  • A CNN contributor received an advance pat-down from the TSA. It brought her to tears. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Aida Rodriguez, and Amberia Allen, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. tytnetwork.com/go
"Firebrand CNN political commentator Angela Rye was subjected to a humiliating body search while trying to board a plane to New York City on Wednesday night.
She posted the video to Twitter and alleged that the TSA employee who searched her twice touched her inappropriately.
Rye said she was singled out for a random search and that she had not set off any metal detector alarms. The TSA called a police officer when Rye asked why she was being singled out. Officials told her she could cooperate or be escorted from the airport by police.
Rye agreed, finally, to submit to the search, which covered every inch of her body, including an uncomfortable-to-watch probing of her genital area.
By the end of the search, Rye was shedding humiliated tears."*

Oh ok they listen to us so well that should be easy why didn't we think of that. Search #NoDAPL and see how much our government hears our crys for change. Google medical Marijuana and see how well our Federal government listens. We wish it was that easy see our government doesn't listen to you unless you are the one with money. And lots of it.

You could give me all the power you want, I would not want to use it in that way. People who do that are not good people. I do not think that is what "being human" naturally leads to. I know plenty of people who do not abuse their power. Usually, security at check points only peer into my bags. I have had police only peer into my car. I have had a police officer apologise for having to come into my home on receiving a false report of child endangerment. I had to assure him that I was happy he had followed up so promptly because he could have been saving a child's life.
We do have officers who get off on power but it is not NORMAL human behaviour.
But I do not live in the USA.

their "job" consists of doing something that has been proven to be completely useless. A study by the Department of Homeland Security was able to get banned items past the TSA in 67 out of 70 tests. So all they really do is harass people and create a false sense of security for those who aren't harrassed, all while having incredibly obvious racial biases and costing the tax payer almost $8 billion annually.
I don't care that they're "doing their job", my point is that their job shouldn't exist in its current form.

    • @GoddessFourWinds
      @GoddessFourWinds 7 лет назад +26

Kathy There is no reason anyone should be "humbling" or "humiliating" anyone. People are just travelers. They aren't criminals. Innocent until proven guilty, remember? We had one major incident. AN EXTREMELY FUCKED UP DAY. And we threw all of our freedoms out the window in a bill that Congress didn't even have time to read. The TSA is a part of that. And people just go, "Oh, well. If it helps." We were flying for DECADES without the crap we go through now. MILLIONS of flights. And it's not just the pat downs.
      Caps for emphasis.

You agree to TSA screening when you use an airport. You don't have to use an airport to travel domestically.
Also, when you are screened then picked for additional search, they ask you if you would rather go to a private room for the pat down. I know this for a fact.
It's only a "violation" if you choose to see it that way. She was not "singled out", they do that hundreds of times a day.
But to answer your question, my mother/sister/father/brother, would not have been brought to tears because of a over the clothes pat down. Again, if you are brought to tears and break down because of a security checkpoint pat down, you're privileged AF.

Is the airport a sufficiently sterilized place to put hands on someone's genitals. Knowing that with the same hand gloves, hundreds of people's body passing the border have been touched. Therefore the chance of infection and transmission of dangerous diseases is 100%. How on hell a border police gets the right to touch your intimate body area. It is an airport not a gynecological hospital. If you eager to touch or control genitals, you better install the hospital at the airport's border and have the specialized gynecologist to do that in this way people's health will not be put at risk.
But justifying inappropriate behavior of yours by saying ''This is just a standard check and you either let me touch your vagina or I'll arrest you'' it is nothing else but a CRIMINAL ACT and abuse of authority to threaten someone.
We should raise our voice to keep those hands from our body. Thank you Rye for letting us know how police sexual assault is protected by law.

TSA needs to let a computer make the determination for a truly RANDOM pat down. Leaving it to the TSA agent's discretion means it's not random. If it were truly random, the TSA agent would not have said, "It might be the shoes and the dress" during the video. That kind of response warrants an investigation of the agent who made the determination that Angela Rye *'needed'* to be patted down. Is the agent a pervert, a racist, a Republican out to punish Democratic journalists or just an asshole?

Why is she crying? The TSA woman didn't do anything wrong to her. The woman being checked was being extremely rude and had a terrible attitude about it all.
The TSA agent did nothing wrong. What a cry-baby.
Now, having said that: I am all for having way better screenings, and I don't think the pat-down does anything. If you want to talk about removing it--great. But... that woman had no reason to cry or to be that antagonistic of a random pat down.

I already feel humiliation & fear from all I've survived, why must I add to it in front of the public eye due to someone in TSA not being trained to properly deal with survivors - assaulting me once again, touching me in places I never gave permission, trying to make me feel like less than human because of the way that they chose to profile me rather than protect me.

And if you were attacked in a way in the past that makes the search more traumatizing for you, that is the fault of the person who attacked you. It is not the fault of the agent any more than you are the author of your own emotions. I'm not blaming you for having those feelings; you shouldn't blame the againts for searching you.

"women don't want special treatment they want equality"
I missed the part where anyone said it's more acceptable for men to be touched by strangers.
"when people bring in drugs and and that drug ends up for children mothers are like what is the police doing.WTF spread your legs B*tch doing this for your own safety"
Did you bother reading my opening post? This stuff almost never works to uncover contraband.

"this shit is the same with a girl that has been puled over and starting throwing tantrum on the police officer like shes a free citizen doesnent have to obey the law.OMG"

    • @salem9686
      @salem9686 7 лет назад +1

if you want to live in a sosciety with other people you need to obey something that is caled laws, because of your self and others. the so called free inhabitent is the stupidest excuse to get your own way, and by that risk harming others, women have been know to carry drugs and guns in there vaginas.you don't get the right to just walk free with out any checking. That leads to Anarhy.
I didn't see any man going against this, because they understand (why, unless they are hiding something)there is one incident with a man, he was forced to move on to another seat because the childrens family didn't want a stranger man siting next to there children, but when a man doesn't want to sit next to a woman in a plane, women winy how dare they.
Hmm its the same as touch a man, hmm makes no sence, if a man touches a woman that is sexual asolt, if a woman touches a man the cort doesn't give a damn, women killed children and didn't go to prison, the cort let them loos because, poor women prison is isolation for women.Has happend many times it was on the news.
yeah it doesn't work because of the new leftist laws, the people garding are not alowed to check properly on them, I have watched a tv show where neutral people were asked to carry drugs over in the plane one country to the next. Some work some don't.
Now im i just to trust a comment of a troll or a whole Tv show that talks about how people end up in prison because of greed and money.
"if you don't like it don't leave the country"
Or advocate to have this procedure stop. Which is what she's doing.
this makes 0 sence, if they advocate to stop this kind search. And if they do stop it people will bring drugs in the country openly. WTF.AND WHAT IS THE ALTERNITIVE, TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE DON'T BRING IN DRUGS???ADVOCATE TO STOP THIS BECAUSE.Lets hug the criminals like Angela wants with migrants with guns.

Dr. Music: Our culture goes directly against theirs. They hate our way of life essentially. They believe that women should be controlled, not allowed to show skin, etc. They believe that all "infidels" (those they view as inferior to them) should be killed. They target the U.S. and Europe specifically because those are areas leading the charge against them.

I'm trying to understand how this was humiliating. Is it because she's wearing a dress? Or just because she was randomly selected? I very rarely fly and have been selected for a body search. A couple of times, something popped up on the full body scanner and they had to pat me down. It was just my clothing, but still. They did exactly the same thing. It was not humiliating. My husband travels all the time and even he's been selected for the pat down. The TSA agent explained what she was going to do before she did it.

Some people cry when they miss their flights, does that mean the airline humiliated them as well? There was nothing over the top or out of bounds about that search. Funny how she didn't cry until the very end, and it was almost as if she realized nothing bad had actually happened to her, but she still had to sell her narrative to the people viewing the recording.

Snowflakery is out of control. Everyone who is randomly picked is searched the same way. A TSA agent probably pats down dozens of people every day, five days a week. They're not looking to power trip on you. Cooperate and you will be #68 of the day and done in 2 minutes. There's no crying in the TSA line.
BTW, no one cares how you look getting patted down. Everyone is busy being scanned him/herself, putting on shoes and belts and getting the heck away from that line. It's called life post 9/11. Never forget.

Even though I can't stand Angela Rye or TYT..I have to agree with them here. I've been opposed to this whole TSA thing from the start. If they're going to spend all this money hiring many 10s-100s of thousands of TSA employees, maybe we should just put more air marshals on planes. And vastly increase the security and safeguards on the plane itself to make it virtually impossible to get to the cockpit and hijack. I'm sure there are much better ideas that wouldn't invade the privacy and violate so many innocent Americans, like the TSA does on a daily basis.
Ben Franklin was right when he said, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." If this country becomes a full-blown security and surveillance state, then in my view, the terrorists will have succeeded in destroying the country that we love.

agreed that the TSA is useless and needs to be disbanded, however, being a journalist nor flying all the time makes you exempt from a random search. While being a corrections officer and also a gate guard at a military instillation, the term random search means mostly that you are to pull over every ? person. (? = whatever number is deemed necessary) for instance we have to pull in every 10th car for random search at the front gate. no one likes to be the 10th car but it is not the fault of the officer that you happen to be #10. DEAL WITH IT OR DON'T TRAVEL.

    • @jftt42
      @jftt42 7 лет назад +3

scott davidson i'm not against the search itself, but rather the intrusive way they conduct it with, which seems more vindictive than it is helpful or practical. at times you wonder what it is they're expecting to find in the tight space between someone's legs that a metal detector can't find. at least in her case they tried their best not to offend her and were making small talk, an average person would be treated much rougher and if they dare protest they'd be kicked off their flight

Submitting to a field sobriety test because you're the 10th car in the line is not the same thing as having your body searched. Stop falsely equivocating. Searches can be done in ways that are not so invasive and humiliating. This is an absurd standard to set for trying to ensure airplane safety.

Surely there can be a greater use of surveillance technology that would further minimize the need for physical contact. An airport security check is not a circumstance where a person's dignity or sense of personal affront should come into question. Granted, you cannot please everybody, but I feel confident that TSA can do better than this.

Wel a private room is a dubble edged sword.
doing it in public meand the agents know they are watched and might keep them focused on not crosing over a line in public, but might be huliliating to the person being searched.
the private room might be less huliliating to the person being searched, but then there are no sitnesses to what happens.

I feel for Angela, but unfortunately this has become a part of American Life. What I don't understand is if she had TSA Pre Check why was she randomly chosen? She should have been on a different line than the other passengers. I have one time or two had the TSA Pre Check on my boarding Pass and I didn't even have to take off my shoes. I just put my stuff on the conveyor belt and went through the metal detector. Done. I am not so sure she was randomly chosen.

What most seem to miss is that a certain portion of the population finds rules and regulations for the "'common people" okay and necessary ..... until it happens to them. Remember a few years backwhen this South America decided to check Senators & Diplomats at their airport, well it took less than a working week to get that turned over, because that was deemed inappropriate. Whereas the same people advocating for harsh regulations for safety reasons should lead by example

I can almost understand and tolerate the checks but sometimes the attitude of the officers make the difference. I remember being screamed at when i visited Statue of Liberty, the female officer was so nasty that i swore never to return to this attraction ever again.
On top of that, I used a TSA suitcase at the airport but instead of using a TSA key to open my suitcase, TSA just ripped my suitcase lock off and told me they had the right to do so.

I have a fear of flights among other fears involving going on flight, so take this for what you might if you read this. I would never go on another fight, ever. I think that we should move on to other means of transportation anyways. It is worth it to boycott airlines. This has nothing to do with public safety. It has to do with airlines; bottom line. Otherwise, why wouldn't we have similar types of invasion of privacy with other types of public transportation (trains, buses, subways, ships.) It's because the planes cost a lot of money, and they don't want people destroying them. TSA is paid for with tax payer money, so it is our tax dollars paying for "security" in private enterprises. We will never get better types of transportation if people keep flying around in these antiquated machines. If you cannot envision faster, safer, and more reliable forms of public transportation, then you aren't trying hard enough.

There are plenty of crimes that happen in the U.S. all the time that from non-colored people could be classified as terrorism, but the media and justice system fail to call it for what it is because of bias. It's also because it is a part of their culture and maybe they don't see it for what it is, if you want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, there are no terrorist groups that operate in the U.S. that are Islamic or Muslim. Finally, the use of regressive is a misnomer.
