  • Not a tutorial, just some tips I use that may help you out. I was painting the tank commanders for the new Heng Long tanks I got and thought it would be a cool thing to show the regular way most folks paint and then to use thinned down paint over a highlighted surface. I wish I had done some actual painting but it is so much start and stop with it I didn’t even think about it. Maybe next time!

    Addam, you have done it again. It's a wonderful explanation on painting figures. I wouldn't have thought to prime them first before painting. The dry brush technique to bring out the details. Thanks again for another lesson, Sir. Thank you. 👍👍👍👍👍

      Thanks Al! I spent the first year of the pandemic 3d printing figures and learning how to paint them. It has been a while and I am a bit out of practice but I thought folks might pick up a few tips I have learned along the way. Plus maybe it will spark someone to try a new way of doing things!

    WOW WOW WOW! Ladies and gents we are in front of an event!! You are a very skilled soldiers artist and I can say this with a certain confidence. In fact in my former model shop, between cars, boats and so on, there was a leading soldiers painters club (they also won prizes at that world exhibition in UK which has the name of the town and now due to age I don't remember) so I can say what is a good paint and what not. Perhaps you used acrylic and not oil, it is faster but also more mat. Now I understand your skill in car body realistic paint. BRAVO!!! Ciao, Nanni

      I learned all this from painting gaming figures. I was really into it a couple years ago! Never close to the expert levels but I was having fun with it! Yes I prefer the acrylics as the dry so very fast. You have more control over oils but it takes forever to complete a figure! I thought folks may get a few tips and get them to try a way of painting!

      Thanks, it is some of the basic tips I learned from painting gaming figures. I have never played any of the games but I got into painting the figures at the beginning of the whole pandemic and needed something to occupy myself and I could resin print them at home and paint them as much as I wanted! I got burned out on it and stopped when I got back into RC. I still pick one up from time to time but have gotten rusty with the fine details. I have some pics on my Instagram page (linked in the description of the video) if you want to see some of them.

    Nice job with the figures! I used to put a strong magnet in the figures bottom and then just glue a standard size razor blade cutter knife blade down in the bottom of the drivers spot, or any thin piece of metal just cut it to size to fit in and then the driver sticks right in.

    Hi there Addam, I hope that commander had clean hands 😂😂 a great explanation of how to paint figures, using different techniques. Thinning where necessary and ensuring not too much paint is on the figure, for each pass. The details really show. Excellent work my friend. Best wishes 😊😉

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      Thanks John! Thinning the acrylic paints is the easiest way to build up colors and tones and make it look much more natural. It all depends on the effects you're going for as to how thin to make it. It is always easier to paint more layers than it is to reverse a thick one!

    Great Job Addam!!!! My paint work always comes out looking like a 1st grader did it. Did you just brush or air brush? I seen Vallejo paints on a RUclipsrs airbrush ch. I follow, Bar****Rex. However, I never used them cause most of my RC's use lexan bodies. What's your airbrush of choice or favorite airbrush? I like watching and learning how people paint, what they use, what they recommend, how they do it, see their technique and so on.. Not that I could reproduce their results. Thanks for sharing this one man, Someday I'll try it myself. GFJ Dude!!!!!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      Mine used to be and sometimes still is. On most of the Driver figures I use the Tamiya paints and just do them as anyone else would. For these since they are so prominent and had a lot of potential I went for a bit more detail! I used brushes on them and they are just some cheap ones from amazon, I think they were like $8 for a full set of 12 different sizes. I use the airbrush very little, just for weathering projects and some body painting. Mostly for bodies I use the Tamiya paints as they work well and hold up very well. They are expensive but it works. I picked up these tips and tricks from learning how to paint gaming miniatures. I needed something to do at the beginning of the whole pandemic thing and I could print the figures from home and it took up a lot of extra time we all found ourselves with! Try it out one day, get a dollar store action figure and spray paint it black and then dry brush some white paint on and start painting really thin, watered down coats of acrylic paints one. Don't worry about the colors and mistakes, just use it to learn how the thickness and thinness of the paints work. You can use craft paints to test with, usually you can find them in the dollar stores too. A cheap test subject!!

I may try and make a paint video of re-doing the other commander as I am going to strip the plain looking one back down and give it another go to make it look more like the other one. Using the thinned paints make a world of difference when trying to do fine painting like this.
