it has fun elements that sacrifices character writing for cool vampire stuff, but it has just enough heart to make me care about the characters I'm watching.
I think if you want a better understanding of the story, the original does just that while the remake has just enough for new viewers to at least get an idea of what the story is.
The og is master class status to me.
@DrumDums I really enjoyed this movie too, I still haven’t seen the original, but may check it out this spooky season just to see the differences but, I have a feeling this will be my preferred version.
Glad you loved the original!! Personal favorite of mine since I was a kid. I'm about your age. Also not sure you know. Salem's Lot 79 was a made for tv movie. Then released in theaters in a shorter version.
I knew it was a tv series. Didn’t know they released a shorter version in theaters.
@@DrumdumsOfficial correction. Over seas it was released in theaters, I thought her too but no
yeah, i didn't like new salem's lot, it has no air to breathe, feels like i watched re-cap of the story
best jerusalem's lot on the screen is from 'chapelwaite' tv series, based on king's 'jerusalem's lot' short story, 10 episodes, adrien brody is in the lead, no one watched it, when it was out, even steven king dedicated channels here on youtube
same themes - vampires, odd town, but it's a period piece and it feels lovecraftian, it is rendition of other novel of bram stoker 'the lair of the white worm'
I’ll probably check this new version out, but I’ll keep my expectations low. However, the original is SO good! It may have been my introduction to horror, as I remember as a youngster sneaking out of bed and watching some of it from behind the couch, unbeknownst to my parents. The first “child vampire scraping at the window” scene both terrified me and intrigued me at the same time. I was a horror fan ever since!
If I saw the og as a kid, it would have wrecked me haha.
I would love to see you review the origianl. It's one of the scariest things I have ever seen and by far the most terrifying vampires ever put to film
I agree!
Please do the original
The 2004 version was so bad it never even got a blu ray release. The 1979 one is so good, a masterpiece. Even the cut down 2 hour movie version of Hooper's original even rushed to get to the point is better than this 2024 soap opera style acting cgi attempt.
If the full 3 hour version of Dauberman's ever comes out I'd deffiniteby watch it.
At least Barlow speaks lol
AND I HATE how the characters refer to Salem's Lot as "The Lot." It's like they tried to make this more hip even though it's supposed to take place in the 70s.
Such weak storytelling! No sense of dread! This could have been made for TV if they dropped the F bombs!!
Review the original please
The original Salem's Lot is classic & is far superior than the remake, but I still had a good time with it nonetheless.
how can it be HBO MAX and be so generically inoffensive ?
This version is the equivalent of cinematic excrement. They should be ashamed and embarrassed 😊
Please review the original
I love your reviews for new movies and classics! ❤

I thought he was Ok. Nothing special.
@@rightchordleadership I'm saying as a whole.
I was afraid of this being bad after all the delays it had due to rewrites that was the first sign of its terrible last 10 minutes I admit wasn't bad but I knew it was a doomed film
Loved the remake. I'm a HUGE Alfre Woodard fan,who you didn't even mention, shame on you. 🤔
And I'm an Even bigger fan of the original. So good.
I just had two coworkers tell me they hadn't seen the original,so I made em Promise they would see it last week. And they both did & complained to me how scary it was. But they Both Loved it & the remake. 😂😂😂
